Oh yes I forgot she needs to conceive and hence the rush.

Well motherhood is the most amazing thing ever but it is completely the wish and desire of an individual to be or not to be a mom.

Rushing and putting the peer pressure and constantly reminding a girl of her growing age is really not a very healthy practice and should be stopped.

The famous song ‘Kuch Toh Log Kahengey’ is so apt even in this generation. People seriously are so jobless that someone’s private life becomes their sole concern.

After a certain age if you are unmarried then attending a marriage function/ family gathering/ funeral…be it any occasion people somehow find some or the other unique way to start talking about your marriage.

The famous question comes, so what are you up to these days…when are you getting married???

You feel ughhh. The only way you avoid this question is either wear a smile or say soon you would inform them. The most cliché dialogue is to say that you are waiting for the right man.

Damn if you happen to say that dialogue then there is a serious consultation process where you would be grilled to death about there isn’t any right and wrong and you need to settle down immediately.

The kind of situations that an unmarried girl faces can be extreme. Marriages and family gatherings are the favorite spots where you would easily be the ‘bakra’ if you are unmarried.

There would be constant taunts, “tera number kab aayega.” Slightly older women would resort to “haay teri shaadi ke baad main chain se mar sakti hoon.”

It is baffling to me how a girl’s marriage is inversely proportional to someone’s life. Anyways when an elderly person uses this famous line of emotionally making you weak then you also play the emotional card and say that you don’t wish her death sooner and hence you are delaying the marriage.

Indian household is all about melodrama. You need to master the art of tickling the emoticons and you are set to tackle all your problems.

Sometimes apart from relatives you might even find your boss inquisitive about your marital status.

“By when do you plan to get married or are you going to marry soon?” These are very common trademark questions in any interview.

Politely ask the HR or whoever asks you this thing that if the job credentials require any specific household skill. Act baffled and shocked and revert asking the connection between the job profile and your marriage plans.

Your attitude will make it clear that you wish to draw a thick line between your personal and professional life and you won’t entertain such questions.

Sometimes random people also seem to take a very keen interest in your love affairs and marriage plans. Politely ask them, “Why do you want to know when I am getting married? Are you interested?”

If the person asking is a guy he will be intimidated by your bold attitude and would shut up. If the person is a girl she will freak out (assuming she is straight) and would simply avoid you.

Neighbors are the most concerned of all the people in your life if you are unmarried. Living next door to a poky neighbor can be extremely irritating.

Your lifestyle, friend circle, work, etc. everything seems to bother them if you are unmarried. Their sole concern in life would be to keep an eye on you and they do it so aptly that you can’t even directly be rude to them.

Invite them for a dinner or lunch and get your guy friends. Also there would be at least one such relative who would understand your plight. Call that relative too.

Now that would be fun. When the neighbor aunty/ uncle watch your relative completely cool about your lifestyle and your friends then it would be a face palm moment for him/ her.

If you thought that the breaks in office where people go for a smoke or a cup of tea/ coffee were insignificant then you are highly mistaken. These breaks are the most important part of the workplaces.

The kind of discussions that happen during these breaks hold very high significance as they are very dynamic in nature.

The discussions cover all spheres ranging from politics to the latest gadget.

The breaks help breaking the monotony of work and allow the minds to venture out in the space for a while.

Well the discussion might start with say previous night’s The Newshour debate about Arnab Goswami’s opinion…topic changes to say his way of saying ‘1 min’ and ‘1sec’.

Someone in the group might get nostalgic and reminisce how this trait of Arnab was very similar to a professor he had in college. When it is about college everyone would love to get nostalgic and the topic changes to ‘Puraani Jeans’ moments, Maggi being the staple diet of those days…

Food is one topic where the discussion can go on and on. So from Maggi the topic changes to what people got for lunch that day. Every office group has one such person whose dabba is a ‘sarvajanik’ (public) property.

Soon the tea or cigarette might just get over and it is time to get back to work. The eagerness of meeting again for thought-sharing moments is there in everyone’s minds.

Sometimes apart from heartfelt discussions breaks are also about brainstorming ideas. Conference rooms at times can get too claustrophobic and these breaks come as a great rescue to explore and ideate.

Some people like to isolate themselves during breaks and get into their pensive moods. Some look at these breaks as ‘time out of work’ and engage themselves in telephonic conversations with their husbands, families, friends, etc.

Well what can be the indirect way of saying it? Of course we all know about the codes – ‘the curse’, women’s problems, ‘that time of the month’, being low, etc.

Ever since a girl gets her first periods she is introduced to the practice of the deliberate attempt of euphemizing menstruation. Is it a crime to chum in India?

People openly commit grave crimes and even have the guts to film their crimes and Whatsapp the video but menstruation becomes a taboo.

This post isn’t about the taboo practices during menstruation. But I want to highlight the media depicting such practices.

In media other than the sanitary advertisements do we ever talk menstruation?

Even when we have a scene showing periods it is a hush hush affair.

