While combing through my social media newsfeed, a news popped up in my sight, Pakistani nationals figning petition proposing Nobel Peace Prize for their PM Imran Khan. I was flabbergasted! Later, the news became the butt of all jokes because their plea was far from being realistic in view of Pakistan becoming the terrorist safe haven. Meanwhile, amid the tension between India and Pakistan regarding Pulwama, we have extended mental assault to the Indian Muslims through our public posts knowingly or unknowingly. Many a times, I have seen my Muslim friends remain tigh-lipped over the issue and seeking escape routes when the discussions were on a roll. May be they are in a state of disquietude. We should admit, when we talk about Pakistan, we think about Indian muslims in our subconscious.

After the soaring tension between Pakistan and India, the governments are reflecting upon their terms of engagement in the changed scenario. In this situation, India is evading its pride of being a country of brotherhood by secluding the Muslims and calling them names.

The baggage of historical misconducts continue to hound:

“Go to Pakistan” or “You are a Pakistani”, these are the jibes that are doing rounds to perpetuate the age-old perceived enmity with the Indian Muslims. The further abuses like “Babur ki aulad”, the reminder of the past atrocities by ‘invaders’, that are hurled at the Indian Muslims in the wake of this situation, are below the belt and toxic in the same vein. There is a clear demarcation in the social system to be seen now, the ‘self’ and the ‘other’. The Indian Muslims have to shed at least two imposed layers of ‘Otherness’ to appear Indian.

The non-Muslim right wing discourse perennially forgets that the majority of Deobandi Ulema has opposed partition while Maulana Shabbir Ahmad Usmani chose to stand apart with his ideologies.

In a horrific act, a Kashmiri vendor in Lucknow was beaten to half-death which attracted a wave of protest in social media. What’s even more sad that the videos went viral. It was really gut-wrenching to look at the video where the man was screaming for his life. What happened to him was illegal and immoral but can people continue to do this with impunity? This is the question that looms over the horizon. In argument, the Indian Muslims, after the occurrence of partition, had to pay a hefty price of Pakistan’s existence. This is, presumably is the fallout of colonial ‘divide’ and ‘rule’ policy and the British have exploited the faultlines because communalism in this subcontinent beget communalism.

Twelve Mirage 2000 jets from Indian side ran amok in Balakot, Pakistan and blew away Jaish-e-Muhammed terror launchpads at around 3:30 am early on 26^th February, 2019. It was a surprise airstrike to avenge the recent terror attack on the Indian military vehicle in Pulwama district of Kashmir that reverberated the valley.

Revenge was paramount when a misdemeanour from Pakistan shook the entire nation. The Modi government is being hailed for being such fearsome and prompt in their action. The fighter jets successfully destroyed terrorist camps in Balakot in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Muzzaffarabad, Chakothi.

Indian Foreign Secretary Vijay Gokhale revealed that Indian Airforce crossed the line of control based on the information furnished by Indian Intelligence. He claimed that the biggest terror launch camp of Jaish-e-Muhammed was reduced to ashes by the airstrike.

According to the credible sources, Jaish-e-Muhammed was gearing up to conduct suicide attacks in others corners of the nation. The Fidayen terrorists were undergoing training to execute the attacks. This prompted the Indian Army to sit up in alarm and bring them to task as soon as possible. Indian Airforce targeted the biggest terror camp of Jaish-e-Muhammed in the attack and they successfully destroyed it. Further, the claims are made from the Indian side that in the attack, the extremists, trainers, the senior commanders and those undergoing training in the camps were killed. Remarkably, the head of the camp, Maulana Yousuf Azhar aka Ustad Gaudi who is a kin to Jaish-e-Muhammed chief Masood Azhar was killed in the attack too.

The sources claimed that no civilians have been killed in the attack as Indian Airforce approached cautiously. The camp was located in the deep forest bracketed by mountains, far from the civilian habitats. Jaish-e-Muhammed, the terror outfit in Pakistan orchestrated many attacks in India last year  under the guidance of chief Masood Azhar which includes the attacks in Indian Parliament and Pathankot. The  sources revealed that the makeshift  terrorist training camps are operative in the Pak occupied Kashmir. India has unalterable evidence about the existence of these camps even though Pakistan refutes the claims brazenly. However, India claims that this is impossible for the Pakistani government not have knowledge about them when thousands of terrorists are being trained in these camps everyday.

Pakistan was given the taste of their own medicine with this surprise airstrike by India which eliminated large number of terrorists. The aircraft dropped 1,000 kg laser guided bombs on terror training camps, completely annihilating them.

Recently Pulwama stood witness to the deadliest attack on Indian army by Pakistani terrorists which killed at least 42 CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) personnel. An army vehicle carrying the Jawans was blown away by a massive detonation after an explosives-laden Scorpio car rammed into it. Forthwith after the attack, humongous protests from across the world poured in and the mightiest nations stood with India in solidarity. Pakistan was held accountable for the terror attack as it was believed to provide ‘safe haven’ for the terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed whose mastermind Masoor Azhar is an U.N designated terrorist.

