A really funny and heartwarming video of Ranveer introducing Sara to Karthik circulated over the internet for a few days which left the netizens gushing. Sara seemed to turn crimson as she was being introduced for the first time to her crush and Karthik seemed to be equally elated. The reason was obviously Sara for the sheer prettiness that she is. Ranveer was at his spirited best and everything else seemed to be spontaneous. In the video that was shot amidst the Simbaa promotions, showed that Ranveer greets Karthik and leads him to Sara while introducing him to her. He even made the two hold hands as well. Bollywood churns out almost 200 movies every year and hardly 8-10 movies are worth watching out of those. This year started on an average note and suddenly it seems to have picked up steam. Piku, Tanu Weds Manu Returns and now Dil Dhadakne Do! It is a treat to watch such movies, which are so different from each other and yet are total entertainers.

Even though there weren’t many expectations from Dil Dhahdkane Do and even after the release there are mixed reviews, there are certain things about the movie which make it a must watch. Mind you, there is more to the movie than just the voice-over of Aamir Khan for the family dog Pluto also acting as a kind of a narrator! Let’s have a look at the things which does make it a gem!

1) Message Oriented, But Not Preachy

Zoya Akhtar is known for making sensible movies that ordinarily make you think about life and world at large. This movie is no different given the fact that it touches so many subjects like family bonding, women empowerment, social status, hypocrisy etc, yet it never gets preachy about it. The writing of Zoya and her co-writer Reema Kagti is such that everything happens like a very matter of fact without making a whole issue out of things. Subtle, but impactful!

2) Mirror To The Society

Many people feel that, ‘oh this happens only in high society people, we are different’! This is a wrong assumption as the characters depicted in the film might be from the upper strata of society, their problems might also seem trivial, but what’s brewing beneath the surface, their insecurities, ego-tussles, emotional upheaval they go through is all human irrespective of their standing in the society! It is good to see how we are going on doing and saying the wrong things, without even realizing them!

3) Performances

It is a huge ensemble cast with some of the finest actors of our country. Even the supporting cast is exemplary, but what takes the cake is the performance by Anil Kapoor, Shefali Shah and Ranveer Singh! Anil shows yet again why he is such a freaking awesome actor and is still around after almost 30 years in showbiz! Shefali does selected work and what she has done shows the class of this actress. The shades, the layering, the talent to switch between contrasting and contradicting emotions within seconds are simply unbelievable. Ranveer is a revelation if you compare him with his previous work! It may look like a simple role from outside, but boy oh boy; the way he acts is stupendous! Apart from these, everyone else be it Anushka Sharma, Priyanka Chopra, Farhan Akhtar, Rahul Bose, Zarina Wahab or any other actor, they are aptly cast and give their best!

4) Galla Goodhiyaan

As such the music of the film isn’t that awesome, but this song has to be mentioned for the sheer talent of picturising it and for the way it has been performed. It is a good 3 minute song, yet none of the actors in the entire song has gone out of his/her character given the fact that it looks like being shot in one take with no cuts! It is as such very difficult to have such long scenes in one shot, but to have an entire song with the entire cast and supporting cast of the movie in one shot is surely a feat!

5) It is cinema!

For past few years, the biggest superstars of our country are serving cinema that questions ours or their IQ! Yet they gross Rs. 300-400 crore at the box office and after watching such movies, we all feel is it really some entertainment? However, Dil Dhadhakne Do is really a movie with a story, performance and entertainment value associated with movies. It is not a star-run flick with no heads and tails about a story!

If you haven’t watched it, do go for it! You’ll not repent spending those almost three hours in the darkness of a theatre, going away on a cruise and meeting your own life, somewhere there!

Give me a ticket and little savings; I want to fly out of this country. This is what my colleague said after hearing the news of FIR filed against Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone for a peck on the cheek.

Yes with the Valentine’s Day nearing, #KissOfLove is making headlines again as the duo was charged for a peck on the cheek on the sets of #AIBRoast. Under section 294, this is seen as ‘obscene act in public’. As per reports, the sub-inspector of the Maharashtra State Police, Wazir Sheikh was the one to file FIR against AIB Roast under various sections like ‘selling of pornography’, ‘obscene act in public’, etc.

Clearly this guy has never seen porn to define this as porn.

Forget meeting your boyfriend in public, what if you meet a friend or even your dad happens to give a quick gesture of love on your cheek in public, would there be a moral police brigade? Exactly where are we heading???

Imagine how embarrassing that is going to be if such gestures are considered obscene.

Personally I am not a fan of the AIB Roast. Simple reason being that I don’t relate to that format of comedy genre but that has got nothing to do with my ‘sanskriti’.

