The Supreme Court appointed committee has given its verdict and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as well as Rajasthan Royals (RR) are banned from the IPL for next two years!

This is indeed a big blow, but given our legal system, there might be some appeals, some more time to buy time to overturn the judgements or ask for some kind of leniency in punishments etc. that will go on. However, it is a watershed moment in the history of Indian cricket and if the judgment is followed in letter and spirit, then very soon BCCI will be looking for two new franchisees to replace the punished ones!

Given the fact that RR was partly owned by Shilpa Shetty’s husband, Raj Kundra (even he is debarred from participating in any form of cricket); suddenly the glamour quotient will drop! Of course Shahrukh Khan and Preity Zinta are still there, but more glamour can only help to make IPL even more successful. And to top it all, Sallu Bhai’s “Hit and Run” case is taking the nation by storm!

There is so much to talk and contemplate on, right?

But Mr. Raj ‘Shilpa Shetty” Kundra picked a rather offbeat topic to pour his views about! He chose sadda hero Shahrukh’s Frooti ad to spell disgust on and did so with elan!

Well, the new jingle of a mango drink Shah Rukh Khan endorses, is not quite sweet music to the ears of Shilpa Shetty’s husband Raj Kundra.

The new ad-film for the product features an animated gimmick, with a toy-sized SRK joining other similar toy figures in gaping at a huge mango descending from the sky.

Kundra’s objection is with the background song that accompanies the visuals. It goes: “Aam suckita…lickita… enjoyita.” Shah Rukh himself makes an appearance right at the end of the ad-film, taking hold of a bottle and sipping into it.

While the ad-film does create a whacky mood for the product, Kundra has tweeted disgust. “This ad is disgusting! Kids copying and singing suck it lick it a. @iamsrk bhai how did u approve this script? Tasteless literally!” Kundra tweeted.

Shah Rukh has chosen to stay away from replying to Kundra’s comment as of now, but the superstar is known to clearly spell out his point of view on anything involving his image.

And lo and behold, after this episodic one sided war, Kundra started trending on Facebook! The last time he did, so was when he was accused of betting in the IPL. So this may have come as a welcome surprise. What a way man! What a way!!

Now going back to the ad, whatever the dirty picture department of your brain says, sucking and licking are perfectly sexual activities too, right? In fact, we suck on mangoes and lick our ice cream cones all the time. And children, below a certain age, only know that kind. The rest, who are of the age, which tells them that verbs have different meanings in different stages of life, won’t sing it aloud and embarrass anyone.

Also, the words are integral to the activity of eating. Like how does a good Bengali describe what do with a mutton bone filled with marrow, simmering in gravy? There’s no replacement for the words, ‘sucking it’ really!

By Kundra’s logic, the entire first half of the ad which lists the following activities – push it, pull it, hit it, move it, shoot it – could be passed off as the beginner’s guide to BDSM and put Rihanna and 50 Shades of Grey clubbed together to shame. But that’s hardly how children will see it, right?

Probably Kundra should taste a Frooti before saying the as “tasteless”!! Raj Kundra, take a chill pill!!

So let’s all calm down and suck on a Frooti and concentrate on bigger issues!

It’s not us who are saying this, but a big company in the business of toilet accessories is saying this.

Yes, you read it right!

In a country where basic hygiene is still a novelty of concept for most of the population, where toilets are still considered to be a luxury rather than basic necessity, there are organisations who consider that toilets need to have a class, a style. According to them, having a stylised commode or an attractive faucet is more important than having a basic “Shauchlaya” for poor people who have to relieve themselves in the dark of the night in open fields or on railway tracks!

Actually, there is news doing the rounds that Shahrukh has been signed for or is on the verge of signing a contract to be the brand ambassador of the company and promote their toilet accessories for a whopping 15crores! Can you imagine the figure?

It’s humongous!

