People are going off the wall sharing the pictures of brave pilots of IAF who have executed the lionised airstrike on Pakistan’s Balakot that claimed to have destroyed a major terror training camp on Tuesday. The pictures are circulating in every social media platform possible but it is necessary to weigh the authenticity of these pictures. These IAF pilots have crossed the border and carried out the attack to avenge Pulwama. Fair enough. But do you really know if these pictures that you are sharing are accurate? Well, let us give you a fact check here:

Pakistan on Wednesday claimed that they have given the
fitting reply to the IAF airstrike that was conducted on Tuesday and that they
have shot down two Indian Airforce Fighter Jets. The spokesperson of Pakistan
Army released a detailed statement in this matter and said that one IAF
commander has been arrested by them too.

Hours later after the statement issues by Pakistan, India
confirmed that one pilot that was sent off to the mission has gone ‘missing in
action’.

The tension between India and Pakistan intensified after the
nefarious terrorist attack on the Indian CRPF personnel that was carried out by
a Pakistani terror outfit on 14th February. It was one of the goriest suicide attack that
the nation has experienced so far!

Amid this ongoing tension, many a pictures featuring the Indian pilots that undertook the mission of conducting a airstrike in Pakistan aiming to blow away the terror training camp, surfaced on social media sites. However, according to a report by BBC, the authenticity of these pictures is questionable.

According to the post that is being circulated in social
media, the group of fighter pilots that the pictures are featuring, have taken
part in the mission. The social media post under question has claimed that the
name of the only female fighter pilot in the group is Anita Sharma.

The picture came tailored with a message that The only female figher pilot of Indian Air Force in the group of pilots that crossed the line of control and killed at least 300 terrorists in a airstrike is Anita Sharma. She needs to be congratulated for her brave deed.

Indian Army and Indian Airforce have not yet made any
comments on the issue as they are barred from disclosing the names of the
personnel that take part in such secret missions. To be frank, this is a
picture of Avani Chaturvedi who is first Indian female to fly a fighter
aircraft.

According to media reports, Avani Chaturvedi is the first woman to fly a fighter aircraft. She is capable of flying aircrafts like Sukhoi in case of an emergency.

In another picture whatsoever, we can see Squadron Leader Sneha Shekhawat who led airforce float on 2012’s Republic Day Parade and 2015’s Republic Day Parade successively. She is the first woman ever to lead the IAF float in Republic Day Parade. But sadly, according to the fake photos that are circulating in social media, she is being called Urvashi Jariwala who they say that has passed out from Surat Bhulka Bhavan School which is factually incorrect.

Sneha Shekhawat entered the IAF by appearing in NDA entrance exam in the year 2007. The bagged the award of best female pilot in Hyderabad training centre. Sneha hails from Rajasthan’s Shekhawati region.

They rope in business, political, academic, and other leaders to serve the Global, Regional, Industry agendas.

This is an International Body as recognized by the Swiss Authorities.

The Annual Meeting is held by the end of January each year in Davos, a mountain resort in Graubünden located on the Eastern Alps region of Switzerland. Round about 2,5000 top business leaders, International Political Leaders, Economists and Journalists that form the ‘Davos Panel’ are committed to make the world a better place.

Modi to attend World economic conference

Our PM Narendra Modi is all set to appear at Davos to attend the Annual World Economic Conference they very first time in 20 years. Here, he will be in talks with World’s top CEOs and large number of heads of governments.

This will be held towards the end of January in the routine manner in Davos, Graubünden. But the good news is that Prime Minister Modi will be treated like a Chief Guest and our country will dominate the show.

Davos is a small town in the lap of Alps with an international appeal. In Victorian times, it was a tuberculosis sanatorium where patients were kept segregated from the polluted city air in a crisp, clean ambience with hearty mountain air to breathe.

Davos was even attended by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s wife who has undergone her treatment for TB. This small place in the Alpine area is transmuted into an opulent ski resort now where the CEOs and large number of government gather to meet the World economic conference in January.

Modi will visit there with a team of around hundred Indian Corporate Chiefs and Policy Makers. The event will be themed on India and it will be the main focus of the conference too. The top officials deem India to be good field of investment hence this gesture.

It was Chinese Presiden XI Jinping who addressed Davos as the Chief Guest where he wooed global businessmen and denounced protectionism.

His words were a veiled attack towards Donald Trump’s inauguration later that month.

The last Indian PMs have avoided the event as it collides with the 26th January, Republic Day celebrations but Modi decided to give it a shot despite having a packed schedule. His visit to Switzerland will be a nippy affair and he will be present during the 26th January Republic Day Celebrations.

World economic conference – Besides, there is ASEAN conference just round the corner to be held in India. After a prompt visit to Switzerland, Modi will return to India to welcome the World Leaders followed by the budget session of Parliament.

