It is politics and politicians who make the rules and regulations. How we live, what we eat, see, talk, drink; practically anything and everything that we do with our lives, is controlled by our politicians, directly or indirectly!

Then why don’t we have an app to control this dominating species, which most of the times MISRULE?

The servants-turned-rulers must be shown their place the moment they do a ghotala! How nice and easy it would be to have an app which can help us decide which politician to vote for and which one to avoid. Or better still, once they are in power, how to keep a check on them!

For example, a minister watching porn in Parliament is highlighted on the app across the nation, the app users pick and vote, and immediately he gets suspended from power and debarred from politics for next 50 years!

Or better still, when a minister is trying to explain how having more children is good in an over-populated country, his credentials and whereabouts are immediately flashed on the Politics App, and we can choose a punishment for that politician through the app only! He can be made to stand on his chair in the Parliament holding his ears and told to learn the basic lessons of economics which he flunked!

Or an illiterate goon politician trying to draft education policy for the country can be spanked through the app, at free will till he becomes a better person.

Can you imagine the possibilities? This public humiliation of actual politicians in a mobile app will be real fun and may be, just may be, an indication for the erring ones to mend their ways and come on the right track!

Through the app, we can ensure only the best candidates get to serve us. We can mark the ones in politics who are on the seats just because their father, grandfather and his grandfather was in politics, and can be just kicked out, unless he/she really deserves to be a part of the system. The app must have a button which connects all and takes consensus on such issues. And APPS VERDICT MUST BE COMPLIED TO!

Also, there can be an age limit for those trying to govern. Technically sound app should calculate the age of al the ruling ministers. After all, how can you expect a person to have a vision when he himself can’t see properly or hear properly or even breathe properly! We are a young nation and need the power of youth to bring change with expert guidance from the experienced souls. No point in handing out power to those living past their expiry date!

Even though we are at the comforts of our home and office, technology is paving newer paths for the world.

With solar cells, geysers, kitchen equipment, light systems and the like, it is time for a solar plane now.

Two Swiss pilots have covered around 270 miles on a plane carrying no fuel, called Solar Impulse 2, that covered the area from Abu Dhabi, UAE to its first stop at Muscat, Oman on Monday, 9^th March.

The two pilots, André Borschberg and Bertrand Piccard have launched this project which will last a good five months in its journey around the world where the flights would be for continuous five or six days while the pilots swap positions on the single-seater plane that is propelled by nothing but the sun.

This is the first-ever attempt to fly the entire globe, a complete 21,747 miles or 35,000 km in 12 legs across the Altantic and Pacific oceans, returning to Gulf only in the month of July or August.

These pilots would be enduring a gruelling 250 hours in the narrow cockpit without any oxygen or even a temperature control option while the outside temperatures would range somewhere between -40 to 40 degrees Celsius.

As the first such solar-power flight has been launched, it comes with another disadvantage: the pilots would have to constantly attend to it and cannot afford to take long naps.

They would only be able to survive the day with 20-minute naps after every two to four hours. Eventually they will be woken up by pilots who will wear goggles and flash lights.

Apparently, they intend to practice yoga and have even taken training for the same to ward off the physical strains they will experience during the journey owing to sitting in the same position on the same seat for several days at a time. However, Borschberg reported that concentration is the most difficult part of the entire project.

Piccard, a psychologist, has been learning meditation and hypnosis techniques so that they can work on their concentration levels better.

The plane not only provides energy efficiency but also enlarges the possibilities of having a clean flight.

The pilots are however, unsure upon the success of the mission as it is interesting to simulate, calculate and imagine but it is only during practical testing and experimentation that one gets to know the real picture, though the pilots are both confident and    hoping to meet each other in five months.

Both the pilots have circumnavigated the globe from one coast to another in the US before this and are now expanding their boundaries to cover the whole world.

The plane’s built is light and weighs the same as a Volvo Sedan, its top mileage being 140 kilometres per hour, but the pilots will have to constraint on the battery usage by letting the plane use half of that speed. Its wings are huge that help it in absorbing the solar radiation and maintaining its flight, with 17000 solar panels powering them and making them look wider than even a Boeing 747. Lithium Batteries of a quantity of 633 kilos, that is somewhere about a quarter of the entire plane’s weight, are present in the plane to provide for energy for motors overnight.

The cockpit still lacks the provision of more space, oxygen supplies, food and other support systems of life. It comes with solar cells that constitute a very thin film. This solar energy trapped in its batteries is used for providing power to the motors and aiding its move while at night. There will be several halts in between this journey so that the pilots get enough time to rest and even fix any maintenance problems in the plane.