I won’t even talk about the issues that need serious attention and immediate resolve. On one hand where a Whatsapp video on a rape victim does the rounds for several months before it reaches a concerned citizen, people are busy filing FIRs against such silly things.

I won’t even get into that comparison but I would strictly limit this topic to understanding the mentality of people who define ‘Indian culture.’

AIB Roast was a piece of crap but that is my opinion. Every person is entitled to have an opinion but to force ‘your culture’ on a land that observes a vast cultural diversity is offensive.

If the country gets offended by every little gesture and silly things then very soon it is going to be governed by the self proclaimed godmen and the youth would soon run away from the so called ‘forced sanskriti.’

It is seriously damning to know how a peck on cheek or even if it was a kiss or a proper smooch can offend someone?

What is so offensive is what we really want to know as the definition of ‘being offended’ is starting to baffle the youth of this generation.

The issue of objectification of women is a highly debatable topic.

Skin show celebrating a woman’s figure has always been a matter of controversy and debate in the country.

What is wrong in showing a woman in a bikini?

For example, if a lingerie ad has to be depicted there is nothing wrong in showing the model sporting that product. But the controversy arises because the same skin show doesn’t happen when we talk about men.

Indian ad industry had brilliantly played with this stereotype and somewhere it is evident that we as society refrain from showing a guy taking his pants off.

Take this example of ad of MacroMan premium inners starring Hrithik Roshan; although he sports the vest but doesn’t take off his pants. What is so baffling to me is the skin show of the girl coming out of the pool towards the end of the ad.

Clearly the director didn’t have the guts to ask Hrithik to take off his pants or may be he said no. My point is, what was the need to show a bikini-clad woman in a product that is meant for men?

The Indian ad world is absurd. Even though the product is for men, women are undressed.

What do the genius creative heads producing such ads think? Stereotyping and limiting the skin show is what creates an imbalance and that gives rise to objectification of women.

Another ‘Jockey’ ad will make you wonder if the director had been equally sensitive had the model been a girl.

Why does all the thinking process happen when we are selling a male product? Of course there are models breaking the stereotypes, but still a large section of the ad world in our country refrain from going bold with male models.

The Manforce ads that Sunny Leone promotes would show her in a seductive, sexy avatar but aren’t these condoms supposed to be worn by men?

Ranveer Singh made headlines to be the first A-list actor in a condom ad (Durex). But even that had him properly covered dancing with several skimpily dressed women.

Aren’t we being a hypocrite as a society by covering our actors and exposing women?

It is no secret that the recently concluded AIB roast was a success. It was filthy and derogatory, but a massive accomplishment considering the society we live in.

However, it was only a matter of time since someone spoke against it. An FIR complaint has been filed against Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor and Karan Johar for using filthy language on the show.

The concept of roasting celebrities is new to India, but not overseas. Comedy Central, which is America’s basic cable and satellite television channel, has organised roasts in the past. The list of renowned celebrities, who have let themselves be roasted, includes the likes of Pamela Anderson, Bob Saget, Donald Trump and James Franco, to name a few.

This was India’s first ever celebrity roast and it had controversy written all over it even before it was shot.

The FIR was filed by Vinod Tawde, the Maharashtra culture minister, who also termed the AIB roast video uploaded on YouTube as “vulgar”.  FIR filed against AIB Show by him. History has been witness to coarseness and profanity uniting religious groups in India and this time it is no different. The Maharashtra Christian Youth Forum and the Brahmin Ekta Seva Sanstha have come together against this “filth”, too.

Yes, the show was derogatory; it was filthy. But that’s how it was supposed to be. The quips were full of sexual innuendos (‘sex insults’ would seem like an appropriate term); it had contents of racism, homophobia and misogyny. People, who saw the show, would agree that the jokes were more mean than funny.

But hey, everyone went home laughing their lungs out and holding no grudges, didn’t they?

The conservatives are bummed nonetheless and someone will have to pay the repercussions. ‘We do not like insult jokes’ seems like the message sent across AIB by the complainers.

Talking about repercussions, Bollywood appears as the victim, as the latest news comes from MNS saying they will not allow any movie release until Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor apologise. Seems like a political gimmick, yes?

Ameya Khopkar, President of Maharashtra Navnirman Chitrapat Sena, the film wing of the MNS, had his share of questions.

“What kind of message are we giving to the world outside? What if small children, who follow Ranveer and Arjun, watch this show? Will they not be spoiled after watching such shows?” he asked.

This show was nothing about sending a message to the outside world. It was created for entertainment purpose. Besides the show aired after Barack Obama’s visit to India and we are pretty sure he would have enjoyed it had he got a chance to watch it.