She took to Instagram to share accounts of the harrowing incident to her fans and the news spread like wildfire.

It was not long ago Zaira Wasim received the National child award, 17 for her standout performance in Geeta Phogat’s cinematic portrayal from the President Ramnath Kovind. She has her roots in Srinagar and her parents never approved of her acting endeavours in the beginning. She nevertheless shot to fame with the release of ‘Dangal’ and bagged the key role in ‘Secret Superstar’ successively.

The man who sexually assaulted Zaira Wasim said to police that the incident happened unintentionally while his wife hurled a counter accusation at Zaira saying she could inform the cabin crew about it which she didn’t, instead she used social media to vent her ire.

The accused named Vikas Sachdev was defended by his friends and wife who called out the actress’s allegations as fabricated. Vikas was booked under section 354 of the Indian Penal Code and other relevant sections Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).

A friend of Vikas, Kuldeep Sachdeva was quoted as saying- “Vikas was upset and tired because of the death. He’d told the airhostess not to disturb him or even serve him the meal; he’d just asked for a blanket to sleep. When the flight was about to land, the actress shouted at him and said ‘this is not your lounge; put your leg down’. He apologised to her, and said it had happened inadvertently. He is innocent and doesn’t have any past record either; the police can check.”

While she has accused a Mumbai businessman of allegedly harassing her by indecent means, here are the insights into the matter:
Zaira Wasim was travelling from Delhi to Mumbai on 10th December when the incident took place.

She alleged that the man kept rubbing his foot around her neck and cheek areas at a stretch, pretty indecently to say the least.

Zaira was all tears when she shared the incident with the world through her Instagram story.

She posted a snapshot of the man’s foot and said ‘Managed to get this’

She then added- “The lights were dimmed, so it was even worse. It continued for another 5-10 minutes and then I was sure of it. He kept nudging my shoulder and continued to move his foot up and down my back and neck.

She said her journey turned into a nightmare for her having been faced with this detestable incident.

She said- “So, I was in a flight travelling from Delhi to Mumbai today and right behind me one middle-aged man who made my two-hour journey miserable. I tried to record it on phone to understand it better because the cabin lights were dimmed, I failed to get it.

Now what is more disgusting and heartbreaking for a nation to learn what is right and what is wrong from a child all of 17? Our heads hang in shame.

Now you can actually say ‘Daag Ache Hai’ !

Why ? As a new technology will enable us to bid goodbye to even the toughest stain so that you do not have to discard your favorite clothes ever.

Thanks to The Facilitation Centre for Industrial Plasma Technologies (FCIPT), a division of Institute for Plasma Research (IPR) in Gandhinagar, who has come up with a unique technology wherein clothes clean themselves.

The technique involves vaporization method wherein nanoparticle powder of titanium metal is vaporized with plasma to form titanium dioxide.

These ultra-minute particles of titanium dioxide, when mixed with alcohol and sprayed on clean clothes make them stain proof.

“The TiO2 nanoparticles get trapped between fibers of the cloth and form a protective coat. The moment a tough stain like say turmeric enriched curry falls on your nano-treated shirt or top, one just has to leave it in the sun for two to three hours and the stain vanishes instantly,” said C Balasubramanian, senior scientist at FCIPT.

The sun’s ultraviolet rays activate the TiO2 which helps oxygen from the atmosphere to convert to radical oxygen that reacts with stain molecules and breaks it down – thereby removing stains. This process is called a self-cleaning cloth,” Balasubramanian explained.

Dr S K Nema, senior scientist at FCIPT, said, “We have developed a system where textile rolls are passed through plasma which modifies the surface of the textile up to a few nano meters.”

The best part is that the TiO2 coat remains for more than 20 washes. FCIPT have come up with great process which can produce nano particles of high purity in large quantities through plasma treatment in matter of few minutes.

As per reports, FCIPT will sign an MoU with Man Made Textile Research Association, Surat. As soon as the the MOu gets approved the method of in-line plasma treatment will be imbibed in textile manufacturing.

We hope that this plasma treatment commence as soon as possible in textile arena.

What do you think about this invention by Indian scientists? Let us know in the comments below.

Reuben and Keenan Case is closed as Mumbai sessions court has convicted all four accused in the Keenan-Rueben murder case viz. Jitendra Rana, Sunil Bodh, Satish Dulhaj and Dipak Tival and sentenced them to life imprisonment till death.

Ujjwal Nikam had been appointed as the public prosecutor.

“I wanted death sentence for the accused. They should live every moment thinking about Keenan and Reuben, what they did to them, they should think about how we are living our life, how Keenan’s younger brother is living his life…” Keenan’s father Valerian Santos said after a special women’s court pronounced its verdict.

Keenan Santos and Reuben Fernandes were murdered outside a restaurant in Andheri in Mumbai.