Come to think of it. Isn’t it better for the company to rather spend that kind of money to make public toilets or adopting a few villages and providing each household there with a decent toilet? This amount of Rs. 15crores can help in constructing so many “Sulabh Shauchlaya” which can have company’s accessories to help build the branding too. They can use the toilet walls for their brand logos, their efforts for a much needed social cause will give them free publicity and enhance the brand in a positive manner.

It’s true that it is a free economy and everyone is free to conduct their business the way they want it, but then there are some basic needs of the country, and everyone has a responsibility for that. With Mr. Modi’s Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan crawling at a snail speed, such initiatives will give the campaign a big shoot, with the hygiene facilities they will be providing. Instead of showering so much money on celebs to establish the brand, it is important to be amongst the common man and help out with his real needs. Advertising the brand can happen with lesser known models who won’t charge such a bomb. The word of mouth publicity, the positive feedback after doing the community service and economical advertising can easily establish the brand in the consciousness of the consumer. What say? Isn’t it a constructive idea?

Our heroes have multiple avenues to earn big bucks from. Let them earn from promoting cars and paints and clothes and detergents while companies who can contribute in developing the nation, in however small manner, should do their bit instead of spending their valuable resources on exorbitant fees of superstars!

Shahrukh Khan must be very, very sad!

The man whose dimpled smile makes women go weak in their knees across the world must be crying out loud in the privacy of his home since he has got no option!

After all, he has just delivered a fourth massive flop show on TV and it indeed is a big deal. Yes, we are talking about his latest dud, Sabse Shaana Kaun on the new GEC &TV which has proved that at least SRK isn’t the shaana of all!

Come to think of it, he took over the reins from Amitabh Bachchan for Kaun banega Crorepati and fell flat on his face. Then he proved that he isn’t faster than kids in Kya Aap Paanchvi Paas Se Tez Hain? After that came a show which had no head or tails and may not even be found in the annals of the worst shows ever history, Zor Ka Jhatka which didn’t have any fizz. Now comes Sabse Shaana.. and again, he has failed to connect with his massive audience which pays from its nose to watch his films in theatres, but when it comes to watch him free of cost, night after night in the comfort of their homes, the very same audience ignores him like a plague rat!

So what’s wrong? Why his Midas touch not working in TV while in the movies he keeps doing wonders with his same senseless crazy sense of humour? While his contemporaries like Salman Khan and Aamir Khan are drawing huge crowds for their respective TV shows, Bigg Boss and Satyamev Jayate, the King of Bollywood is failing?

One primary reason could be the selection of shows. If the show’s format or the script doesn’t relate with the audience, it will fail no matter who is hosting it. Secondly, we think SRK is living in a cocoon where he is thinking that the audience is still that naïve, innocent sorts who loved him in DDLJ days and will continue to fall for his cute innocent boy next door humour. That must be his biggest mistake as the world has moved much ahead than those mushy days.

The reason Sallu bhai is such a huge hit is because he touches raw emotions, real emotions which involves bit of edgy fun and isn’t too sweet. It has its own share of anger, irritation for crap, boldness for adventure, things which relate to every human being. Aamir of course is holding the flag for morality and ethics and that’s why working. SRK on the other hand is just trying to sugary sweet and trying to show that everything in the world, his world, is hunky dory and people should just laugh and smile and be in the ‘awwwwwwwww’ moment all the time! Sadly, that isn’t a reality beyond social networking sites!

Extra sugar causes diabetes, Mr. Khan! Come back to earth from your la la land and entertain your fans in a real manner with something that adds value to entertainment! Or else, please stick to the brain-less movies you are doing now a days, rather than edgy cinema which gave you the brand identity all those years ago!

These and many more such titles are usually used to describe this gorgeous looking actress who is part of some of the biggest Bollywood projects. However the most challenging and latest to add on to title that might make her stand out from the crowd is: Anushka Sharma is a film producer!

You might wonder what’s the big deal since it is considered to be a position to make millions and lead a luxury powerful life with people sweeping your feet and bending backwards to make you happy!