This project will bring about the viability of green flights and the promise of cleaner energy. For now, the two pilots are planning on campaigning on “Future is Clean” where the Solar Impulse Mission is set to garner support from English business magnate, Richard Branson and Prince Albert of Monaco.

Unfortunately, this plane cannot yet be called the future as it has a single-seater and too light-weighted to be used for a commercial purpose.

The Solar Impulse 2 has not only been instrumental in bringing about cleaner, greener options for flights, but has also been the first one to fly the distance between two continents.

Aviation industry is believed to burn the maximum amount of carbon according to the number of passengers and kilometres and emits a limitless quantity of greenhouse gases because of its emissions.

However, according to the pilots who pioneered this project and the Aerospace magazine, “it will take, as it took in the past, around 30-35 years to fly clean. New technologies will have to be developed , this will take time.”

However, this project and such energy-wise technologies can provide for great ideas of solar efficiency and power-saving in homes, inside cars and other useful, daily appliances as “unlike conventional engines, the aircraft loses only 3 per cent of energy through heat whereas the standard loss would be somewhere around 70 per cent.”

Energy efficiency, being the cheapest method for lessening carbon emissions across the world, Borschberg claims that these technologies  help to “cope with a major part of the challenge we are facing today in terms of energy, environment, pollution, natural resources and so on.” (As reported to The Guardian)

• If users click on the link, they are taken to a third-party website where a survey form is supplied labelling it as a survey of service credibility by WhatsApp Inc.
• The downside is that all this is fake and the survey forces the users to download mindless software that has nothing to with WhatsApp or any of its services. It is simply malware.

• Many people have claimed that they have used the WhatsApp call feature generating a frenzy amongst other users to lay their hands on this service ASAP!
• Officially, WhatsApp is yet to announce this feature and its details. Beta testing is going on at the moment, but everything is being kept under wraps.
• Credible sources claim that most beta-testers are from India
• Mark Zuckerberg, Co-Founder of Facebook Inc. and owner of WhatsApp Inc. has revealed in many interactions with the media, that they are indeed working on this feature and it will soon release for public usage.
• Until recently the WhatsApp Call feature was activated only if someone who has the feature enabled on their phone either calls you from WhatsApp or invites you to try this feature. This feature has been disabled for now due to traffic issues.

Samsung is currently warning its customers not to discuss their personal information in front of their smart television set since it apparently hears everything due to its voice activation features. All TV viewers who control their Samsung Smart TV with its voice activation features are at potential risk of privacy infringement that too by a mere television set!

What it actually does?

Apparently these SMART TV sets “listen” to what is said in front of them to analyse data and may share details with Samsung as part of customer improvement programs; what people like ‘to see’. The warning was issued when a news story was released in an online news magazine called the Daily Beast, which published excerpts of Samsung’s privacy policies for its internet-connected Smart TV sets that can possibly do anything a personal computer or a mobile phone can.

The policy outlines that the TV set will listen to people’s words to try and judge which specific commands or queries are issued via the remote when voice activated. It also clearly states ‘If your spoken words include personal or sensitive information, that information will be among the data that is captured and transmitted to a third party.’ The third-party handling the translation techniques from speech to text has yet not been named for anonymity.

Samsung has clarified that it does not retain any voice data or sell the audio that is being captured. The Smart-TV owners will always be notified if voice activation is turned on by a ‘microphone icon’ on the TV screen.

This declaration, however arouses many questions regarding customer privacy.

1. Imagine if you’re saying sweet nothings to your loved one or having a rebellious fight with someone at home; that is your personal matter, you would not want the world to know about it, would you?

It seems Mark Zuckerberg has kept his word that he made in November 2014 to delimit posts from pages that promote promotional posts pertaining to marketing motives.

This is what he had to say during a Facebook developer conference last year “Beginning in January 2015, people will see less of this type of content [promotional page posts] in their News Feeds,” and admitted that brands that post promotional content “will see a significant decrease in distribution.”

Now it is happening in reality; Facebook is slowly restraining organic social marketing on its site to give users a less cluttered timeline that is laden with more meaningful posts than promotional offers and other loopholes that marketers try to trap oblivious users into.

Since long, marketers have tried hard to push advertisements and promotions based on organic reach and engagements to boost their outreach; this was particularly harming Facebook’s objective of providing a social media experience rather than being a mere marketing website akin to e-commerce portals or wholesale bazaars.