In the wake of this spiteful attack, the whole world admonished Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan for remaining tight-lipped. When Indians are baying for revenge, Imran Khan’s outright denial on Pakistan’s role in the attack stirred up a debate. In a show of major brinkmanship, Pakistan PM Imran Khan said on February 19 that it would retaliate if India calls for a war. Ulta chor kotwal ko date!

He paraded us with 6 brazen and hilarious lies in just 5 minutes and we are in complete awe for his pokerfaced nonchalance. In a televised address, he gave a speech replete with lies where he was seen taunting, challenging and threatening Modi in return. What really amused us was that he seemed remotely repentant while ruling out an unequivocal truth!

Imran Khan added that Pakistan will take actions against the preparators if India shares actionable proof about the misdemeanour. According to Khan, “Pakistan offers full support for any investigation in Pulwama. I guarantee action on this”. He said this in an address to the nation on Radio Pakistan. Sorry sir, we are not buying your lies any more!

Imran Khan further added, “It is in our interest that nobody from our soil spreads violence. I want to tell Indian government that we will take action if evidence is found against anyone from Pakistan,” doesn’t his words ring hollow? We are at our wit’s end after successive attacks on Pathankot, Uri and now Pulwama in the same fashion.

Imran Khan warned any adventurism at India’s end to threaten the sovreignty of Pakistan will attract certain retaliation. He shared that he received calls from India threatening to attack Pakistan. He was quoted as saying, “”I know it’s a poll season in India. If India will attack us we will surely retaliate. It is easy to start a war but difficult to end. The issue should be solved through dialogue,”

He said that India is blaming Pakistan without any concrete evidence at hand and that Pakistan has nothing to gain from this attack. Pakistan is moving towards peace and stability. He further claimed that he has installed the anti-terrorism ideals in the minds of new Pakistan that he has built.

An all party meet is scheduled to be held in the Parliament today aimed at discussing India’s next course of action on the Pulwama attack on 14^th february that killed at least 40 CRPF jawans. The whole nation is baying for revenge after the terrorist outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed owned up to the heinous transgression.

The mortal remains of the CRPF jawans were brought back to Delhi on February 15 where PM Modi laid wreaths and like a clockwork, that video started circulating in the social media. Such is the slush of Indian milennial. But the hovering question is, will the flame be alive? Will Modi Ji give the security forces free rein to respond to the Military attack?

In one of such random Facebook videos, we saw a gutted father of a martyred soldier speaking about taking an eye for an eye. When a conscientious father vows to turn into  a suicide bomber himself to avenge his young son’s death, it shows how porous is our system that could not save those lives!

It is really startling to see how Pakistan is providing ‘Safe haven’ to those guilty wil impunity. The ponderosity of the incident created ripples in the world media. Many nations have openly condemned this attack. The US too, saw red from this atrocious attack and asked Pakistan to withdraw the immunity that it has given to the designated terrorsist like Masood Azhar. Now, we are keeping a weather eye on the international allies of Pakistan, predominantly China,  for their communiqué. Chinese councillor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi extended their word of condemnation of the attack to External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj. They said that China resolutely opposes and strongly condemns all forms of terrorism. Crocodile’s tears? May be yes because China didn’t budge from its position on the terror listing of Jaish-e-Mohammed Chief Maulana Masood Azhar. Azhar was released by the AB Vajpayee government in December 1999, along with Moushtaq Ahmad Zargar and Omar Sheikh in exchange of the retrieval of the passengers in the hijacked Indian Airlines flight IC-814.

We are, as a nation now feeling irrepressible hunger for revenge and it is a dish best served cold. Our moment will come like it came after the URI attack when a surgical strike that involved 4 hours and 38 kills in the Pak occupied Kashmir. We are again awaiting the judgement day with bated breath.

There is a mountainous pressure of expectation that rides on the right-wing Bhartiya Janta Party at this moment. The 2016 attack was limited in time and choice of targets which allowed Pakistan to rule out its occurrence. Indian government has to consider that excessive military mobilisation against Pakistan can lead to the danger of uncontrolled retaliation too. India has inconvertible evidence about the how the military group Lashkar-e-Taiba (Let) unquestioningly follows the politically dominant Pakistan army’s orders  and attacks the targets on their behalf.

They have again claimed their presence by carrying out a high-visibility attack on the Indian military in the same South Kashmir pocket where Indian security forces have killed almost 300 Kashmir militants. They have staged this attack after penetrating several layers of security which is a significant intelligence disaster on India’s side.

  India has now removed Pakistan’s Most Favoured Nation’s Trade benefits.  What’s next? are India and Pakistan now at the brink of war?Will India opt for diplomatic isolation?

