No matter how promptly their names spring in our mind, casting can be truly controversial sometimes. Actors that we truly hold dear will be the first preference of us whilst selecting for the roles but the major casting decisions were truly prickly lately.

Mostly, the superhero flicks whose casting decisions become clickbait. This is not a cakewalk however for the directors to zero down on actors on a particular role because in history, many of them have faced fan backlash that cause solicited brouhaha.

3. Idris Elba-Heimdall:

Idris Elba was cast as the Norse God Heimdall in Thor which brought winds of dissent from the racist nerds and the director feared losing some fans too. However, the criticisms lost coherence as Idris Elba gave one of his best performances in the role.

4. Daniel Craig-James Bond:

When the James Bond franchise was being rebooted, he was cast after being scrutinized a lot by the fans. His acting chops and looks were looked down upon to play such an iconic character of James Bond’s. Hollywood movies CGI – Making an adventure Hollywood movie is not everybody’s cup of tea and usage of CGI nowadays has made filmmaking way more difficult.

But we had no inkling till what gamut the stuntment, directors and actors wring themselves dry to bring out the best before us. They even engage in real life stunts which claim their lives any time.

Nontheless, their devotion remains always unflinching and here are some examples of Hollywood movies CGI.

1. Tom Cruise climbed Burj Khalifa for Mission Impossible-Ghost Protocol:

Burj Khalifa, the 2,722 feet high building in Dubai was climbed by Hollywood darling Tom Cruise during his shooting for Mission Impossible-Ghost Protocol. While they can easily use a green screen that taking that deadly step but then Tom Cruise was a perfectionist.

2. The car roll scene in Casino Royale was an actual one:

The Bond franchise rolled in dough ever since Daniel Craig was roped in during 2000s. The first record was made during his first film Casino Royale where stuntman Adam Kirley did 7 cannon rolls in a single stunt which set the highest record of cannon rolls in the world.

3. The Tray catch scene in Spiderman:

Tobey Maguire seemed to perform the act of holding a tray with everything on it while holding a girl in another hand like a cakewalk but there were different level of efforts put after it to make it appear real. They did not use CGI but superglue on the tray and after 156^th take it came out perfect.

4. The Paris Café Scene in Inception:

Christopher Nolan is not an advocate of CGI as much and in the film Inception, he incorporated a plethora of practical effects. In the Paris Café scene, where the pieces of debris burst in a row in slow motion, he utilized a series of air cannons at 1,500 frames-per-second being shot by specialized cameras.

5. The dinosaurs in Jurassic Park were not CGI:

24 years have gone by since the release of Jurassic Park and its realistic treatment gives major direction goals. The beastly and terrifying dinosaurs were built using animatronics, and others were humans wearing dinosaur suits. The special effects legend Stan Winston made Spielberg’s dream come true. Stan later won an Academy award for this.

6. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind boasts of no CGI:

Jim Carrey was seen in a complete different character than a comedian in the movie who seeks riddance from his girlfriend’s memories. The movie had practical usage of special effects where two versions of Joel Barish (Jim Carrey) were made. While one was in the memory, other watched it where the director made Jim run back and forth in the scene. It was retouched with some quick transitions later but imagine the hard work!

7. The 18 wheeler flip in the Dark Knight was real:

There was no CGI involved in Dark Knight too as Christopher Nolan has an aversion towards it. The Batmobile rammed into a garbage truck in the movie where miniature scaled set and vehicles were used to execute the effect. Even the 18 wheeler flip was a real shot shoot on the streets of Downtown Chicago using a catapulting ram built into the semi to flip it over.

8. The Orcs in the Lord of the Rings:

Peter Jackson shot the Hobbit with a 3D camera but viewers chose The Lord of the Rings over it despite having ample CGI. The Orcs that were shown in the movie were humans with full body make-up and costumes.

9. Nolan planted 500 acres of corn for Intersteller:

He copied the idea from Zack Snyder from his movie Man of Steel. There was a scene of a car tearing into a corn field which was no CGI one.

10. Tony Stark’s arc reactor:

Iron Man movies are full of CGI but the scene in which Pepper Pots is seen pulling the arc reactor out of Tony’s prosthetic chest happens to be the only non GGI scene in the movie. The chest was a mere prop but Tony Stark’s lab was real, the behind-the-scene footages released by the production team later revealed.

4 – Sherlock Holmes: A game of shadows, Royal Naval College, London:

There is a scene where Sherlock Holmes confronts Adler was shot in this beautiful place.

5 – Avengers: Age of Ultron, Fort Bard:

The Hydra’s research facility is actually this fort which falls in the route between Italy and France. Dating back to 1830s, the fort was put up by Charles Albert of Savoy.

