Another anticipated celebrity marriage is off the hook and we can’t keep calm. While we have been spending every waking minute to see the Virat-Anushka duo tying the nuptial not, the day came yesterday when Anushka Sharma broke the news through her Instagram handle of marrying the man of her dreams, it became a stimulating fodder for the social media. The Sabyasachi bride looked dreamy in their Pale Pink Lehenga with Renaissance embroidery in vintage English colours embellished silver-gold metal thread, pearls and beads and Sabyasachi heritage Jewellery collection, whereas Virat Kohli successfully robbed us off our sleep in his Ivory Raw Silk Sherwani hand-embroidered in a vintage Benarasi pattern and signature house buttons with Rose Silk Kota Safa. The couple opted for a colour co-ordinated look and we are swooning over. From the ensembles to the décor, everything was pitch-perfect about the wedding just like their romantic journey towards the Jaimala.

The couple have been in denial for their potential marriage but it finally took place in a lush countryside resort named Borgo Finnochieto, which is one of the most expensive holiday properties in the world and is located in Italy. Barack and Michelle Obama stayed here earlier this year.

Along with the wedding photo that featured glittering smiles in their faces, Anushka wrote in her Instagram-“ Today we have promised each other to  be bound in love forever. This was a close-knit affair and the wedding was attended by only the family and friends of the duo. Virushka will host a reception in New Delhi for their relatives on 21^st December which will be followed by the Mumbai reception for cricketers on 26^th December.

Virat and Anushka first met in the ad shoot for a TV commercial in 2013 while Virat was striving to achieve a significant feat as a cricketer and Anushka also honing her acting skills to find feet in Bollywood.

Neither the duo accepted their affair nor did they ever try to hide it. But media sniffed a rat when they perennially made public appearances together.

The news of their affair was authenticated after Indian team’s arrival from the South Africa Tour in 2014 in Mumbai where Virat straight away headed to Anushka’s home and media got its meat.

Anushka was present in the stands during India vs Sri Lanka ODI in November 2014 and after heaping up runs, Virat tossed a flying kiss towards his lady love.

The duo was also spotted sitting together during IPL performance FC Goa co-owned by Virat Kohli. And their public appearances multiplied since then, raging from  Yuvraj Singh’s marriage to Zaheer Khan’s.

In another instance, when Shah Rukh Khan held a Swayamvar of sorts for Virat during the IPL Opening Ceremony, Virat turned crimson when Anusha’s picture popped up in the screen.

Things became crystal clear when Virat came to Anushka’s rescue as a good boyfriend when she was being accused for bringing bad luck to Virat’s life as in her presence India lost the semifinals to Australia during the ICC World Cup, 2015, there after the Twenty20 semifinal versus West Indies in Mumbai.

Their relationship went through some patchy times when Virat posted a picture captioning it as ‘Heartbroken’ in his Instagram handle but they came back on as Salman Khan allegedly played the intermediary and settled things between them.

Virat recently revealed that he nicknames Anushka as ‘Nushkie’ and that how she made him a better person being the honest as she is. That was complete adorbs!

Virat and Anushka successively posted their ‘together’ pictures in their social media handles leaving no room for speculations.

The first and foremost reason is Anushka’s acting assignments. No doubt that she is one of the top rated stars of the country and has been doing some of the most amazing projects, the latest one being Dil Dhadakne Do. However, what puzzles is how Virat would be taking in the kissing scenes and love-making scenes Anushka do so very often! Well, we are broad-minded and we do consider it as a part of her job and no big deal about it. But Virat is publicly known to be short-tempered and a typical dilli-walla munda! Is he taking it well?

Before they became a couple, it was not even an issue for Anushka to conduct her professional career the way she wanted to and even now, it should not be of anyone’s concern. However, what if during one of those long intimate scenes and rehearsals etc, she develops some feeling towards her co-actor? How difficult or impossible is that? Bollywood churns out almost 200 movies every year and hardly 8-10 movies are worth watching out of those. This year started on an average note and suddenly it seems to have picked up steam. Piku, Tanu Weds Manu Returns and now Dil Dhadakne Do! It is a treat to watch such movies, which are so different from each other and yet are total entertainers.