US National Security adviser John Bolton called his Indian counterpart Ajith Doval to show solidarity. He said that US stands with India as it confronts terrorism so India is definitely on a secure footing.

Tweeter is a weird circus where a lot of mud-slinging happens, even the actor of Renuka Sahni’s stature wasn’t spared from this too. A few days ago, she was trolled for apparently voicing her opinion against Hindu fundamentalism which attracted ire from the parts of the society and they even stooped to the level of slut-shaming her. Sonu Nigam too had to undergo this bombardment of trolls when he apparently spoken against Azan bending the government rules of decibels in the wee hours of the morning.

Some Islamist fundamentals have issued Fatwa against him and they asked people to shave his head which will bring him some shame. Unfazed, Sonu himself sent for his friend and hairstylist Hakim Alim and shaved his head only to make a public appearance and announce that he is not bothered by what the Maulvis had to say and he is firmly holding his ground.

Terrorism and Corruption – Ever had a thought, if being Indian makes you celebrate the winning of nation’s cricket team or such, also makes you ashamed when comes corruption or terrorism.

If by corruption you think of a big scam like that of coal, 2G-3G or Common Wealth Games’ then your definition is missing some minute yet major things.

From the time you cry first, to the time when people gives you farewell by shedding tears, you knowing or unknowing hands to corruption. Be it bribing the traffic police, when you are not wearing helmet of seat belts, travelling without tickets, not paying taxes, unethical use of Government aids and what not, you do one or many. To bring them to your notice, all these are corruption.

Our freedom fighters fought audaciously to make sure the coming generation breath in the air of free and Independent India. But what we see terrorism today is young, brain-washed people, nonchalantly causing harm to humanity. And Ironically, before they realise this, they are dead. They should be aware about the things happening, not in the world but atleast in their surroundings. They should know the basic difference between right and wrong, good and vicious, legal and illegal. When they will know this, along with the consequences of having done something wrong and being caught, they would fear doing crime as well. Moral education is something that won’t add good grades to your marksheet, helps you to lead a good grade life.

Education is a big tool to fight against almost all the social evils prevailing in the society including Terrorism and Corruption.

Despite of so many educational programs and Government aids the roots of corruption has not only blocked access to free education but lead to child labour and illegal trafficking. It is one of the root cause of making the gap between rich and poor wider and favours the prior and suppressing the later. What allure them is not only the money but fame as well. But what is the difference between them and the uneducated, brain-washed terrorists, who too is bribed with a thought that could never be accomplished, and is a big lie.

Can India ever get rid of Terrorism and Corruption, is still a big question.

To eradicate one, we all must come together and fight against both. What nurtures corruption indubitably aids terrorism. Keeping this in mind, if we work on implementing fair means of working, doing our jobs sincerely, rather than chasing increments and promotions and practicing illegal and wrong means to achieve them. Elections 2019 – The campaign for the elections 2019 has already begun, technically it had begun in 2014 as soon as the major party BJP was elected. Promises are being made, Rallies are taking place.

One question that haunts every mind is who would win it this time?

The quest for the Chair of the Prime Minister with its added responsibilities started off earlier this year. Major parties BJP and Congress are the lead in the race, but that doesn’t mean it’s a no chance for the smaller parties. Parties like Samjawadi Party and BSP are also in the race for the leading party.

The false promises and bad conditioned roads have led to the loss of trust in the leading party by the citizens. But at the same time the belief in the opposition is also on an all time low, so this is the best time for the smaller parties to take a chance and plunge right in.

After the Karnataka elections it is easier to see that the position is faltering. As the current Prime Minister NarendraModi tries to go over the top with his tours and convincing the public with the speeches, the opposition campaigns for the golden boy Rahul Gandhi for the position of the next Prime Minister.

Congress has started to look more appealing with its campaigns and all pre tested techniques of pleasing the public. But Modi Sarkar is difficult to be trodden down, with effective and hardworking ministers like SushmaSwaraj, SmritiIrani and Yogi the party is just achieving huge standards.

The equation falls when scams like Mallya, Choksi and Nirav Modi are revealed maligning the current government, pointing out at their inability to stop or punish such wrong doers.

The Campaigns in Bihar and Chhatisgarh are majorly taking a toll on the supporters for BJP. The shrinking numbers state that the party needs to put more efforts. As in the year 2014, the party needs to be highly creative with the political advertising.

The NaMo campaign had earned the current government followers from around the country in all age groups ranging from youngsters to the middle aged and the older generation.

The BJP and Shivsena alliance and other alliances are most needed at this time to create a stronger government. With the farmers in trouble and the dairy prices on a hike the government has a lot of troubles to face inside the borders. The ceasefire and major terrorist attacks daily on the borders is also weakening the faith in the government.