6 – Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Glenfinnman, Scotland:

Remember the quaint bridge tearing apart mysterious wilderness on which a whistling Hogwarts Express passed by with Hogwarts students as passengers? That is the same bridge we are talking about. In the film, a panoramic view was shown of Glenfinnman, a real Scottish Bridge whose construction finished in 1898.

7 – The Hobbit Trilogy, Hobbiton, New Zealand:

It is located inside the wilderness of Mount Victoria in New Zealand. The set was such a treat to the eye and this place mutated into a tourist place soon after. Once there, stroll through the village and explore the place where Bilbo Baggin resides.

8 – Batman Begins, Svínafellsjökull, Iceland:

In a Tibetan Monastery, Bruce Wayne meets his alter-ego Batman. However, it was not Tibet the scene was shot in, rather it was Scotland’s Svínafellsjökull.

9 – Oblivion, Iceland:

Props Used In Movies – Whenever I watch a movie & I see actors using certain props & equipment’s, once the movie ends, I always take one question along with me on my way back home. The question is, “What happens to the props & equipments once the movie is done?” Like seriously, where the hell are they kept? Does celebs take them? Or are they throw away? I know, I’m NOT the only one who has ever had this question running through mind.

So to find out where they end up, I did a little research.

I came to find out that a lot happens with the props once the movie ends.

• Ken Miyamoto on Quora said “This is generally a big stage or warehouse on lot that contains a variety of movie props that are utilized over and over in various different films and have been for decades.”

So yes, the props are stored in studio’s wardrobe department & are reused if needed later in the production. Just imagine studio’s warehouse filled with so many props. It is been said that some props are kept on display so that others might come & have a look. Some are auctioned & people seriously buy them at any cost. Sometimes, Celebs take them too.

LOVE – a four letter word that actually makes the world function!

It is also the same word that keeps everyone on their toes, gives them goose bumps, butterflies in the stomach, makes them jump with joy, make everyone go crazy and makes life tad more interesting than it is!

With the passage of time, especially in India with liberals allowing and accepting that love is a way of life, everyone has joined the bandwagon of getting into a relationship.

By the time one turns into an adult, they have had at least one relationship to boast of.

And mind you, they are past their serious love affair and have come out mature to face the world, so they say!

Is it a reality though?

Actually, far from it! If you look closely, love is more of a fad these days, just to show off the way one shows off their latest gadget or party scene or dresses etc. The urge to be counted amongst those who have a boyfriend/girlfriend and to be able to boast that one is in love is much stronger than actually feeling the urge to love and be loved!

Now this is not a lecture about morals and ethics and what one should or shouldn’t do, but just trying to decipher what actually goes in today’s generation’s mind when they talk about love. Seriously speaking, most have watched rom-com cinema of Hollywood and it’s desi adaptation, read all of Chetan Bhagat’s candy floss surface level love stories and followed the lovey-dovey posts of couples on social media like Facebook, Twitter etc. and now want to emulate all of that in their life as well. Nothing bad in that if one can derive some pleasure by such activities, but it actually doesn’t help in the long term!

The reason why one gets in and out of love within a matter of days and love-marriages are heading for divorce so very often is that one associates the feeling of being in love with actually being in love! It is not easy to differentiate for most people and therefore they become super happy with the fact that they are in love rather than actually digesting the feeling of love, which comes with its own share of pain, longing, adjustments, compromises, sacrifices and what not! All one wants in love-life is to be happy, to be able to party, to spend time together doing fun things and be able to boast about it in their social circle. Love is much more than this and beyond all this!

Another way of looking at it is if someone doesn’t even realize the difference and yet is immensely happy, then no point in bursting the bubble! At least something is making the person happy, even if on a surface level, temporarily given the fact that otherwise life is full of stress and complications. As they say, ignorance is sometimes really bliss!

Well, whether you are in love or with the feeling of being in love, as long as you are happy and not hurting anyone, carry on! However, once in your lifetime, try to find the difference and actually try to live the experience of being really in deep true love. Your life will change and it will become more meaningless!

I love India, but I hate being an Indian!

I have my reasons!

Well, this morning I was sitting on my couch surfing social media and going through various causes people are promoting right from women’s rights to animal’s rights to what not. That’s when my maid came to hand over the tea and discussed her everyday problems with me while dusting. It made me think if we, as a society, are actually evolved as we claim to be or is it just a race on social media to portray ourselves as a responsible saint kind of people for our 15seconds of fame?

The harsh reality, my dear friends, is that we are nowhere near to be called a genuinely responsible and caring society. We, as a civilisation, have become experts in tom-tomming our good points and shouting from the rooftops about our achievements. However, we are least bothered about the rotten side! In fact, we are the contributors to that rotten side as we proudly call ourselves INDIAN and that’s how we are!

I am seriously not up to it! I just hate it!

Let me share with you the reasons for my callous statement and then you can decide for yourself!