Ogilvy, a world renowned marketing and PR agency recently reported that in 2014 many large brands’ Facebook posts reached a mere 2% of their fans. This decision by Facebook is bound to kill whatever market these marketers built on Facebook by spending so much money. This is a buzzkill of sorts and it is best if marketers come up with newer Social Relationship Strategies if they are to maintain brand image and outreach.

The best way marketers can save them from being curtailed completely is to start adding social relationship tools to their own websites. If a customer is loyal to your brand, he will surely visit your website to determine your success and backtrack to your Facebook page for being a ‘fan-boy’.

Branded communities are the way to go here; offering a secluded space for fans and loyalists to feel special; being awarded promotional offers and discounts of a rare kind. January 21 was a historic day for all Whatsapp users worldwide!

For all chat-crazy people, Whatsapp (which was recently acquired by Facebook Inc.) gifted a major update to its millions of users.

You can finally give your Bluestacks or Airdroid 3 mirroring a break!

The update was a clean Whatsapp UI integrated into a browser API that lets you use Whatsapp on your computer, laptop, or non-3G PDA supporting a web browser via WiFi.

The web client is an extension to your copy of Whatsapp on your phone, which means it simply mirrors all conversations and messages stored on your mobile device and relays them to the current PC being used; all of your messages stay on your phone and new messages sent via the web platform to get appended to the message threads-LIVE!

Most of you reading this article may have tried the web platform at least once for sure, just to see what the buzz was all about.

For people still oblivious to this great offering or who haven’t tried it yet, here is a step by step guide to getting it done the right way.

To connect your web browser (Google Chrome) to your WhatsApp client,

• Update your Whatsapp to the latest version via the Play store.
• Open https://web.whatsapp.com from your updated Google Chrome browser. A unique QR code will appear.
• Within Whatsapp, go to the menu options and Select ‘Whatsapp Web’, A QR scanner will appear.
• Scan the QR code on the PC with this QR scanner. Once the QR code is duly verified, your Whatsapp will be paired between your phone and your web client.
• Please remember that your phone needs to stay simultaneously connected to the internet for the pairing to work. For now, the web client is not available to iOS users due to Apple platform limitations which does not allow pairing over multiple devices and purges messages when received on the other device for enhanced security (no push notifications).

Now that almost every one of you has successfully used Whatsapp on web, how was your experience like? Our experience was a little mixed, but considering that it is still in a very early developmental stage, here are a few pros and cons that we felt after our experience. We really hope Whatsapp notices the cons and irons them out in the future interface for more scalability and ease of use.

PROS

• Finally being able to use a full sized keyboard for Whatsapp
• The ability to run Whatsapp within a different browser tab, making multi-tasking more efficient.
• Ease of use. This web interface is a no-brainer and is as easy as the mobile version
• Use your WEBCAM! For people lacking a front cam on their phones, you can now use your laptop webcam for chatting and sending recorded videos
• Directly download shared media on to your PC. Please remember that older media not available on your phone will not be available for download due to non-availability on the Whatsapp server
• Highly secure SSL connection
• An option to log out which helps to log out from all active PC sessions
• Works on Windows, Mac OS X and Linux

CONS

• Whatsapp on your phone needs to be constantly connected via a 2G/3G or WiFi connection to be able to authenticate the user session. This might incur data charges for 2G/3G  users
• Sometimes, the connection is lost intermittently if the phone sometimes goes into sleep or power-saving mode.
• Emojis aren’t yet mapped to the keyboard so you will have to type them out yourself
• Sharing contacts or maps aren’t available as yet
• New group chats cannot be started. Older groups cannot be left via the web interface
• No option of blocking contacts via web
• No profile picture or status change
• A bane for office administrators since most employees would be chatting their heads off on the browser. A mobile can be restricted but spotting someone chatting on the web isn’t easy.
• Currently available only on Google Chrome due to push notification limitations

All in all, for a starting experience, we liked the interface for its intuitiveness and ease of use. With due course of time, Whatsapp will surely eliminate the cons we have listed above. For now, it is an added bonus for people wanting to work on a PC yet stay connected via Whatsapp for a little break.

Most users will eventually be using the phone since it’s more handy and the current ‘maintaining connection‘ between both devices is a little cumbersome. But then, it is still better than the older Whatscloud and Whatsapp remote which were a little clunkier and slower. We also hope that this service comes to all popular browsers and not just Google Chrome.

There might come a time like the old days when chatting on the PC might get a revival akin to the old Gtalk and Yahoo Messenger days.