The biggest decision taken by the smaller parties is to pool together to destroy the juggernaut BJP. Mamata Banerjee has commented on the Uttar Pradesh elections saying it a big win. The Akhilesh Yadav party also eyes on a big win for Elections 2019.

The Congress party was never expected to win in the 2004 elections but it did, so if probability has to be taken in consideration, the Party has higher chances of bouncing back now than any time later.

Nathuram Godse – How can someone kill Mahatma Gandhi?

Nobody could believe this until it happened and the nation was left in shock because an epitome of non-violence was killed with gun shots. It was more shocking when it came out than an Indian named Nathuram Godse killed Mahatma Gandhi. Though the reports those days said that Nathuram Godse was mentally ill, it really isn’t the fact.

Instead, some people think that he was a little depressed from inside or someone else had him kill Gandhi for his own interests.

The Reason of Mahatma Gandhi’s death

Nathuram Godse started to feel that Mahatma Gandhi is partial towards Hindus and he thinks more about the Muslims. Maybe he started thinking this way because he used to work at an organization where people of different mindsets used to come and one of them might have been a Gandhi hater who brainwashed Godse. Nathuram used to feel that Gandhi ji is the reason behind partition of India and now he supports Muslims more than the Hindus. He started hating the policies by Mahatma Gandhi and his hatred wasn’t just towards him but also for Jawahar Lal Nehru.

He wasn’t afraid to die

Nathuram knew that right after he will kill Mahatma Gandhi, he will be killed too. That is the reason why he was prepared to die and kept himself ready for what’s coming next. He knew that he will either be hanged to death by law or the police will shoot him or the public might beat him to death.

He did all the investigation

Nathuram Godse used to come to the public events of Gandhi Ji to analyze the scenarios around him. Though he wasn’t a professional killer, he did the work in a very smart way. He already figured out about the kind of security around Gandhi Ji so that it was easy for him to breach the same.

He practiced going to jail in his house

To prepare himself for the challenges of prison, Nathuram Godse converted his house into a jail and lived there for one year. He kept all the windows and doors closed whole day, there was no water or air and very limited food.

He did all the paper work

When police investigated at Nathuram’s house, they found out that he did all the paper work to prepare himself for killing Mahatma Gandhi. Police even submitted those papers in court to prove that it was a long term planning.

He did his research on the weapon too

Nathuram Godse did his research very well on the weapon to use for killing Mahatma Gandhi because he was aware of the fact that there is only one chance. Not just that, he prepared on shooting as well because he knew it would take him a lot of courage.

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi, well known all over the world as Mahatma Gandhi or Bapu for the Indians, has a reputation of being one the greatest political yet spiritual leader in India.

He led the whole nation towards a successful fight for freedom against the British who had captured our land for 100 years.

While the whole nation was going violent for freedom, Gandhi taught them a different way. He believed that instead of guns and bullets, things can be achieved by words and good deeds.

He appealed people emotionally

He was known as the Saint Leader or Saint Politician, which is why his name was famous as Mahatma Gandhi. This happened because he used to connect with people on an emotional and spiritual level. He never talked about war or violence but love and unity. Gandhi ji made the whole country understand that the unity amongst the citizens and love towards each other is the only thing that can help them succeed. The way he connected with them emotionally, filled Indians with empathy towards each other.

It is sad that our great leader Mahatma Gandhi taught us so many things and yet we live in a world where all these qualities are scarce.

Relationship with politics – We all somehow interested in taking part in what is Modi going to say next in “Mann Ki Baat”.

Though some of us criticize it or some of us appreciate it. The fact is Bollywood and politics are two different trees with interconnected roots. People who want to know more how many cars their favourite actor has, the same way they want to know how many times Kejriwal get a slap or how Rahul Gandhi speech has incorrect spellings.

This is the curiosity media has hyped so much. When movies should be just an entertainment thing and politics a serious issue, both have become just gossip topic.

1 – Sleeping on job

Imagine a situation when you are sleeping at your job and is captured and seen by the whole world, and no action being taken. You are being paid your salary on time. I won’t forget to mention that this is the situation when your job is to make strategies for country’s development, take actions, resolve common man’s issues and do all they say during elections. This is something very serious and hilarious on the other hand. Nothing so shocking when these politicians act like Don’s because we give them that space. Space of doing anything and still get paid, position and power. Try doing that in your job and next thing you will be joining politics after being fired from your job.

2 – One Night Study Before Exam

Politicians come into the picture when there are elections and then, as we say – promises are made to be broken. Have fun until next elections come. What will happen if our job would be like that? Don’t work until next appraisals come. And, at the time of feedback, set new targets and make everyone fool. I wish!