1) We Actually Don’t Care!

It’s not about caring for others’ opinion about our lives, but caring for real causes, real people. We talk about giving love to children, but don’t think twice before ordering a cup of tea from an 11 year old kid working in a neighbouring tea stall, that too in the most indecent language!

2) Two-faced People!

Yes, we all are two-faced people. We love our double standards, and to the core! We love dusky Bipasha Basu on screen, but only want a fair bride for ourselves or in our families! Hypocrisy, right?

3) Beating Our Own Trumpet!

Aren’t we all self-centred to the extent that we try extra hard to show off our Gucci sunglasses and designer watches even at a funeral? Isn’t it always about brownie points or those few seconds of fame?

4) We Hardly Use Brains!

Now don’t make that face of getting pissed off! Yes, we follow others without using our own head. A neighbor buys a particular cell phone; we all will follow them in a herd. Someone goes to a particular restaurant, within a week, we will try to go to the same place and even upload pictures on our Facebook, Twitter profiles!

5) Hardly Care About Animals!

We don’t love fellow human beings enough, where is the question of loving animals? That is the reason for stray animals living in such pitiable conditions and then we consider Cow as a mother and search for dogs to feed after performing puja at home!

6) I, Me, Myself!

Yes, you will agree here that all we are concerned about is our opinions and viewpoints about anything and everything! Others’ opinion or views, be it religion, beliefs or faith, who the hell cares????

7) Blind Copycats!

A song becomes a hit in Korea, we will blindly copy it! A movie becomes a hit in Hollywood; there will be a race to copy it here. A new fashion trend emerges in France, we will copy it without even thinking if it goes well with our body types or not. You all remember the low-waist jeans fashion disaster just a couple of years back, don’t you?

8) Whole World Is A Dustbin!

Now that is one attitude which is responsible for PM Modi’s Swachh Abhiyaan going for a toss! My house should remain spic and span, but it’s my birthright to throw all possible garbage outside as I have nothing to do with it. It’s government’s job to clean it, right? So called INDIAN I am!

9) Money Decides If You Are Human Or Not!

How much one earns makes him/her important in our life. Think about it, how much importance do we give to an office peons or a bus conductor compared to a rich businessman or a senior government official? Got the answer, huh?

10) Always Seeking Answers Outside!

We blindly follow all those dhongi babas and gurus who sexually and financially exploit the followers as we want ready-made answers and solutions to all our problems, served on a platter! Wish we had the patience to look inside and find that all answers lie within us! Wish we believed in efforts and hardwork, as much we do in those dharm gurus and gyaani babas!

Am sure you’ll agree with me that not all is hunky dory with our society and there is no time to sit and wonder about our ancestors’ achievements all those thousands of years back.

It’s time to change ourselves for good for a better today and tomorrow!

Hindi movies are being remade into hit daily soaps!

English and Hindi movies are mixed to make some new daily soaps to cater to the needs of ever-growing appetite of Indian audiences. Then why aren’t the old classic shows being remade so that GenX can enjoy some gems from the past?

We present you some of the old popular tv shows from the 90’s which are evergreen and can really be remade in a contemporary fashion to serve befitting entertainment to the youth of today! We would love to watch them for sure!

1) Hum Paanch

This hilarious comedy from the stable of Balaji Telefilms in 90’s is something which had a universal flavour. A dysfunctional family of a couple with five daughters who are truly unique can just be the right kind of entertainment for today’s youth when women empowerment is the theme on everyone’s lips! And yes, it also had Vidya Balan making her debut so maybe she can return to TV with this one!

College life is one of the best phases of anyone’s life and it can never go out of fashion! This hard hitting show about college life, politics, love and what not can really be served up to satiate the taste buds of GenX! For older generation it can be great nostalgia and for youth, some rock ‘n’ roll entertainment. For those who don’t know, ace actor Irfan Khan made his debut with this show as a father of the lead character and now he himself plays a lead actor in Hindi movies! What a journey, phew!

3) Dekh Bhai Dekh

This crazy LOL kind of comedy isn’t made nowadays! The world got Shekhar Suman from this show and what Kapil Sharma is achieving these days in the comedy space, Dekh Bhai Dekh achieved this and much more almost 20 years ago! This crazy family has to be recreated for complete family entertainment!

4) Tara

It was for the first time that on Indian Television, women were shown drinking, smoking and flirting, shedding all the inhibitions and leading a life they wished for! Tara was a pioneer of the sorts when it came to women’s independence and truly celebrated it with aplomb! Given the kind of regressive shows we have today, Tara can be like a breath of fresh air to depict the real face of women, to empower them and help them to get their right place in society! That’s what is needed today!

