I must admit that I have been reading a lot of cheesy stuff on the web, thanks to boredom. While I was website-hopping, I came across a thread on how the concept of ‘love at first sight’ is true for many youngsters…and here I was, thinking it to be the prerogative of a Bollywood hero. This really got me thinking, can love happen at first sight? If you find someone attractive when you first lay eyes on them, would you put it down as ‘attraction’ or ‘love’?  Isn’t love all about knowing someone, finding out their likes and dislikes and falling for them despite their peculiar ways?

Thanks to my father’s transferable job, I have friends all over the country and none…none has fallen in love at first sight. It has always been a tedious process of ‘meeting them, crushing on them, dating for a while and falling in love with them’. Despite my many crushes on film stars, authors and classmates, love has always been meant for someone I know well enough to spend the rest of my life with. And I have heard from a lot of people on how love is a feeling that has to take its gradual phase. It can’t be rushed or pushed. But then again, there have been incidents of people meeting someone and declaring to the whole world, ‘yeah, she’s the one!’ How does that happen?

Moreover, do these love stories last? It’s said that when you date somebody for how beautiful they look, you’re committing a mistake as looks fade with time. But if you have feelings for someone for what they are and how they make you feel about yourself, it lasts the test of time. If this is true, how are we to judge how the person is through one look alone? Growing up in a cosmopolitan family, I have seen many love stories culminate into successful marriages…and they are all stories of ‘how I realized I couldn’t live without her/him’ and not ‘I decided it was him/her the day he/she walked up to me’. Am I old school? May be. Do I want to know a person before falling head-over-heels? Absolutely. Does love happen at first sight? Hmm…not sure.

Just to get my head around this idea, I asked a few people about it. Revathi Sekhar, a homemaker, says, ‘love is pretty much a gradual process. You reach a point when you realize how empty life would be without this one person…’
Sukanya Ray, a diehard romantic at heart disagrees though, ‘sometimes, it takes just one look to decide if this person is meant to be with you or not. There is some sort of a connection…that can’t be explained, but it’s there’, she says.

Agreed that there’s not a lot of spare time to spend in office, but rather than just working and moving out, you could eat your lunch together, share a laugh, compliment your colleagues, if not regularly, at least once in a while, or exchange pleasantries for people to approach you without hesitation.

Be positive

There could be times when your work or opinion would be valued less than that of your contemporaries. Nevertheless, there is no better place to learn about optimism than in office environment. The more you encourage new ideas and accept changes, the better will be your rapo with fellow employees. Don’t you think?

You need not grovel when you mess up on a project, but at the same time playing the blame game would prove you right. All I have to say, is that the more you limit yourself and manifest your love for others, the more are you hindering the entry of authentic love in your life. Love yourself, open up to people around you and there it is- sheer romance in your life.

Every teen, who is sexually active in a relationship, worries about getting pregnant. Even if she doesn’t go all the way, there’s always the fear of unwanted pregnancy, thanks to our half-baked knowledge about our bodies.

Can I get pregnant with my clothes on?
If you’re only indulging in dry humping and both or you’re clothed (even if it’s just your underclothes), the chances of you getting pregnant are minimum to nil. It’s impossible to get pregnant if you’re wearing jeans and layers, but if your undies are sheer or of very think fabric, pregnancy is possible…but rare. What you need to understand is that the sperm survives in liquid state. That is, it requires the spermatic fluid or the vaginal fluid to survive and get deposited into your privates.

Is pregnancy possible when I am on my periods?
It’s possible, but a very rare one. Because women generally don’t ovulate during this time (some do, it depends on your body) as the ovulation starts two weeks from the start of your periods. But the chances of attracting STDs is higher when having sex during periods, so use proper protection during all four days.

How to know If I am pregnant?
The only way you can know is if you miss your periods. But that’s not always accurate. You could have missed your periods due to stress, change in weather, diet plans, work or family pressure and any number of other reasons. But if you want to be sure, it’s better to take a home pregnancy kit and wait for your chums. If you’ve not had intercourse, the chances of you getting pregnant (via precum, cum on things, stomach or vaginal entranace) are very low. So, stop worrying.

What to do if I am pregnant?
Even if you’ve taken a home pregnancy test that’s positive, check with your gynaecologist once. Some OTC pregnancy kits aren’t reliable. If your doctor confirms your pregnancy, you can check with her for pills if you want to terminate the pregnancy. If you hurry up, you might be able to do so via pills alone.

Are morning-after pills safe?
Morning-after pills or emergency contraceptives are safe, as long as you don’t make them a habit. If you take it because your condom broke or you forgot to use one, it’s safe. But it’s definitely not recommended for regular use, only for emergencies. It should be taken within 72 hours of the act. You might feel feverish, nauseous or even get mild headaches and cramps. Your next cycle will get affected too, but at least you’ll be able to avoid an unwanted pregnancy.

Please remember that these points are not gospel truths and that anything is possible…as our bodies are different and work in weird ways. Consult your doctor if you’re worried about getting pregnant or an elder before taking any action.
