This is one of the most common kinds that you’d meet in a pub. They are dressed to kill, but do nothing to mingle or come on to the dance floor. They just watch and amuse themselves.

Dancing as if possessed:
After a couple of tequila shots, some burn the dance floor as if they have been possessed. The irritating part is, they will pull you to the floor and make a fool out of you as well! Goddamn them.

Drunk maniacs:

Bouncer tales:

The dark interiors of pubs are reason enough for couples or even strangers to make-out. It’s pretty unsettling to walk into folks who are in the throes of passion. Hmm…at least, they’re getting some!

What’s college life without a bit of drunken fun, eh? For most people, clubbing and getting sloshed begins in college…whether due to peer pressure or because they want to experiment, it’s this institution that teaches you to have fun.

When I was in the second year of college, our class decided to go on an educational tour to New Delhi. Naturally, we were super excited as it was the first time we were going out as a group! It was supposed to be a 3-day affair with the 3rd day dedicate for sightseeing and masti.  Initial days were educational and entertaining, but it was the third day that really made this trip memorable. My darling roomie, who was dating a guy based in Delhi that time (she is getting married to him next year), decided to get a couple of drinks with him. I was going to ber her buffer if our tour instructor dropped by.

She started getting ready from evening itself as she was way too happy to meet her beau. I was helping her with her dress and hair and it was a total fun evening as we played ‘dress up’ by rummaging through her luggage. Finally, she chose a classy LBD and nude pumps for her date and gave me a massive hug before strutting out of the room. I was quite excited myself, what with an entire room to myself…I ordered for comfort food (read junk) and was enjoying some ‘me time’. It was around midnight when I heard footsteps and I rushed to meet my roomie as I wanted to know everything about her night!

And that’s when the fun started…instead of being buzzy, she was sloshed out of her mind. Her pumps were gone, her hair was disheveled and her purse was missing. She was puking all over the room and was making strange noises that were scaring the hell out of me. As I was trying to calm her down, she started hitting me and screamed out something that went, ‘I am going blind, dude. Get a doctor. I am blind!’ Instead of helping her, I was doubling up with laughter as it was just too funny to watch her act dumb.

She kept on yelling about going blind and I was not helping her at all. I was busy filming her great act and only when she fell down due to exhaustion did I fetch her some lime juice! Ah, what a day. Thanks to my video skills (ha!), I still have it on record and we embarrass her on her birthday…even now!

It was introduced to differentiate the villain from the main lead, if they both happened to be good lookers. But when they smile maniacally, you know you would be scarred for life.

Sporting glares. Always:
May be they are afraid of laughing while delivering their ridiculous dialogues or whatever, but they always wear a pair of glares that is meant to look totally badass.

Mere paas maa nahi hai:
Somehow, none of the villains seem to have maa ka aashirwad. Bollywood’s famed mommy sentiment is reserved for the righteous hero alone. That’s exactly why villains have all the fun. Duh.

If you have been hopping around the world to enjoy the festivities, you would have changed time zones and braved the one thing every globe-trotter hates, jet lag. But, worry not! We tell you some ways to fight this. Take a look:

Rest well before flying:
We know that you’re super excited about your vacay and bubbling with energy, but it’s best to take proper rest before boarding your flight. If you plan to have a wild night-out with your buddies, you’re going to end up with more jet lag than you can handle. Sleep early, if need be and keep your last night in the country hassle free.

Setting your body clock:
When you’re on the flight and the pilot announces you to set the time on your watch, you should mentally fix your body clock too. If you’re in Europe, don’t think about the time back in your city…just go with the flow so that you don’t feel uneasy when you land at your destination. You might also want to nap a bit on transatlantic flights so that you’re well rested before your vacay begins.

Sleeping pattern:
One thing that you must remember is to follow the sleeping pattern of the local place and not your own one. If it’s six in the evening and you’re bone tired, drink lots of coffee and stay awake till about 9, before dozing off. This way, you will sleep better and your jet lag will be minimal too. You might wake up early morning the next day, utilize it to go for walks to get lot of fresh air!

Board a plane with stopovers:
If possible, board a plane that will stopover at some place for 4-6 hours. This way, you get to come off the plane, stretch a bit and adjust with your new destination time better. Always keep yourself hydrated, especially during long flights.

Follow your destination time:
Whether it’s in-flight eating or napping, follow the time zone of your destination and not home. If you’d be eating at your destination, ask for snacks that you can much on and if you’d be sleeping at your destination, take a nap (you can pop in an OTC sleeping pill too, if need be).

Talk it out:
One of the main reasons why your friends can turn against you and indulge in groupism is due to lack of communication. It’s best to talk it out and sort out your differences. If you know what the problem is, you’d be able to avoid this nasty thing called groupism.

Acceptance:
You have to accept that in a group of five, you’d be closest to just one. There’s no way you could have two best friends, despite you considering everybody equal. There’s obviously only one person you call/text/meet more than the rest of the gang. It’s true for the rest of people in your group too, so accept that a little bit of groupism is going to be a part of your college life. When you’re mentally prepared to take this head on, you’ll feel less flustered about it.

No backbiting:
You could hate one of your group mates so much that you want to pull her/his eyes out, but never backbite. If you have issues with him/her, tell to his/her face. Don’t pass it on from one to another like it’s a game of Chinese Whispers. Information always get diluted when passed around, so confrontation is your best tool.

Don’t break the ‘Bro Code’:
It’s very common to have crushes on your groupmate(s) and if two of your friends are going steady with each other, don’t flaunt your crush for one of them. You’ll be criticised for breaking the sacred ‘Bro Code’ and ostracized from the group. Despite attraction being one of the most common things in a teen’s life, others will not accept it and make your life hell. Do you want that?