3 – No age for retirement

Nobody can snatch your power and till you get older and older, it is easier for you to stay in your position. Because our kind of mentality lies in the thinking that young leaders are not mature enough and they can’t handle the responsibilities. As if, they are handling it very well from the last so many years. There are these air hostesses in the airlines who landed up in cabin crew job once they give birth to their child or sometimes get married. On the other hand, we have politicians who even get a serious mental issue and still be ready to lead our nation and we are completely fine with it. Hats off!

4 – Sometimes faking the hard work

You don’t even peak into the lives of poverty-stricken people and when it comes to voting time, everyone can be seen running towards their places. As if every politician has set their every day’s target. Also, it is a possibility that they have this arrangement done by their respective managers so nobody clashes with the other one. Okay, one day you go this poor man’s hut and the next day I will go. I have a plan of eating with them. Ok! I will help them clean their floors. Like really!

5 – Perks

Medical facilities, travel expenses, government quarter – more than half of my salary vanishes due to these expenses. Don’t forget the taxes included everywhere. What life for doing what? Having a good sense of humour shown by tweeting. What to say? Keep it up!

Relationship with politics – All the above points surely made my point valid.

I have this hate emotion when I saw something wrong is happening and hear some news. I love them when some strange dumb man keep people wrapped around in his pinky finger. That needs loads of guts and patience and good acting and many more things that I am not aware of.

Twitter is forever-frothing-in-the-mouth and this time the froth came from the beer comment from Manohar Parikkar. What happened actually was, during his address to a Youth Parliament Organized by the State Legislature Department he made a comment which was arguably insensitive. The context was to tackle the drug menace in the coastal state and Parikkar said he begun fearing now that girls too have started to drink beer.

“I have begun to fear now, because even girls have started drinking beer. The tolerance limit is being crossed,” he had been quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

Of course, Twitter needs a fodder for carrying on debates and this one spread like wildfire too where girls from different walks of life posted their pictures of drinking beer whilst tagging the former Defence minister.

Apparently, this comment was deemed insensitive by some people who sparked a backlash, of course, they had their reasons. Wouldn’t beer be a cause of concern if women didn’t indulge in it? Well, we leave it on his judgment.

As soon as the news broke in Twitter, reactions started pouring in with the #GirlsWhoDrinkBeer hashtag. Women were called upon to share their views on the said scenario and they went all vocal about it.

Such discriminating comment was least expected from the Goa Chief Minister even if it was in the wake of government trying to trim down drug peddling and over use of alcohol in the said state.

However, this is not the first time Manohar Parikkar made such an outrageous comment, in the first edition of the state youth parliament organised by Legislature Secratariat in Porvorim, he ‘enlightened’ us on the ‘vices’ of things ranging from Ganja (Marijuana) to porn.

He further referred to some of his personal experiences from his student years at IIT Mumbai. He elucidated how consuming drugs is not a ‘new’ phenomenon, and as in previous times, he only knew ‘a small group which was involved in Ganja’.

His comment was regressive, not to mention, so of course it didn’t go down well with many people, especially girls in the social media and they immediately put their foot down.

The hashtag started trending in Twitter immediately and ruled it through Saturday. The girls who shared their pictures of drinking beer, had to prove a point and not to mention, they had well succeeded.

International desert wars – Desert warfare occurs when two countries are combatant in deserts. Living in the desert itself is vagarious, imagine how gruelling it will be to survive the attacks from the enemies and lobbing counter-attacks on them will be like in a desert.

There is however a customized training program the soldiers from different countries have to go through to remain unflinching during the desert battles. Also, they are meticulously trained to endure the low humidity, extreme heat and cold, inhospitable atmosphere and a boundless wild-life.

There are myriad instances of International desert wars and here are some examples:

International desert wars –

1. Battle of Longewala, India and Pakistan:

It was an Indo-Pakistan war during 1971. Longewala was a desert was located Thar desert of Rajasthan State in India. The battle ran between 4-7 th December, 1971 under the leadership of E.N Ramadoss from Indian side and Brig. Gen. Tariq Mir.

2. Battle of Gazala:

It was fought during the Western Desert Campaign of the Second World War in the West of the port of Tobruk in Libya. The nations in loggerheads were Germany and Italy on one side while United Kingdom, British india, South Africa and Free French on the other. The battle ran from 26^th May-21^st June, 1942.

3. First Battle of El Alamein:

It ran between 1^st-27^th July, 1942 in the Western Desert Campaign of the Second World War. The battle was fought between Germany and Italy in one side and British Empire, British India, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa on the other. The location was Egypt.

4. Battle of Asal Uttar:

It is known as the largest Tank Battle fought between India and Pakistan during 1965. Pakistani Army intruded into the Indian territory attacking Khem Karan, 5 kms from the border, Indian troops gave a fitting reply. The location of the Battle was Tarn Taran Sahib, Punjab, India and it ran between 8-10 September, 1965.