For example the film ‘Jeans’ starring Aishwarya Rai Bachchan plays on the stereotype that during periods a girl can’t go to the temple, can’t get out of her home for a couple of days, etc.

These rituals had been a very important part of Hindu mythology. The rules and depiction of a woman menstruating is shown in this serial ‘Mahabharat’ (B.R. Chopra’s Mahabharat).

When the Pandavas along with Draupadi visit the Kauravas, she sits aloof in a room.

Sitting in a separate room during menstruation

When the character Dhritrashtra ask about her, his wife Gandhari exclaims that she would be coming in front of him only after 3 days. (During menstruation it is a common practice to not come in front of the male members of the family and stay aloof)

Menstrual topic in Mahabharat

Even the serial ‘Balika Vadhu’ that started with the concept of child marriage depicted the mannerisms of the household when a girl in the family starts chumming. As per some traditions in Rajasthan a girl is not even allowed to enter the kitchen during her chums.

Balika Vadhu

Since the girl doesn’t know of this she obviously panics at the sight of blood. It is extremely important that the topic is discussed with the girl beforehand. A healthy discussion is very essential.

In some cultures the first periods is celebrated to mark the occasion. This is shown in the Marathi film ‘Kaksparsh’ when the child bride gets her first periods.

When the child bride gets her first periods

On one hand where we aren’t even open to talk about this topic, we have customs celebrating this phase of a woman’s life.

If you thought menstruation myths were only restricted to India then it will shock you to know the kind of thought process involved with respect to menstruation globally.

In a 1991 Japanese film, ‘Only Yesterday’, a girl is shown to be menstruating and is teased by a bunch of guys. These guys tell others to not touch the ball she had touched saying “You will catch her period.”

Yes like we have to deal with ‘don’t touch the pickle’ there is even a concept of ‘don’t touch the ball’.

Menstruation is either looked as a misery or some subject of ridicule. The media (except the sanitary ads) hasn’t really made the efforts to create awareness about this topic.

Even now there are many households where the girl tends to shy away watching an ad of sanitary napkin with the male members of the family.

Not restricting only to India this topic needs a strong worldwide awareness instead of just a taboo.

It is mostly expected that if you are a man then you need to possess some supreme skill of never experiencing pain.

No matter what the situation is, a man is considered to be tough and capable of handling the pain without shedding any tears.

Our country has very distinctly separated and restricted some habits on the basis of gender. If you are a man then you are not supposed to cry but don’t men get emotional?

They do but they don’t express in public.

A man who seems to be jolly good all the time is hiding his deep emotional side within. Why do men hide? Well because the society is structured in a way that emotions are looked at as a sign of weakness.

They feel the pain but choose to cry alone. It also becomes a sign of ridicule when a man cries in public. I mean won’t you find it unusual? Have you ever seen a man crying his heart out in public?

Yes we have seen our heroes crying in movies but there is more fascination for men in action.

So when a man gets emotional what does he do? There are certain traits that the strongest of men indulge into for expressing their emotions.

They cry alone. They appear to be tough on the outside but there are times when you would find guys cutting all ties and being aloof. They would tell you they are busy but the reality would be that they are lonely and upset.

They would go for a long drive or might even plan a trip to a far off place say Ladakh. Adventures and treks or may be even long drives or bike rides serve the biggest outlet and most of the ‘tough men’ resort to this option. Traveling alone is their favorite way to live with their emotions.

travel alone

They hit a bar. Calling some other guys and getting sloshed is the usual way of relieving emotions.

Men and emotions

They have sex. This is another option that men adopt to let out their emotions. They relieve the emotions this way.

Instead if a man is mard enough to cry and accept their emotions won’t it be much easier?

‘The typical Indian men’ as these kinds of people are often referred to appear everywhere in our daily lives. The patriarchal societies we live in have strict rules and roles assigned for “women”.

We struggle to fight for our rights at home and in the society. We ask for the acceptance and tolerance from the society to let us be. But we would get the rule book everywhere with preachers enlightening about the code of conduct.

You thought a porn star was an exception?

Wrong. The craving is there for the porn star but when the matter is about acceptance then even Sunny Leone isn’t barred from the rules that dictate every woman in the country.

Check out this video of Sunny Leone…and pay special importance to the lyrics.

So even if people like the sexy moves of ‘Baby Doll’ when it comes to personal acceptance these guys would like to cover up their dolls.

This artist Girik Aman is no different than Honey Singh handing the rule book to girls about the way they like. Oh yes, it is important to know that they are describing their likes of girls.

These men have a specific combination of the “type” of girl…like the way he says in this video “saree wali girl.”

Although they had once gone crazy about the image of ‘Baby Doll’ but there is a tendency of draping her their way.

So if the bombshell Sunny Leone has to choose a desi munda she has to cover up first although she stole the hearts of several desi guys.

The very same guys whose jaws drop at the sex appeal of Sunny Leone will take a complete U-turn if they happen to date her or marry her.

The lyrics has typical mentality of the stereotypes we meet in our lives. Hear the line where he talks about changing her image.