Even though there weren’t many expectations from Dil Dhahdkane Do and even after the release there are mixed reviews, there are certain things about the movie which make it a must watch. Mind you, there is more to the movie than just the voice-over of Aamir Khan for the family dog Pluto also acting as a kind of a narrator! Let’s have a look at the things which does make it a gem!

1) Message Oriented, But Not Preachy

Zoya Akhtar is known for making sensible movies that ordinarily make you think about life and world at large. This movie is no different given the fact that it touches so many subjects like family bonding, women empowerment, social status, hypocrisy etc, yet it never gets preachy about it. The writing of Zoya and her co-writer Reema Kagti is such that everything happens like a very matter of fact without making a whole issue out of things. Subtle, but impactful!

2) Mirror To The Society

Many people feel that, ‘oh this happens only in high society people, we are different’! This is a wrong assumption as the characters depicted in the film might be from the upper strata of society, their problems might also seem trivial, but what’s brewing beneath the surface, their insecurities, ego-tussles, emotional upheaval they go through is all human irrespective of their standing in the society! It is good to see how we are going on doing and saying the wrong things, without even realizing them!

3) Performances

It is a huge ensemble cast with some of the finest actors of our country. Even the supporting cast is exemplary, but what takes the cake is the performance by Anil Kapoor, Shefali Shah and Ranveer Singh! Anil shows yet again why he is such a freaking awesome actor and is still around after almost 30 years in showbiz! Shefali does selected work and what she has done shows the class of this actress. The shades, the layering, the talent to switch between contrasting and contradicting emotions within seconds are simply unbelievable. Ranveer is a revelation if you compare him with his previous work! It may look like a simple role from outside, but boy oh boy; the way he acts is stupendous! Apart from these, everyone else be it Anushka Sharma, Priyanka Chopra, Farhan Akhtar, Rahul Bose, Zarina Wahab or any other actor, they are aptly cast and give their best!

4) Galla Goodhiyaan

As such the music of the film isn’t that awesome, but this song has to be mentioned for the sheer talent of picturising it and for the way it has been performed. It is a good 3 minute song, yet none of the actors in the entire song has gone out of his/her character given the fact that it looks like being shot in one take with no cuts! It is as such very difficult to have such long scenes in one shot, but to have an entire song with the entire cast and supporting cast of the movie in one shot is surely a feat!

5) It is cinema!

For past few years, the biggest superstars of our country are serving cinema that questions ours or their IQ! Yet they gross Rs. 300-400 crore at the box office and after watching such movies, we all feel is it really some entertainment? However, Dil Dhadhakne Do is really a movie with a story, performance and entertainment value associated with movies. It is not a star-run flick with no heads and tails about a story!

If you haven’t watched it, do go for it! You’ll not repent spending those almost three hours in the darkness of a theatre, going away on a cruise and meeting your own life, somewhere there!

Going by the way that he is doing only one film a year and there is an ever growing chorus to cast him with younger looking heroines, may be a few years down the line he will be seen sharing screen space with Alia Bhatt or may be daughter of a current co-star!

Come on now, for how long does he have to act like a young chap just out of his teens? Better to grow up, act his age and do meaningful cinema and bring something new to the table. The above disclaimer holds true for both a man as well as a woman. The movie NH10 used this concept really well. Lot of times we see shots of cigarettes being lit just for the heck of it. They look force-fed. Eyebrows rise even more when a woman is shown smoking.

Anushka Sharma is shown to play a character who craves for a smoke. That isn’t unnatural. Cigarette here is used as a tool to bridge the gender gap in the negative light. This is very difficult to display as the question of promoting something negative pops up.

Well guns, knives and several stuffs shown in the film are dangerous, too. In any film, the characters play negative and positive roles, the plot in question may be dark or romantic or fairy tale, etc. Audiences are matured enough to understand the motive behind the roles and the cinematic usage.

Every cigarette lit has a deep intention behind it. For example *Spoiler Alert*, the last scene where she lights a smoke before killing the main villain, her sole purpose is to hurt the man’s ego. This is clearly seen with the expression and the frustration on the villain’s face.

Darshaan Kumaar plays the main villain who kills his own sister and her lover. The picture revolves around the honor killing case.

The famous incident of Manoj-Babli honour killing shocked the entire country. The killing was ordered by the ‘khap panchayat’ in Kaithal district (Haryana).

Places in Haryana where ‘khap panchayat’ pass their own diktats leading to severe punishments if not adhered had always been in news.