Being a-social:
You must take out time to mingle with your group and stop being a-social with them. Go out for dinners, parties and day-outs/night-outs. If you know it in your heart that this is not what you really wanted or it’s not going to way you thought it would, it’s important to call it quits. Communication lag:
Remember the initial phase of dating when you would text each other throughout the day and call about five times, just to, umm…check on him/her? Well, that’s no longer there, is it? Now it’s more of a customary (cursory?) call at the end of the day, just to, umm…say things are cool. Texts have dwindled and e-mails and pings don’t really excite the either of you. When picking up the phone and calling him/her is a task, you know you can’t go on with this relationship. Because the only thing that binds you together is the excitement to speak with each other and share even the silliest of issues with each other. If that feeling isn’t there, what would you do with each other?

Arguments lead to fights:
During your initial years, you might have solved your issues by compromising or promptly saying a ‘sorry’ to end the argument. But not now. Even the smallest ones grow into a full fledged fight as neither of you want to give in. In a way, you’re marking your territory and telling him/her that I am not going to fight for us. If it has come down to this in your relationship, it’s important that you think about spending the rest of your life with him/her. If you can’t handle each other’s annoying habits, there’s no way you can be there for each other.

Zero sexual attraction:
Love also needs lust to survive. If you have been giving your daily quota of sex a miss, time to think where exactly your relationship is heading. You gotta keep the spark alive and if you’re unable to, really, there’s no way out for you. Forget sex, even if intimacy is lacking in your everyday activity, you have to give you two a serious thought.

Future plans? What’s that?
You can’t imagine that there was a time when you had decided on your kids’ names, and now you can’t even broach the topic of tying the knot. If your future plans looks fuzzy and you don’t want to imagine talking to your respective set of parents about each other. Ouch.

Her loud avatar, cuss words-spewing and brazen appearance won her accolades from every quarter. Bebo played a call girl in the thriller ‘Talaash’ as well. But the movie failed to dazzle at the BO and her act didn’t get the appreciation it deserved. And it was definitely not as good as Chameli.

Rani Mukerji (Laga Chunri Mei Daag)
Rani plays a high profile call girl Natasha, who falls in love with the sophisticated Abhishek Bachchan. In this drama, Rani’s character is pushed to take up this job as she doesn’t have any other means to earn money. The firebrand actress is at her best in the movie as she beautifully conveys the trauma and helplessness of being abused. Although the movie was a box office disaster, Mukerji’s role was appreciated.

Neha Dhupia (Julie)
Another movie on the lines of a young girl being pushed to take up prostitution in desperation. Dhupia’s bold avatar brought her instant recognition and she is best known for this movie. Despite courting many controversies, ‘Julie’ managed to make good money across the country. Perhaps one of the most provocative movies in the category, it redefined Indian cinema.

Veena Malik (Zindagi 50-50)
She may not have tasted much success with this mediocre attempt at titillating  the audiences, but her role was quite liked by her loyal fans. The Pakistani bombshell did look convincing in the gait of a wronged woman who takes on the world. Had the movie not been made for the front-row public, it would have had a shot at the BO.

Preity Zinta (Chori Chori Chupke Chupke)
The bubbly Zinta babe plays a call girl who is approached by Salman Khan and Rani Mukeri for a child via surrogacy. Although the movie got into a lot of controversy due to its underworld connection, it remains the only movie to talk about the sensitive subject of surrogate mother.

One of these days, I will be going back to college…not as a student, but as a guest lecturer. It’s definitely one of the highlights of my life and I am excited as hell (yeah, my jumping up and down on the bed is testimony to this fact)  As I am packing my bags to revisit my college, I am remembering certain things that I would always associate with my college life. Read on to find out what they are…

Last minute photocopying of notes:
Despite being a good student then, I was always one of those people who would photocopy important notes at the last minute. It would be sort of like a ritual to look for a student who has copied down everything and beg him/her to lend his/her book for a couple of hours so I can quickly photocopy! Strangely, everyone in my group was the same. Last minute panic. Photocopy. Score decently!

Lecture rescheduled SMS:
I absolutely miss this, man! Everyday I would be hoping for the class prefect to send an SMS saying, either lecture cancelled or rescheduled! But that would always happen on my birthdays…I would be so excited about having a fun party, when bam! They would cancel the lecture altogether. Damn it. But yeah, I do miss those texts. They used to have the power to either make or break my day. Don’t you agree with me?

Bunking lectures:
Oh, the joy of bunking lectures and watching movies! If you haven’t mass-bunked and gone for ‘first day first show’ movies, you haven’t lived at all! The pleasure lies in eating a large tub of cheese popcorn and hooting at your favorite actor/actress without a single care in the world. There’s something magical about watching movies slyly! Do you agree with me or not?

Crushing on classmates:
I remember having crushes on every other cute boy in college. From boys across divisions to bench-mates, I have had the hots for almost everybody! Oh, the fun of dressing up, stuttering in front of them, timing canteen visits to accidentally bump into them and clearing out ‘doubts’, and so on. in fact, crushing on someone keeps your heart healthy as the sudden rush helps in pumping blood! Woohoo…

Shopping for cool stuff!
Back in college, I would constantly shop for cool gadgets and hep clothes…to ‘fit in’ (whatever that means) and to feel awesome about myself. From having the latest phones to putting on fake accents, I miss this fun phase. Now that I am earning and can actually afford fancy phones, I am using a very basic one. Ah, talk about growing up!