About Reuben and Keenan Case

On October 20, 2011, Keenan then 24, and Reuben, 29 were out with their friends and women in their group were sexually molested by four men. Keenan and Ruben helped the friends by backing off the goons.

But after a while, the group were back with more than ten people and attacked Keenan and Reuben. The whole incident took place at public spot and bystanders didn’t budge to help them.

Unfortunately, Keenan died on same day and Reuben battled for his life but after few days he succumbed to his wounds

Reuben and Keenan Case: Charges were framed and other perpetrators were released

The four killers, now convicted, were arrested the next day. A fast-track court framed charges against them for murder, conspiracy and molestation.

But besides them many other perpetrators of the murder were arrested with charges of rioting but they were released on bail.

We are glad that finally justice has been meted out. We hope that such cases never ever happen in future !

They were rescued after a raid on Monday night.

The raid was planned after the police received a letter from the Nepal embassy regarding their plight. According to reports, the house is rented by diplomat from Saudi Arabia. He was among those booked for gang rape and wrongful confinement of woman and her daughter.

Reportedly, the women were hired as domestic help were allegedly held as hostages in Jeddah and later were shifted to Gurgaon.

Recently a US national was raped; there was again a case of a gang rape of 32 year old in the month of April and today again we here similar case. Many of them go unnoticed as people do not file FIR due to societal pressure and stigma involved in these cases. In June, 3-4 molestation and rape cases were registered within 24 hours. Imagine the number of cases which never came in the records.

What are plausible reasons of rape in North India Belt?

Of course there has to be some reason why there is a prevalence of rape in the northern belt of India. Caste-related violence targeted at the Dalits and towards lower caste is not uncommon in North India. In north India people from upper caste reinforce the systems of case and patriarchy by raping the women from lower caste and this practice is going on from time immemorial.

Patriarchal norms and gender discrimination are another root cause of gender based violence in north. One of the reasons again why men from northern India indulge in this bestial crime is that they want to vent out their frustration against women who defy the old school norms. Many men feel the complex from those women who participate in labour force or try to become at par with men.

Apart from sexual repression, attack family honor is also the reason is why rapes are prevalent in this area. There was recent case to back this reason. Recently all male Khap panchayat ordered rape as punishment for two women. We wonder how a revolting crime can be a punishment.

NCRB Reports: Delhi is Rape capital of India.

Delhi has a bad reputation of one of the most unsafe big cities for women in India. Females in Delhi do not feel safe. There is steep rise in molestation and rape cases from past few years. The city reported 1813 rapes in 2014 and leads in reported cases of rapes. The city tops in number of reported rape cases and is proportionate to the female population.

Here’s the statistics on reported rapes.

No Lessons learnt after Nirbhaya’s Case

There were massive protests in Delhi and other cities after the brutal gang rape of a student in South Delhi. Many thought this outrage will bring down the number of cases but that’s not the case. Numerous cases on a frequent basis soon were registered.

No doubt that rapes takes place in other parts of India. But if we go according to facts north and north east do have more number of rape and molestation cases than the rest of India.

Why North India fails to curb the rampant menace? Why rapes are increasing day by day in our nation? What are your thoughts let us know in the comments below.

Read on to this news piece on how mother’s love for daughter made her kill three sons.

23 Year old Brittany Pilkington from Ohio, USA, is jailed for killing her three sons

As per media reports, Brittany Pilkington from Ohio, USA, called the cops to report her baby boy wasn’t breathing and hours later she dazed everyone by confessing that she is the culprit behind all the killings. Brittany Pilkington was charged with three counts of murder of her three sons. She reportedly said that she murdered all of her sons by placing a blanket and suffocated them to death.

She is accused and jailed for the death of three month old Noah and for the deaths of four year old Gavin, who died in the April, and three month old Niall, who died last year. The neighbor told to media that how the mother never showed any remorse and hurt during the previous deaths but these things were not taken into consideration and the deaths were ruled as an accident with no foul play.

This confession shook everyone and what is more shocking and disturbing is the reason behind the killings. She killed their sons over a period of thirteen months because her husband was not paying much attention towards their daughter.

She claimed that she killed her sons just to get her husband’s attention toward their only daughter. She also mentioned how she was upset over her hubby’s constant attention to their baby boys than to the daughter.

Also we can learn from the media reports that, Hailey, the only surviving child of the family is now safe and was handed over to county children;s welfare agency.

What are your thoughts on this spine chilling, dastardly act? Can any sane person can do this heinous act against one’s family?

This reckless move by him came while a debate on the government’s Insurance Bill had been on-going in Rajya Sabha.

Don’t get the connection between the Insurance Bill and the comment, right? Neither do I.