5) Zee Horror Show

Okay, not everyone is interested in the horror genre, but then in those olden days, the show created ripples with entire families getting hooked on to it for some scary pleasure! Imagine the year when technology wasn’t that good so the ghosts were all fake masks and made-believe funny figures. Still, we loved them. What if today’s progressive technology is used to create such a show; it can undeniably create mass hysteria and enormous TRPs!

However, there are several absurd ways by which movies try to keep their audience entertained. This form of entertainment usually comes in the form of stunt sequences that are literally implausible and cannot be pulled off by a layman.

Now you know how actors like Rajinikanth and Chuck Norris get their status from, don’t you?

But have you not wondered if you could pull of a particular stunt or a move they show in these movies? Here is a list of such moves that we wish we could perform in actual life –

This scene from Singham sent every movie watcher in a tizzy. It is not only implausible but hilarious to look at. Can you pull off this stunt with such accuracy? We don’t think so!!

Where Rohit Shetty successfully manages to create the illusion of pulling off one such act, no one can do that in real life.

In this image, he puts couple of his own fingers in the antagonist’s mouth and twists him upside-down straight to the floor. In reality though, would you even want to put your finger in any person’s mouth?

An actor’s appetite for name and fame never subsides!

Add to it the colour of money and the urge to rule the world or the entire planet takes on new wings!

Such may be the case with our desi diva, Priyanka Chopra. She has been one of the top most actresses of current times as far as Bollywood is concerned. However, her appetite to be world famous, not just amongst Indians, but even amongst a global population forced her to try it out with her singing skills.

Well, we all know how that turned out. After trying real hard to sing in an American accent, joining hands with Hollywood musicians and singers and finally releasing three singles, she realised that becoming a pop-artist isn’t as simple as opening a soda bottle. Singing talents are different than being an actress and even though both are creative arts, both require different kind of skill sets. However, we do appreciate her attempts at trying something different!

In the same flow of things, she recently revealed that she has been cast in an American drama series, Quantico produced by one of the major entertainment networks of Hollywood, ABC Network. Here she is playing an important role opposite Jake McLaughlin of Grey’s Anatomy fame!

However, the question that comes to mind is that it isn’t a Hollywood movie which she has signed. No doubt it might be a big TV series, but is always going to be somewhat less than a Hollywood movie. So did she sign it because she couldn’t get through movies so the next big offer was pounced upon? And if she had to do TV, why not something in India as well? Not necessarily the usual saas-bahu drama, but something different that does justice to her talent. After all bigger stars than her like Anil Kapoor tried it here after doing a movie and then a series, 24! Even Amitabh Bachchan tried his hands at a local fictional show, Yudh; so what if it didn’t work out! Even movies flop, but a big star’s presence always helps the channels and production houses to raise the bar as far as content is concerned.

We do hope that she succeeds in her new venture, but it would be really nice to see her in a desi avatar on a locally produced fictional show where in her fans can get to see her on a daily basis, up close and personal mouthing Hindi dialogues! Portraying a different character with no forced song and dance sequences can really help her gain so many more fans who in turn will get some superlative entertainment on the idiot box famous for churning out below-standard content most of the times.

Crime in a society is as old as the concept of society itself. Efforts to swipe off the crime from the face of the planet are on since the beginning of time, but fail to succeed.

However, in current times, Real Crime Shows On Indian TV have opened a new channel of revenues globally and India isn’t far behind in commercializing crime, without being a part of it in any manner!

Yes, we are talking about the growth of crime-based shows which tend to bring the whole process of a crime right in your living rooms. Fictionalizing the whole process, right from the thought, devices used, to the actual act of crime is documented in an interesting adrenaline-raising format and then fed to gullible audiences in the garb of showing something so as to avoid further crime happening.

The show which first caught the eyeballs was India’s Most Wanted way back in 1999 and became a huge hit. Following its footsteps are shows like Crime Patrol-Dastak, Saavdhan India and the latest to join them is Code Red on Colors, hosted by evergreen actress of Hindi TV, Sakshi Tanwar.

Is the new show different? Something special about it? Will it help the common man and specifically youth to do something different? All these and many more questions are being asked as to how such shows work for the benefit of the society. Frankly speaking, there are no parameters or benchmarks or evaluative, analytical studies to show the impact these have on society. The only thing that’s for sure is happening is that the producers and channels showing these shows are making money off them. Reason being the audience’s appetite for edgy shows which showcase the real world as it is.

However, the newness is soon disappearing as far as the content is concerned. After just a few stories, each show starts looking like the same covering same real happenings, in almost the same manner. Code Red has started with an interesting premise of motivating people to stand up against crime, but is it enough of a differentiator? In this rat race of TRP’s, is it ok to sensationalize crime without offering something substantial to prevent it? Well, for now this is what we have in terms of entertainment. This is an idea straight away lifted from Hollywood shows which work on the same fundamentals.