These men love the body show but when the girl is their girl then she has to follow the desi diktat.

The word baabu moshai instantly adds few years to the guy’s life. Imagine a guy in his early 20s being called a ‘babu moshai’; poor fellow, no doubt the actors of yore used to wear dhotis and go to colleges but the trend has changed now.

The mere utterance of ‘babu moshai’ gives an uncle effect to the image of the guy.

All Bengali guys are mammas boys. Well why only targeting the Bengalis?

You don’t necessarily have to be born to a Bengali mother to be specially attached to her. It is not about being a Bengali. On a very general note it is said that guys are more close to their moms as girls are attached to their fathers.

Yes so you would find the mamma’s boys in other communities as well as you would find them here.

Not everyone would be interested in football.

Films like ‘Vicky Donor’ had beautifully explored the concept of stereotyped Bengalis and Punjabis.

If you fall in love with a Bengali girl then it is not necessary that you would be grilled on football and fish. Unlike the above scene you might find a Bengali family where the father of the girl would be completely ignorant about football.

Music isn’t the only other alternative for Bengali guys.

They might not be interested in sports or even music. Not every Bengali household has a tanpura placed. There are interests other than music and sports that Bengali men are capable of pursuing. For example they might be interested in something like hair styling or gardening.

Not every Bengali guy has a ‘daak naam’

The concept of ‘daak naam’ (nickname) is very common in Bengali families. (Our President Pranab Mukherjee’s nickname was reported to be ‘Poltu’)

Although we have cases like these but seriously it isn’t a hard and fast rule that a Bengali guy would necessarily have a funny nickname.

Myths about Bengali men can be many but finally I would like to point a very important notion about the Bengali men that they are intelligent, good men.

Seriously? Whenever we talk about a Bengali man we stereotype him to be of a very high intellectual caliber but you never know. He might just turn out to be really dumb.

And about being good… well… cough cough… men and good??

Do let us know if you find one.

Bejan Daruwalla keeps predicting and some may be completely untrue but we still indulge in the reading of these things.

It might be for fun sake or just out of curiosity, the sun signs keep intriguing us to read and explore more about our personalities. Articles have over the generations evolved from just predictions to a lot of other factors.

For example there was a recent article on the comparison of hair style to sun sign.

So like if you are a Scorpion girl you apparently have post sex hair style.

I have absolutely no idea what that meant but I do remember reading the entire article with a bunch of friends and laughing over it. Some happened to be true though.

It is also about the testing factor…like we are intrigued to find out if the prediction or trait matches with that of ours.

Take the example of love compatibility tests based on sun signs. People indulge in testing if the sun sign of their loved ones is compatible with that of their own sign.

We have many sites saying Virgo is best compatible with Taurus and Capricorn.

Imagine a Virgo woman dating a Sagittarian and wants to know what the compatibility is. There are sites that suggest these two sun signs share the worst compatibility but there are also readings that suggest this combination is out-of-the-box and might make a great pair.

Yes there isn’t any hard and fast rule of compatibility but we would only be lying if we say we wouldn’t be delighted to find the sun sign of our partner in the best compatibility test.

Horoscopes of superstars are equally fascinating. You tend to find the similarity between your character and that of Amitabh Bachchan if you happen to be a Libran.

The horoscope business is one such thing that doesn’t have to worry at all as it will always continue to feature in the daily newspapers or magazines.

Disclaimer: Youngisthan.in do not intend to criticize or hurt any religious sentiments. This post is informative and the opinions are that of the writer.

Sokushinbutsu: This ritual is no longer in practice but in the 11th and 19th century, the Biddist monks in Northern Japan practiced this process of austerity till death or mummification.

Buddhist mummies were referred to as the ‘Bodhisatvas’ i.e. deliberately not allowing the body to decompose. It is a belief that the Buddhist monk was able to mortify his flesh and hence even after death the body was still deliberately kept.

The practice of austerity till death was not suicide for the Buddhists at that time. Today none of the Buddhists follow this practice and it is banned in Japan.

Well that was Japan but India is known for carrying harsh rituals in the name of traditions.

Whatever is the name the practice is very drastic and more shocking is the fact that it still prevails in our country.

In this ritual the person fasts till death. It is in Jainism.

As per reports every year on an average 240 Jains fast till death in our country.

What suicide???

Hell no…this according to them is the way of burning karma.

Who is allowed to undergo this process?

Physically fit person is not allowed. Here more importance is given to the mental stature than physical being. You may be suffering from a terminal disease but if you are mentally prepared to sacrifice all the worldly pleasures then you would be allowed to perform this process.

Prayopavesa:

This is again a similar practice of fasting till death in Hinduism.

November 2001:

Satguru Sivaya Subramaniyaswami had subjected himself to ‘Prayopavesa’. He died on the 32nd day of his fast.

Please note I am not speaking against any religion or do not intend to hurt any sentiments. I am just raising some genuine concerns.

In a country where ‘Eutheneia’ is debated these practices go on in the name of religion…are we deliberately being blind?