Interestingly, part of it is really true, but where the reality seeps in is that being a female producer in a male-dominated industry is really a very very big deal!

Despite talking about women empowerment and as Shahrukh Khan once claimed that all his movies will have female lead credits rolling in before male credits, the hard truth is that it is extremely tricky to be able to make a movie if you are a women. Right from the process of arranging funds, getting the right cast and crew, getting down to the dirty and highly tiring on-the-ground production process to finally getting your film released is a herculean task if it’s a female who is running the show. That is one of the reasons in the 100years of Indian cinema, we have heard of just a handful of female producers or directors. Most prominent names can be Pooja Bhatt who was like a pioneer and started her own production company to direct movies closer to her heart without giving in to the market forces. Another recent example is Zoya Akhtar who is making movies which she believes in and they are not run of the mill stuff!

The most differentiating thing for Anushka, though, is that unlike Pooja or Zoya, she comes with no film-background or a family that’s been here for decades. It becomes really commendable to be able to star as a lead actress and in such a short span of her career have guts to stick her neck out for a project which is not conventional in any manner. Her upcoming movie NH10 in which she is a co-producer and lead actress as well is a concept driven film and is far away from the run of the mill stuff! This is called being courageous and being bold enough to invest her hard earned money in a project which might not promise rosy returns or become the biggest blockbuster of the year.

We do need such daring individuals and especially such women who can chart a different course and make a difference in their own manner. This would definitely give inspiration to millions of her fans and young girls to have dreams and the belief that being an actress is not only looking good and glamorous, but it also means having brain and talent to do something unconventional.

Really hope her new venture, which is releasing next week, succeeds so she can give her support to more of such really ‘different’ projects and give us some meaningful entertainment!

We Indians love food!

Period!

We all love our daily morning Paranthas with butter or the Theplas or Idli-dosas and no matter how many times we have cooked it, a new person will always be around to tell us a new way of cooking the same dish. In such a scenario, it is not a surprise that another cookery show has been launched to cater to our taste buds and it is with a big twist!

Yes, we are talking about the new show on Colors, Farah Ki Daawat hosted by, as the name suggests, Farah Khan. This lady has been a choreographer, director, anchor, wife, mother and what not! There can be doubts about her talent in various roles she plays, but one thing is for sure that she is hugely talented and like a chameleon blends in with her environment and makes it her home.

Cookery shows normally talk about different recipes, but to find out the favourite dish of your favourite celebrity, from his own mouth and even learn how to make it is any fan’s dream come true. The basic concept of getting big Bollywood stars like Abhishek Bachchan, Shahrukh Khan, Alia Bhatt, Karan Johar etc to share their culinary skills with their fans is a novel idea and never been attempted before in the country. It is obvious the curiosity factor will make the sure a hit, at least in the beginning.

The first episode had Abhishek Bachchan sharing his views about food, his likes and dislikes and to watch him cook a dish would have been a treat for his fans.

Obviously there were a bit of hiccups as far as comfort and ease is concerned since it is not a talk show where they just sit and blabber about everything under the sun and the audience still finds it exciting to find these celebrities share their personal bits. To maintain audience’s interest even when you are chopping a vegetable or stirring something on the pot requires some skills. Won’t say that Abhishek failed, but there is room for improvement. May be other celebs will be more comfortable and smooth in their cooking-act!

As far as host Farah is concerned, she has proved her mettle as a judge on various shows and also recently hosted Bigg Boss Hall Bol. Her gift of the gab helps her to find way out of any tricky situation and bindaas attitude relates with the common man. No wonder, she is becoming a regular face on TV for all the big reality shows!

Whoa! Hope you guys didn’t fall off your chairs or beds or wherever you are, after reading this potential breaking news!

Well, it is indeed a potential breaking news, with a very high expectancy of coming true, soon, really very soon!