5. Sand War:

It happened over a border conflict between Algeria and Morocco in October 1963. The battle ran from 25^th September to 20^th February. The location was The former French Algeria’s département of Saoura which is the present-day Tindouf and Béchar Provinces, Algeria. There was also Cuban and Egyptian Military intervention took place during the war which resulted in military settlement.

6. Six Day War:

It was Arab Israel war which ran from June 5^th-10^th. The participants were Israel and the neighbouring states like Egypt, Jordan and Syria. All hell broke loose when Israel invaded the Egyptian Sinai to open the Staits of Tiran which was restricted for Israeli shipping. Egyptian leader Gamal Abdel Nasser ordered evacuation of Sinai after some initial resistance and later it was conquered by Israel along with the Gaza trip, West Bank from Jordan and Golan Heights from Syria.

7. Libyan Civil War:

It is staunchly known as the Libyan Revolution was an armed conflict in the year 2011 between the pro Muammar Gadaffi forces and those who wanted to overthrow his government. It ran between 15^th February to 23^rd October 2011. The location was Libya and the result was collapse of Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, UN authorisation of NATO military intervention, sowing seed for another civil war in 2014.

8. Gulf War:

It is otherwise called the Desert Storm which ran from 2^nd August 1990-17^th January 1991. It was a war between 35 nations led by the United States of America against Iraq to condemn Iraq’s invasion and annexation of Kuwait. It lasted from 2-4^th August 1990 and the location was Iraq, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Israel and Persian Gulf. It resulted in Iraqi evacuation from Kuwait, restoring of Kuwati Monarchy, Saddam Hussain retaining power.

9. Iran-Iraq War:

Iran and Iraq were combatant forces from 22^nd September 1980-20^th August 1988. The war started when Iraq invaded Iran fearing the Iranian revolution after successive border disputes. Iraq also wanted to replace Iran as the dominant Persian Gulf state hence jumped the gun. The war resulted in Military settlement, Iraqi failure to capture Iranian territories, a sectarian divide in Iraq after Iranian force’s failure to overthrow Saddam Hussain. Both the sides claim victory of the war until now.

1. Adolf Hitler:

He was the chancellor of Germany and leader of Nazi party born in Austria. He was the advocate of Nazi propaganda who denounced international capitalism and communism. Hitler ruthlessly eliminated Jews from Germany to establish a new order and autocratic ideology called National Socialism, which was completely based on dictatorship. During his stint, invasion of Soviet Union occurred and during his stint only the Nazis caused mass genocide of at least 5.5 million Jews. They killed 19.3 million civilians and took war prisoners. It was the deadliest conflict of human history.

2. Khorloogiin Choibalsan:

He was the leader of Mongolian People’s republic and marshal of the Mongolian Armed Forces who assumed complete political power and was called the Stalin of Mongolia. Under his stint, in the Soviet-ordered purges in the late 1930s caused death of an estimated  30,000 to 35,000 Mongolians, most of whom were Buddhist clergy, intelligentsia and political dissidents.

3. Francisco Franco:

He was a Spanish military dictator under whose stint the Nationalist victory of Spanish Civil War occurred. He was commonly known as Francoist Spain who was a conservative and a monarchist. Franco always had the back of Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy with whom he won the war killing half a million people. He then went on to establish a military dictatorship and aimed at making a totalitarian state. He violently supressed opposition and dissent of any sort and transformed Spain into a Parliamentary democracy later in his political career.

4. Mao Zedong:

Commonly known as Chairman Mao, was a Chinese Communist revolutionary who founded People’s Republic of China. He always nurtured an anti-imperialist outlook and known as a military strategist, poet and visionary in the International forefront. In 1975, he introduced a campaign against landlords which was named The Great Leap Forward which quickly transformed China from an Agarian economy to an Industrial one. He promoted status of women, improved education and health care, which added to the life expectancy and China’s population grew from 550 million to 900 million. But his autocratic totalitarian regime was condemned by many.

6. Pol Pot:

He was a Cambodian Political revolutionary and the leader of Khmer Rouge. He operated the infamous Cambodian Genocide while leading the Communist Party of Kampuchea. He later became the Prime Minister of Democratic Kampuchea.

6. Augusto Pinochet:

He was a Chilean General and politician who maintained his position of Commander-in-chief, Chilean army. He was also a President of Government of Junta of Chile. He uprooted the Socialist Unidad Popular Government of President Salvador Allende thereby ending the civilian rule. He indiscriminately persecuted leftists and political critics executing 1200-3200 people and tortured tens and thousands among the living. There was also force disappearances recorded of about 3,095 people. He, for a long time served as the Supreme Head of military junta.

Sexist remarks – India does not really boast of a high number of politicians who are educated or are well-informed about the globalised cultural strata of modern India.

A lot of these politicians are still stuck in the Stone Age and suffer from a regressive mind-set that is totally out of touch with the sensibilities of the modern world.