Is there any science behind such practice?

There was a time when even ‘Sati practice’ was carried out in the form of a ritual. Today that practice doesn’t exist anymore.

It is high time rational thinking takes the center stage.

Stereotypes attached to Bengali women, thanks to our Bollywood industry are so strong that if you do not fall in that “bracket” then you are considered #PseudoBong

I have often heard people saying, “You don’t look like a Bong”.

People have a specific image of Bengalis especially Bengali women. As if they are expecting them to look like Aishwarya in Devdas.

I mean is it written in some invisible script that the girl is a Bengali?

Listing some stereotypes about Bengali women:

Not every Bengali girl’s name is ‘Mishti’

Seriously just because we have a ‘daak naam’ (nick name) and are highly associated to sweets doesn’t mean that our name or nick name would be ‘Mishti’.

Even if the girl’s nature might be sweet still how does it imply that her name is ‘Mishti’?

People say it with so much confidence as if they were present during the naming ceremony. Even if they have to address some would just directly address saying, “that Bengali chick…Mishti something her name might be…” I mean seriously it astonishes me to understand the level of confidence with which they just presume the name to be “Mishti”.

Not every Bengali girl is from Kolkata or has her hometown in #Kolkata.

This is one question all the Bengali girls having roots in NorthEast are tired of explaining.

Guys please go back to your History books. During partition lot of Bengalis from Bangladesh migrated to India and vice versa. NorthEastern states like Assam, Tripura, etc. have lot of Bengalis.

It is quite a possibility that the Bengali girl in front of you might have her roots in NorthEast

Plus it is India and Bengalis don’t necessarily have to be confined to Kolkata

Not every Bengali girl has big eyes

All those guys who have their dreamy picture of an ideal Bengali girl…

Now that is again a big assumption of the Bengali girl they have in their minds. Well not every Bengali girl has big eyes and eyelashes.

Saying this, small eyes don’t really make a girl less beautiful either.

Not every Bengali girl likes fish and sweets

If you are planning to ask a Bengali girl on a date you need to do your homework about her tastes like you would do for every other girl.

Just because she is Bong doesn’t mean you assume she would be interested in the big elish maach you are planning to order in dinner.

She might even turn out to be a vegetarian.

Or what if she likes bitter gourd and hates sweets? Your entire basket full of pastries that you got assuming she would be a sweet lover would just go waste.

Bengalis are not some species who could be classified and defined.

Although mostly we find Bengalis calling others Non-Bengalis…a demarcation that I heard only in this linguistic group.

No wonder the so called #NonBengalis make presumptions about them.

There are several guidelines about the code of conduct while presenting and giving your best shot in an interview.

I would like to highlight the other side of the coin.

I remember during my placements I was given series of lectures starting from the dress code to maintaining eye contact to the posture of sitting, blah blah blah…

Problem is there is no fixed rule of what really clicks.

If I dressed formal my boss turned out in boxers (alright that is a bit of an exaggeration but you get my point).

In an interview it is easy to make a judgement about the candidate. But most often people who conduct interviews forget that even they are equally being judged.

Just because you are on the other side of the table doesn’t mean the candidate isn’t noticing your code of conduct. It’s a different case that you are not informed as no candidate would dare to call a spade a spade.

So let me list some sample cases of interviews where the interviewer makes a fool of himself/ herself:

Calling the candidates for an interview and making them wait for hours. I have no idea if this is some sort of a style statement to make people wait.

Yes the company has loads of work and you are a busy person then why don’t you schedule the interview to some other time…someone coming for a job isn’t really so jobless in life.

“So are you married or planning to get married?” Seriously, quit the job and join a matrimonial company. How is someone’s marital status of any relevance to the person’s skillset or expertise?

Oh yes I see many interviewers speaking in defence that the relevance is what if the person joins the company and then gets married and quits.

Quitting and firing is a part and parcel of a job scenario. People don’t quit only because of marriage. There are various reasons like better job prospects or career development, higher studies, office politics, etc.

Whatever is the reason, marriage is an extremely personal matter and it is stupid to base your selection process on someone’s marriage plans.

The kind of questions a person asks reveals a lot about his personality.

If you are asking something dumb like if a person smokes or not then immediately the candidate is taking a mental note of your relevance level. Your irrelevant questions become a give-away for you not being considered seriously.

Make the right eye contact. Especially while interviewing a female candidate please don’t check her out.

Just because you are conducting the interview doesn’t mean you can use the ‘F’ letter word after every sentence. Even if it’s a gesture, at least let it sound normal and not forced.

Trust me it doesn’t sound cool when you deliberately use the word more than usual. You are making a fool of yourself.

Next time you are taking an interview stick to the relevant questions and watch out for your code of conduct. You never know if you might suddenly bump on the person you had interviewed, in a situation where his/ her judgement matters.

The film based on the life of #Jayalalithaa who was the #ChiefMinisterOfTamilNadu would have #PriyankaChopra as per the latest buzz donning her character showing her career paving from acting to politics.