The film NH10 shows the entire mind set of people including the police in charge about such grave murder case. Anushka Sharma is a rebel fighting in her own city and gets caught in the extreme regressive society. She finds smoking as her outlet, her weapon against men.

Obviously to reveal that kind of a gory aspect the film would not aim to have a hunky-dory effect. Film noir is the most difficult to express and after a very long time the shots (no matter how dark) have very deep meaning.

Anushka Sharma smoking in NH10 – well, she wasn’t promoting cigarettes but like men even women can have bad addictions. Smoking isn’t a man’s birthright but if men can openly destroy their health flaunting the cigarette then why can’t women openly smoke?

Every player should ideally have no families, no friends and no attachments if you see the weird logic of girlfriends being distractions.

You might wonder what’s the big deal since it is considered to be a position to make millions and lead a luxury powerful life with people sweeping your feet and bending backwards to make you happy!

Interestingly, part of it is really true, but where the reality seeps in is that being a female producer in a male-dominated industry is really a very very big deal!

Despite talking about women empowerment and as Shahrukh Khan once claimed that all his movies will have female lead credits rolling in before male credits, the hard truth is that it is extremely tricky to be able to make a movie if you are a women. Right from the process of arranging funds, getting the right cast and crew, getting down to the dirty and highly tiring on-the-ground production process to finally getting your film released is a herculean task if it’s a female who is running the show. That is one of the reasons in the 100years of Indian cinema, we have heard of just a handful of female producers or directors. Most prominent names can be Pooja Bhatt who was like a pioneer and started her own production company to direct movies closer to her heart without giving in to the market forces. Another recent example is Zoya Akhtar who is making movies which she believes in and they are not run of the mill stuff!

The most differentiating thing for Anushka, though, is that unlike Pooja or Zoya, she comes with no film-background or a family that’s been here for decades. It becomes really commendable to be able to star as a lead actress and in such a short span of her career have guts to stick her neck out for a project which is not conventional in any manner. Her upcoming movie NH10 in which she is a co-producer and lead actress as well is a concept driven film and is far away from the run of the mill stuff! This is called being courageous and being bold enough to invest her hard earned money in a project which might not promise rosy returns or become the biggest blockbuster of the year.

We do need such daring individuals and especially such women who can chart a different course and make a difference in their own manner. This would definitely give inspiration to millions of her fans and young girls to have dreams and the belief that being an actress is not only looking good and glamorous, but it also means having brain and talent to do something unconventional.

Really hope her new venture, which is releasing next week, succeeds so she can give her support to more of such really ‘different’ projects and give us some meaningful entertainment!

There is no doubt that the NH10 Trailer is power packed and very intensely gory yet gripping.

Anushka Sharma’s glimpses are shockingly brilliant that would send tremors down your spine.

The question I want to put forth is that if it seriously intends to bring out the story on crime and talk about the uncivilized existence that still persist in our country or is it just another commercial blockbuster?

The film has scenes that are disturbing but after a long time I actually watched a film that clearly defines the dark in the negative aspect.

The presentation of the noir genre in a film was ambiguous in our Hindi movies. The lines between darkness and glamorizing beauty were blurred.

In cinemas especially Bollywood movies that we see there had always been an attempt to glorify misery – be it the attempt to titillate the gruesome crime scenes or stripping clothes for skin show.

Even films that celebrate and talk about a woman’s strength has in a way put other women down to make the movie commercially sellable. For example take the case of the film ‘Mardaani’ starring Rani Mukerji, there is a scene of the torture faced by young girls kidnapped for trafficking.

In that scene the skin show happened in the name of depiction of a crime scene.

The manner in which a message is conveyed becomes a very important point in the audio visual medium as a movie has a greater impact on mindsets. If a murder scene is glorified then the message comes across completely wrong.

In this trailer however the scenes and shots create a negative impact clearly making a statement that it is gruesome.

This demarcation between negative and positive, good and bad is seen in a trailer after a very long time.

The best part about the film is the scene where Anushka Sharma helplessly reminds a police about his duty. He acts indifferent, cut to the next shot where she is seen shouting ‘f**k you’. The juxtaposition of shots is superb and catchy.

Even though there is usage of slangs, they don’t look forced…they justify the depiction of the scene.

This NH10 Trailer gives a clear gory picture while representing the dark realities in our country.