1. Beauty contests must be banned – Rajnath Singh

Priyanka Chopra won the title of Miss World in the year 2000 when BJP leader Rajnath Singh was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, the state she was residing in. Instead of honouring her for bringing the title home, he decided to ban beauty contests in the state as he thought they are denigrating to Indian culture.

2. Boys commit mistakes – Mulayam Singh Yadav

Erstwhile chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and Samajwadi Party supremo remarked while siding with the people who commit a heinous crime like rape and said it is the mistake of women who get friendly with men and then when they fight and have differences, they accuse the men of committing rape.

3. Despite being a woman – Narendra Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated in a speech that ‘despite being a woman’ Sheikh Hasina, the Prime Minister of Bangladesh has zero tolerance towards terrorism. The fact that he brought gender into this drew flak and the hashtag #depsitebeingawoman trended on social media for several days.

4. Rapes happen because of increasing population – Mamata Banerjee

While the men take the cake when it comes to passing sexist remarks, women are not too far behind either. While commenting on the atrocitiescommitted on women ad an increase in the rate of crimes in the country, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said an increase in the number of city dwellers is one of the reasons behind rape.

5. If you expose women,they will be looted – Abu Azmi

Samajwadi Party leader has a history of making misogynist remarks. The politician drew ire when he said “Women are precious like gold. If you expose them, they’ll be looted. Women should not move around like men late night. They are weak, so they should think before they venture out.” Actress Ayesha Takia Azmi, who happens to be wife of Azmi’s son Farhan, took to social media to apologise for his remarks.

6. Western culture is to be blamed for what happened –G.Parameshwara

On New Year’s Eve in 2017, some women were molested on a public street in Bangalore while they were on their way back from a party. Home minister G. Parameshwara, instead of blaming the perpetrators, put the blame on women who, he thought, were dressed provocatively and the onslaught of western culture for this incident.

7. Wife loses her charm when she becomes old – Sriprakash Jaiswal

Former union coal minister Sriprakash Jaiswal sparked controversy while addressing the students in a women’s college when he said as men grow older they lose interest in their wives as she starts losing her charm and is no longer interesting enough.

Education is the key to a better society. More than anybody else, it seems our politicians could make some use of some good education to get rid of their medieval mind-set and start respecting women.

Indian government failed women – Which social media trend, social incident that hogged the most limelight in 2017 shook you more?

We will tell you, the outpour of confessions from women who has passed through sexual harassment and survived.

Their unadulterated truth about being subdued, being treated as sexual objects and being silenced obtrusively startled us. All of us, as women have suffered sexual assault and in 2017, we came to speak of it defiantly. Albeit, it is a major change that our society always vied for.  Now, what traumatizes us that all the confessions have fallen in deaf ear as Indian Government dramatically failed to secure the rights of women and have their back. Here are few instances how:

Indian government failed women –

The Lathi-charge in BHU:

In the heel of the incident when a female student was harassed by three bike-borne men on her way back to the hostel, sparked an uproar as the hostel super, instead of lodging a complaint with the police, accused her for coming late. It prompted thousands of female students to sit on Dharna protest and police executed a Lathi-charge to scatter them.

When the police, our protector turned assaulter:

Soon after RJ Malishka aired a sarcastic song on how BMC failed to maintain the Mumbai roads, the Shiv-sena ruled BMC issued a notice that she is breeding mosquitoes in her place. A youth wing of BMC even demanded to file a defamation case against RJ Malishka. Imagine how a party on power went bonkers over just a song?

Government inferred 12% GST on sanitary napkins:

As opposed to the demand of GST council advocated the implication of 12% charges on sanitary napkins, women burst in protest, especially the feminist organizations like SheSays that said the most village women use husk and ash during those days not being able to afford sanitary napkins but government turned deaf ear.

When Deepika Padukone was kept at gun-point:

Haryana BJP Chief Co-ordinator Suraj Pal Amu announced a bounty of a whopping 10 crores on Deepika Padukone and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s head followed by a furore over the movie Padmavati’s release citing its portrayal of Rani Padmini’s character was defamatory. After such outrageous statement, all the government did to pose as an onlooker.

Hadiya fought for her right to marry whomever she wanted:

Hadiya, an adult woman appeared in the Kerala High Court to confess that she wilfully accepted Islam and married a Muslim man but, as hilarious as it seems annulled the marriage thinking she was INCAPABLE of taking the decision. While the husband moved Supreme Court, the apex court upheld Kerala SC’s order and deployed the NIA to investigate. However, in a fresh ruling, she was GRANTED to resume college. Seriously? Granting someone to pursue her civil rights in a democratic country? Fundamental rights have gone for a toss, it seems.

These are the times when the Indian government failed women but being seasoned with it will only fuel drudgeries. We think.