Politics seems to be the new trend in #Bollywood with many actors playing the role of a politician. But political roles were played by leading actors in the industry since long.

Let us have a look at some actors who played politicians:

Film: Aandhi (1975)

Character portrayed by #SuchitraSen had immense resemblance to the then-Prime Minister #IndiraGandhi.

It was directed by #Gulzar. The film was alleged to be based of the then #PMOfIndia and her relationship with her estranged husband.

Film: Godmother (1999)

#ShabanaAzmi played the role of #Godmother that was inspired by the life of #SantokbenJadeja.

She was known to lead the mafia operations in #Porbandar. She was popularly known as #Godmother and later turned a politician.

Check out #ShabanaAzmi playing the role of a mafia kingpin turned politician.

She was again seen playing for the ‘seat’ in #MatruKiBijleeKaMandola (2013)

The film starring #AnushkaSharma and #ImranKhan was a political satire directed by #VishalBhardwaj

Film: Sarkar

Character of #AmitabhBachchan was reported to be highly inspired by the Late #ShivSena icon #BalThackeray

Film: Satta

#RaveenaTandon played the role of a simple housewife turned politician.

Film: Paa (2009)

This film directed by #RBalki has #AbhishekBachchan playing the role of a young politician.

Film: Rajneeti and Satyagraha saw epic casting into political roles:

Both the films were directed by #PrakashJha. Clearly he made politics the latest trend and genre in the industry.

Eagerly waiting to watch if Madhur Bhandarkar’s upcoming film #MadamJee would be a striking feature displaying the scenario of #IndianPolitics.

Also #PriyankaChopra playing the character of #Jayalalithaa would add to the versatility of the multiple roles played by this actress.

There is always a thin line between following your passion as profession and taking up a profession for the sake of passion. The lines get blurred mostly in the latter case especially if you are a celebrity.

It is hard to say no to the kind of tempting offers the celebs get.

Being a celebrity is also a moral responsibility. Now morals and ethics are highly subjective. What is a casual thing for someone may be a huge moral dilemma for someone else.

It is important that one follows his/ her beliefs because at the end of the day your beliefs and your stance to uphold them will truly talk about your personality. Better said than done, we know of the difficult compromises one has to make to achieve success.

The ability to stand by what you believe and work towards your passion is supremely difficult but highly remarkable.

That is what truly distinguishes a person.

Examples of some celebrities who refused to give up on their principles:

The first name that comes to my mind is Sachin Tendulkar. Apart from breaking several records on field the master blaster is also known for his personality off field.

Reports of Sachin turning down a whopping Rs.20cr offer to endorse a top liquor brand had made headlines.

He had taken an oath of never endorsing cigarettes or liquor products. To keep up to that promise and letting that temptation go earned him a lot of respect.

It wasn’t even a direct association; the endorsement was a surrogate one yet Sachin refused.

Talking of sticking to one’s beliefs Hashim Amla – the South African legendary cricketer refused to even wear the logo of the liquor brand from his team jersey as it was against his religion.

On the same religious beliefs Parvez Rasool – Jammu and Kashmir all-rounder refused to sport the logo on his Pune Warriors team jersey once he got to know that the logo was of a liquor brand.

Bollywood actresses are not far behind with respect to standing by their beliefs.

Kangana Ranaut is reported to turn down apparently an offer worth Rs.2 crores to endorse a fairness cream.

She believes that being dusky is also beautiful and fairness doesn’t necessarily have to be the definition of beauty.

Bipasha Basu refused to smoke a cigarette or even hold it for her forthcoming film, ‘Pankh’.

She is reported to take a similar stand previously as well in the film ‘Corporate’. However she maintains that if the role really demands then she would do whatever the character takes but in these cases she felt the scenes could be shot without endorsing the products.

Hence she did not give in to the director’s demand. She is also known for not smoking and drinking in real life.

Well the habits can be debated but the ability to stand by what one believes truly earns respect for the above stars.

People react according to the sentiments and immediately connect to the situation.

The new Tanishq ad showing the mother-son bond is one such example of the emotional connect it makes with the viewers.

The ad conceptualised by Lowe Lintas and Partners redefines the meaning of gifts. Generally gifts are measured by the size and price but this ad breaks the general concept of the ‘perfect gift’.

The ad shows the son hesitating a bit as his mother holds up a big neck piece in front of him given by his father. Nonetheless he shows his small neck piece that he got for her from the Diwali bonus that he received.

That very instant the ad touches our hearts and we realise the power of the bond that goes deeper than the size of the gift.

Another Tanishq ad conceived by Lowe Lintas and Partners – ‘A Wedding to Remember’ challenges the social norms and stereotype attached to marriages.

In this ad we see a bride getting ready and there is a small girl with her. As the ad film progresses we realise that the girl is the daughter of the bride. The display of the bond has a deeper meaning to a stereotype idea of a marriage.

This idea of challenging our general outlook towards a certain situation makes an instant connect.