After all, the way the latest controversy about Shahrukh Khan and musician duo Vishal-Shekhar is playing out in the media, it is no wonder then that the next time SRK decides to buy a new pair of underwear or discards his toilet paper (if he uses one in order to save water and be a good citizen!!), it will become hot news.

By now everyone knows that king of Bollywood has just ‘kicked out’ or ‘shown the door’ or ‘discarded’ Vishal-Shekhar and brought in Pritam for his next film with Rohit Shetty. Well, frankly the words used to describe the parting of ways are not respectful towards either of the parties.

Allow us to explain.

Firstly, Vishal-Shekhar are not newcomers or those music directors whose existence in Bollywood is only because of SRK. They have been around since 1999 and given music in more than 40 films, out of which only four movies are with Shahrukh. Hence, they deserve more respect than being shown as some small time music guys who depend on a big brand for their survival. And mind you, their music in practically every movie has been different, edgy, and stylish and has connected well with the youth of the country.

Secondly, Shahrukh himself is a creative guy who has been around for more than two decades and has worked with different kind of filmmakers, music directors, lyricists, choreographers, etc and is not known to stoop so low to go around kicking people out of his projects for his ego trips. Even if he did find the duo not up to the mark and had some differences, he has every right to select someone else. After all, we all can agree to disagree, right?

The point is this is a creative field and not just a place to make money. In creative endeavours, it is important that one works with as many different talents as possible. The resulting chemistry of two talented minds can create some wonders which are not possible if you keep working with the same set of brains in a comfort zone! Pritam has his own way of creating music and once his creative spark meets SRK’s, something new will be created. It might or might not work, but then it is true for any creative process.

We guess all these highly talented people should be left to do their jobs with the best of their capabilities. This unnecessary politics of who kicked out and why and what will be the repercussions can only lead to gossip without having any positive outcome.

Entertainment is really taking new wings in India!

As if it wasn’t enough to have so many New Television Channels In India, more and more are making their debut to provide us what they think would be more entertainment for us.

True, we Indians hardly have any outdoor facilities for a wholesome family entertainment except going to malls (that too in few select cities!!) or watching movies, but it doesn’t mean that we should be bombarded with hordes of TV channels in the name of entertainment trying to dish out same old stuff at the same timing, just with new packaging!

This time it is about Zee TV’s new offering ‘&TV’ getting launched on 2^nd March’15.

It was only recently that Zee had launched another channel, Zindagi showcasing Pakistani serials which definitely got some great reviews based on an engaging and realistic content in fictional space.

However, with &TV, it is entering the fiction show market with the kind of shows that we already see on other channels like Star Plus, Colors, Sony TV or Zee TV itself!

&TV is reportedly going to have four fictional shows to start off with namely, Begusarai, Razia Sultan, Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hai! and Badii Devrani. While Razia Sultan is a historical show like many other historical shows running across various Hindi and regional channels, Begusarai is based on feudalism based in Bihar and trying to bring a local flavor for the audience. Bhabhi Ji.. and Badii Devrani deals with social dramas in more or less a slice of life kind of way which sounds nice. However, none of these fictional shows are path-breaking or trying to give us something which isn’t already present on other channels.

Then what is the need for an entirely new channel? Is it because the shows have potential, but can’t replace other on-air shows? Or is the channel trying to hit the competition by having another fictional channel under its belt and divide the revenues?

Whatever be the reason, the only thing that matters is that as an audience member, you will have to remember another number on your remote for this channel and those paying for the channel packs, might have to shell out few extra bucks to try out this old recipe in new box! Who knows, this new dish might actually be tastier than what is being currently served!

By the way, to make sure that the new channel is a hit from the word go, they have roped in none other the King of Bollywood, Shahrukh Khan for a reality game show! Going by the track record of SRK’s hosting skills, it looks like a big gamble, but don’t write him off just yet; he might have some surprise up his sleeve!

We really wish that all these new channels do come up with something entertaining and out of box thinking so that we have a motivation to try out their shows for a change.

Or else, remote is still in our hands!