Bhagwat, being the controversy’s favourite child, embarrassed Bharatiya Janata Party many a times with his aversion for other ethnicities, bias towards Hinduism and keeping the women’s right at the edge of regression, as media puts it. Whatever be the case, Bhagwat always hogged the limelight with his gift of the gab.

He was born on 11^th September 1950 in Chanderpur, India who acquired his BSc from Janata College in Chandrapur. Thereafter, he graduated in Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry from Government Veterinary College, Nagpur. Soon after he joined RSS, he was chosen as the Sarsanchalak (chief-executive) of the same organisation.

However, being in power entitles you to get away with saying something truly outrageous and here are the examples:
India belongs to Hindus:

“Hindustan is our nation, a rashtra of Hindus,”

He has an agenda:

“But we have to expand it by uniting all Hindus. Our country would become great if we succeed in uniting the Hindus. This unity will also be a bliss for the world. The world will awaken if the Hindus are united and awakened,”

He glorified the Sangh and how:

“Now, we are in a position to weigh and assess our power. It is not the favourable or unfavourable situation which helps us in pursuing our plans. It is our power which ensures our success. But it is also true that currently the circumstances are in our favour. This was not the situation before. In the past, nobody in the world used to care about the Sangh. Our workers had no means to take forward our ideology. But the situation has changed,”

In the context of Barack Obama warning the India against the growing religious intolerance:

Barack Obama, in his recent visit in New Delhi warned us against the religious intolerance that is sprouting among some people. Mohan Bhagwat defended India saying there was no caste system in the country and that’s how our civilization prospered until the constitution was written. He further perpetuated his statement saying that it is time to unite the Hindu community beyond the caste scenario.

His further views:

Mohan Bhagwat thinks that only one religion should reign supreme in India that is Hinduism. He shared this view in the recent past in Mumbai and Bhubaneshwar.

He hailed the SCs:

Calling them the religious warriors, RSS chief called to unite the Scheduled Castes in the realm of Sangh Parivar because RSS thinks they never got their due honour in India, the Valmikis, Sonkars and other Scheduled Castes.

RSS is not a political party:

Ruling out the talks of being aligned with a political party, Mohan Bhagwat said that it is not a front or any political party and asked people not to misinterpret it as one.

What he suggested the saints of Agaratala:

In a rally held in Agartala, he addressed the Hindu saints and said “India is a multi-religious and multicultural nation where every citizen has right to make his own choice and Sangh does not believe in interfering with the personal liberty. However, Sangh is committed to protecting the motherland.”

His statements, as BJP spokesperson said brought embarrassment to the party and sparked controversy in recent times but Bhagwat is firm on his stand that Sangha is more of an organisation that deals in physical and mental exercises and has no religious bias for that matter.

Chanakya death – Chanakya was held in high regard in ancient India for being the great philosopher, thinker and politician who influenced the field of economics and statecraft extensively. In fact, the highly cherished Indian books on Economics, namely Arthasashtra and Chanakya Neeti were attributed to him.

Chanakya lived between 275 BC to 350 BC and served King Chandragupta Maurya as a true confidante. He was staunchly called Kautilya which means shrewd because he had the acumen to make great kings by sheer brain. He pursued his education in Takshashila, the zenith educational institute back then and was born in high-caste, that is to say a Brahmin family.

While Chanakya was the person everyone turned to for life lessons, his own life was shrouded in mystery. The scholars however made several efforts to track down the real reason behind his death story which still seems partly unresolved. There are two assumptions that either he might have plotted his own murder or starved himself to death. Here under are the two probable reasons of Chanakya’s death as history depicts it:

Story behind Chanakya death –

1 – Chanakya continued to serve Chandragupta Maurya’s son Bindusara after his death and became very close to him. Driven by jealously, Bidusara’s minister Subandhu poisoned Bindusara’s mind against Chanakya and he even falsely accused Chanakya of Bindusara’s mother’s death. When a contemptuous Bindusara withdrew all his connections with Chanakya under this belief, Chanakya became heartbroken and starved himself to death. Later on, a nurse who treated Bindusara’s mother, named Durdha, revealed the true reason behind Bindusara’s mother’s death thereby relieving Chanakya’s image from the false guilt.

2 – Chanakya kept adding poison to Chandragupta Maurya’s food to immune him against the worst possible poisons his enemies can probably inflict upon him. While Chanakya did it sneakily without anyone’s knowledge, Chandragupta Maurya’s wife, the queen consumed the poisonous food while she was pregnant. Chanakya, then in pursuit of saving the heir to the throne, Bindusara, cut open her womb and saved the baby which lead to instantaneous death of the queen. The sly minister Subandhu who was envious to Chanakya’s popularity twisted this story against him to poison Bindusara’s mind when he grew up. Bindusara snapped ties with Chanakya driven by disgust and Subandhu exploited this chance to cleverly burn Chanakya alive.

These are the two stories about Chanakya death that our historians have so far been able to unearth.