The new Nescafe ad is a perfect example showing a stand-up comedian stammering to crack a joke. The idea of using a weakness to one’s advantage immediately changes our perception.

The stand-up comedian has a stammering problem but he uses that as his strength and turns the situation around him. The best line in the ad is when he says “Time lagta hain bu…bu…bu…buffering main”.

We relate to this character as we all are imperfect in some way or the other.

All the above emotional ads attempt either at breaking a stereotype or the norm or the perception.

Next is this Google search engine ad that breaks the distance created by partition. Two friends who were separated in partition meet after years.

A girl after hearing stories from her grandfather about his friend in Pakistan decides to unite them. She finds out his whereabouts thanks to Google search and the two friends meet after ages.

There are also innovative ideas used by some ads to display emotions.

The Lifebuoy ad of ‘Help a child reach 5’ campaign made the emotional connect in a very creative way.

At the start of the ad one would wonder why a man is walking, his whole body balanced in his hands and the entire village is supporting him. He reaches the temple and then it is revealed that the entire act was because his child turned 5yrs.

The onlooker in the ad questions about the big deal. It is then we know that it is indeed a big thing as this is his only child who managed to reach 5yrs.

Our hearts connect to the joy of the villagers and the man.

The stats come in the end that every year 2 million children under the age of 5 die of infections like diarrhoea and pneumonia.

Stirring up emotions is quite difficult as it is important to sound genuine and the concept needs to click.

The subtlety by which emotions are conveyed in some ads can leave a huge impact in our minds.

Over the past years we saw the recession problem draining this country off its skill opportunities.

In fact a big reason for Modi’s victory was a large number of educated yet unemployed youth wanted the change.

We have post graduates, skilled youth who are still finding it hard to get a job.

Cost cutting and layoffs happening in the companies, recruitment seems like a far-fetched reality.

The graduates are skilled and qualified but not experienced and hence it is the best way to employ them and give them the exposure in the internship process.

But is this some sort of process where you get skilled work for free?

Are the internships actually learning processes or are they some sort of exploitation processes?

Yes it is exploitation when work is free or for peanuts. Companies think they are doing a huge favour by giving exposure and internships.

The freshers also work double the amount in the hope of a permanent selection and think of the exposure as some sort of a career scope.

Some companies even make their interns take Xerox copies, deliver hard drives and pen drives or sometimes even make them serve water.

Please understand am not belittling the act of serving water. The profile needs to suit. If the internship is for the house keeping section then fine but if someone joins as an intern in a profile that requires writing or organizational skills then it really doesn’t make sense.

The interns won’t complain as they need to maintain the good image but this need to stop.

It is high time the companies stop acting as per their whims and fancies and take the interns seriously.

The interns are supposed to maintain a low profile and blindly follow the orders from boss but who keeps a tab on the companies?

Cost cutting doesn’t really give any company the right to exploit any fresher. Free work is a big ‘no no’ and any company that empowers freshers for free work should be blacklisted.

The work hours and the profile of the interns should be clearly drafted and the process needs to be more transparent.

Who keeps a tab on the companies on how they are treating their interns? Proper record should be maintained on the growth of interns in a company.

At times we just want to unfriend some people from our lists because of their depressing statuses.

It has become almost a ritual now to update status giving accounts of our lifestyle, moods, ventures, outing, etc.

There are few updates that should seriously be avoided.

Death updates:

Recently there were reports on a man who took selfie with his deceased uncle and shared the picture on social media.

This one is probably the weirdest kind of update that I had come across. Unless your loved one is a big personality or a celebrity, you really don’t have to put the death update of that person on Facebook. Seriously I want to understand the psyche of people putting such updates on social media.

Moreover some people even put up funeral images…I mean, seriously???

death update

Religious updates:

To follow your faith is great but a regular update on the same is just a bit too much. Imagine the plight of the friends in your list who follow or don’t follow your faith. It gets very irritating to read extremely strong religious views regularly on the news feed.

Moreover religion is a subject that should be avoided as it gets controversial. Your faith might preach an ideology that would be a complete contrast to a different ideology. Don’t touch religion as it tends to get offensive.

religious

Gross ailing updates:

Sometimes I see people updating about their diseases. The updates range from a picture from the hospital bed to gross close up pictures of the severe wounds, etc.

Selfies (Extreme close up pics):

Unless you are very photogenic please avoid putting up extreme close up pictures of your face. Some people are so self-obsessed that there would be close up of their eyes, lips, etc. Take honest opinion from your friends about a selfie you want to upload and then only upload it.

Marriage Updates

A vivaah isn’t sampann unless pictures are uploaded on Facebook.

Although it has become a ritual these days but seriously it is quite irritating for others. Every morning we log in and the first thing to pop up on our news feed is a marriage update with pictures of rituals flashing all over.

marriedupdate

This is one trend that seriously needs to get a halt or else very soon Facebook would become Shaadi.com

Rape is a crime while sex is an act of pleasure.

Rape:

Before even talking about this gruesome crime we need to discuss sex. Yes for some weird reason rape and sex are mixed topics in our country.

Sex is considered a taboo. People aren’t educated about sex properly.

Sex needs to be seen and discussed beyond safety issues and rape.

Sexual needs aren’t discussed and embraced openly. Hence we remain ignorant.

Previously when I posted an article on sex it was purely aimed at initiating and broadening people’s mindsets about topics like pre-marital sex and live-in relations but all the comments on that post were only talking about rape.

Yes not denying that rape happens and even false allegations happen.

But when someone is talking about sex, why do we tend to link it with rape? The act of making love is either a taboo or a crime.

Why can’t it be seen as a beautiful pleasurable experience that two adults indulge in?

Bollywood industry also somehow used sex as a tool to depict gruesome crime scenes. People didn’t have access to sex so these scenes became their only way of exposure. Crime scene became a mode of entertainment and was used as a tool to titillate the audience. It worked because we didn’t get to see sex otherwise.

Quite amusing censor boards never encouraged sex scenes but it was all right to show gruesome rape scenes. We all remember the famous rapists Ranjeet, Shakti Kapoor, etc. the list is endless.

Skin show only meant by tearing girl’s clothes. So when a girl chose to wear a bikini it was assumed she is asking for it.

In real life our society deprived us from sex and hence reel life crime scene became the only outlet of emotions.

Somehow we all are highly baffled about rape and sex. Rape talks seem to be the only way we talk about sex. But intercourse and physical intimacy can happen without force also.

It is very important to have a proper understanding of sex firstly, have discussions about physical intimacy, broaden outlook about such subjects.

It is important to have the discussion of intercourse without linking it with rape, safety issues, torture, etc. The demarcation between the two topics is somehow so blurred that people just can’t imagine the act of sex as a pure sensual topic of discussion.

When we talk of tying the knot we talk about ‘saat janam ka vaada’ (Promise to be together for 7 lives)

Marriage means a lot more than just a function for a girl in India. Every girl is brought up in a society where she is protected by her father, brother, guy friends, neighbours and finally she is handed over to the person she ties the knot with.

A girl is supposed to be considered to be the most treasured person who needs to be handed over to the person she gets married to and that is the end of responsibility.

In this song ‘Babul’ from the 1994 movie ‘Hum Aapke Hain Kaun’ this emotional war that goes through during the time of ‘Bidaai’ (when the girl goes away with her husband) is explored.

The custom of protecting is beautiful but if that becomes a way to exploit and supress women then there is a huge problem.

Over the years the meaning of marriage got corrupted and the entire custom has become a big compromise.

More like a certificate from parents to sleep with a partner. The rituals that were made purely to celebrate the eternal knot have turned to some creepy and gross practices turning the society regressive. We even have cases of forced marriages in our country.

Nonetheless #Bollywood is in our hearts and some #MarriageSongs explore the dilemma and the contrasting aspects of Indian marriages.

On one hand they show us the glossy, beautiful picture but there is a subtle depressing factor attached.

I would want to give this perfect example of a song ‘Mehndi Hain Rachnewali’ from the film ‘Zubeidaa’ (2001) blending all the emotional factors a girl goes through during her marriage.

This one is more of a compromising factor and you see the underlying tension with respect to marriage that almost all girls go through in India. See how the beautiful rituals are blended as per the wish of the parents.

The lyrics are so amazing describing the girl, the free spirited energy lying underneath and how her entire household is celebrating the most important occasion of her life.

This is beautiful only if the occasion is a happier one even for the bride to be.

A classic case exploring this dilemma of the girl is this song from the famous movie DDLJ (Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge) where everyone is celebrating the girl’s marriage while she is performing all those rituals for the guy she loves in the hope their love would succeed.

How can we forget the most gorgeous actress who looks stunning in the #IndianMarriage

I am talking of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The below video is from the film ‘Jodha Akbar’ where the director explores the rituals and customs of marriage in both the religions – Hindus & Muslims.

Again you could sense the discomfort in the bride’s eye.

Marriage is the most treasured and sacred experience in any girl’s life. The ideal marriage obviously involves the ideal partner where it is with mutual consent.

More than the society celebrating the occasion it is important that the two people who are tying the knot is celebrating and are supremely happy.

The universe can be a witness to the beautiful union.

Hence let me end the post with this amazing video that would take you to that blissful world where marriages are made in heavan.

Song: Taare hain baarati from the movie Virasat.

It is about those famous dialogues or trademark dance steps. It can’t be defined in a sentence.

It is about the illusionary world or the high level melodrama, some break the rules and come up with realistic cinema, whatever the case may be Bollywood is surely an industry that has gripped the entire country.

Weekend post for some of the cheesiest dialogues that we witnessed only in Bollywood:

Film ‘One 2 Ka 4’

SRK sneaks into Juhi’s room and she freaks out.

Dialogue: Thand lag rahi thi toh garmi lene mere paas aa gaye?

Ye tumhara sanskar hain ya maruti car hain?

Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani

When Katrina Kaif asks Ranbir Kapoor if he would be her dance partner, his friends react:

Dialogue: Usne tujhe dance partner banaya tu usse life partner bana de.

Film: Raanjhanaa

We all know about the awesome songs that this movie had but do we remember this very cheesy dialogue from this film…

This is a scene where the main protagonist Kundan played by Dhanush tells his childhood female friend Bindiya when she tries to seduce him.

Dialogue: Kundan ke pajaame ka naada itna dheela nahi hain Bindiya jo tere blouse ke do hook pe khul jaaye.

Film: Once Upon Ay Time In Mumbai Dobaara

Akshay Kumar and Imran Khan fall for the same girl – Sonakshi Sinha in this movie.

Akshay Kumar’s Dialogue: Doodh mein nimbu jisne daala paneer uska

Film 2 States:

Dialogue is no doubt funny but watch the below video. Did Alia say ‘bum’ instead of bomb or am I the only person hearing it wrong?

Film ‘Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola’

Imran Khan shouts “Bhagwaan ke liye mujhe chhod do”

Anushka reverts, “Tujh jaisi cheez ko main bhagwaan ke liye kaise chhod sakti hoon?”

Last but not the least this unique proposal of Raj Kapoor from the film ‘Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai’:

Don’t miss the famous dialogue, “Kammoji Aap Mere uss Lalle ki maa banegi?”

Liking a girl is not really the main issue here but pursuing her despite her rejection turns out to be ugly. Guys think that if they constantly keep trying then the ‘no’ would turn into ‘yes’.

‘Ladki patana’ is like a subject that men take pride in mastering. Well there are times where such constant measures of hitting on a girl can lead to really grave consequences and traumatic experiences for the girls.

Persuading a girl in the neighborhood:

Our society tends to judge a girl before the guy. When a girl is raped it is usually concluded that she asked for it. Similarly when a guy is hitting on a girl, people in the society easily tend to mark her character and might even go to an extent of tagging her with horrific names (wh*re, sl*t, etc.)

Constantly when a guy follows a girl in the neighborhood; firstly he is invading her privacy and secondly people tend to judge the girl. Moreover when the girl doesn’t pay heed to the boy, people pity the boy’s plight and conclude her of having an attitude problem.

Hitting on a girl at work:

This is the worst situation for any woman. Already working women face the challenge of proving their skills at work. Our society has still not accepted the concept of women working and earning for themselves. Firstly it is the society that they need to fight and then to be in the man’s world is really not easy. If you tend to succeed instantly and by coincidence if your boss also happens to be a man then you are easily rumored to be sleeping or physically satisfying your boss to reach your career heights.

In such an environment if a guy (boss/ colleague) keeps pursuing the girl then it becomes a mental torture. Office affairs are not unknown but when the woman says no and the guy still pursues then it gets murky.

Hitting your sister-in-law:

This is again a common case and is probably the worst scenario for any woman. If the perpetrator is outside he can still be tackled but if the predator is within the family then the woman becomes extremely helpless.

Especially when the person in question is the husband’s brother, which would mean the strong bond between the two brothers. No woman would want to be the reason for any fight between two brothers. Mostly our society is structured in a way that even after marriage the wife still continues to face hardships gaining acceptance at her in-laws. If such kind of an incident takes place then it becomes extremely difficult for the woman. She can’t reveal to her husband about his brother.

In the name of protection the brother-in-law would have his vested interest and try to accompany the girl places where her husband might not be able to make it. She can’t deny, can’t go with him, can’t tell her husband about it, etc. the dilemma that a girl goes through in such a situation is really pathetic.

When the guy friend never understands that he can never be the boyfriend:

This gets really irritating. It is a very common Indian mind-set that a girl and a guy can’t be friends. Just because a girl is sharing her deepest secrets and may be even being physically comfortable with a guy friend doesn’t mean she sees him like a boyfriend. Some guys don’t understand this. They might have spent really good time but if the girl finds her man then this reality isn’t very well accepted by the friend.

He would secretly hope for them to break-up or would go to any extent to do that.

Below is a song from the movie ‘Mere yaar ki shaadi hai’ where the bachelor party turns into a nightmare for the couple.

When a young boy keeps going behind a woman:

Juveniles are no exception to eve-teasing. When matured men don’t understand a girl’s denial then what can we even expect from young boys in their teens? Moreover our films also have had such bad impacts that men are born with the intention of pursuing till the girl gives in.

For example check out this song ‘Lakh Lakh’ from the movie ‘Kambakkht Ishq’. Akshay Kumar literally harasses Kareena Kapoor in public but hey he is the hero!!

Such depictions in popular media have built the stereotype and even kids grow up thinking it is cool to harass women.

At such young age they tend to believe whatever they see. It is very important that the society learns to respect women and the space.

Nobody in this world has the right to invade that space. Liking a person is a very beautiful feeling indeed but men should also need to be mature enough to handle rejection. A woman should never pay the price for a feeling the guy develops.

The main problem is some men can’t handle rejection.