This is what the JD (U) President rambled on the obsession of the average Indian population on fair skin:

“Your God is dark like Ravi Shankar Prasad, (who at that time, was present in the house) but your matrimonial ads insist on white-skinned brides,”Yadav said. “The women of the south are dark but they are as beautiful as their bodies…We don’t see it here. They aren’t made like this here. They know dance.”

While the male members of the parliament were having fun moments when Yadav made such an insensitive statement, the women members were left speechless and did not know what or how to say after this inhumane act.

The President also did not think it would be fair to leave the recent case of Leslee Udwin’s documentary, India’s Daughter that was based on the interview of the rapists and the lawyers defending the rapists of the gang-rape incident of December 16 in New Delhi. He claimed that “she must have got permissions easily because of her white skin.”

While DMK President was against such unwelcome remarks by Yadav and asked him to focus on the subject of discussion, the latter justified himself saying that there was no harm in having a non-serious discussion.

Many Twitteratis have resorted to the social micro-blogging site; while many criticised his sexist statements, referring it as ‘disgusting’ and the man as a ‘nincompoop’, some have even taken sarcastic hits at Yadav.

But, there are even some who defended him, and yes, that too from a political party.

JD (U) leader, KC Tyagi commented on Yadav’s selection of words, saying that though the words he used were wrong, his intention was clear.

What could have possibly been his intention when he said that “here people are awed by fair skin. In our matrimonials too, we look for gori, gori (fair skin)”?

If this is the way Yadav proposed to describe the increase of Foreign Direct Investment from 26 per cent to 49 per cent, then it is time we tell our ministers how to use analogies, examples and illustrations.

Well of course you must have noticed these signs. After all these signs have wonderful graffiti arts of red colored spits to highlight them, don’t they?

Mumbaikars are so unique that we would find how artistically people spat on these public signs.

Spitting in public is a criminal offence, would only call for a “bwahahahaa” from the person who is doing it.

Well to revert in their style the state health department has come up with a unique way of teaching these offenders a strict lesson.

Reports say that the state health department proposed a law wherein a person found chewing tobacco or spitting on the streets would have to sweep the Govt. offices for a day.

Now this is a law if passed, would really be something worth. Imagine an auto driver sweeping the floor along with say a CEO of a big company. That sight would make headlines.

By the way spitting is a habit that people from all strata of the society pleasurably indulge into. When someone is in a foreign land he/ she strictly abides by the law and boasts about the cleanliness of that place but the moment the flight touches the base the Indian side is revealed.

Ooops anyone offended as I said Indian side? Well as per reports the High Court had observed that “spitting is an inherent characteristic of Indians.”

People chew tobacco and spit on roads as if the public place is supposed to be spoilt.

July 2013: There was a TOI report that 70,000 people were fined in Mumbai for spitting in public places from August 2011 to July 2012.

These are the number of cases fined but frankly, a BMC official even fining an offender is quite an unusual sight.

If this law is passed then it would seriously be a step towards ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’. Eagerly looking forward to this law making its way into real implementation. The offender would be required to sweep Govt. office or a hospital for a day on working hours (8 hrs).

Goa Police on Tuesday said they had recorded the statement of the woman journalist, who has accused Tejpal of sexually assaulting her twice at a five star resort in Panaji this month.

The woman has resigned her job in Tehelka after accusing the management of sheltering Tejpal.

In her statement to Goa Police, the victim reiterated the points she made to Tehelka’s managing editor Shoma Chaudhury, a police source told IANS.

“The statement is consistent with the complaint to Shoma and with the versions told to us by the three journalists (former employees of Tehelka) who the victim had confided in,” the official said.

Goa Police said they had alerted all immigration points as a precaution to prevent Tejpal from leaving India. Police have still not decided how and where to question Tejpal.

Tejpal, who had moved the Delhi High Court, did not get interim relief on his plea for anticipatory bail.

Justice Sunita Gupta asked the police to file a reply by Wednesday. Goa Police opposed the bail plea, saying the matter was a serious one.

Tejpal’s counsel K.T.S Tulsi and Geeta Luthra asked the court to pass an order granting him protection from arrest till police filed a reply.

Tejpal alleged that the Goa government was giving him a bad time because the BJP had a “long standing grudge” against him for the investigative journalism he did when the party ruled the country.

In 2001, Tejpal was behind a sting operation on leaders of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government that exposed corruption in defence deals.

It resulted in the resignations of then Bharatiya Janata Party president Bangaru Laxman and defence minister George Fernandes.

Tejpal said the woman stayed out late into the night during the ThinkFest conference in Goa where the alleged assault took place.

He said the encounter with her was “light hearted bantering”.

“The colleague referred above continued to party and was completely normal and friendly all throughout in Goa,” Tejpal said in his bail plea.

“She was at every party and social events through the conference and stayed out late into the night.”

He asked police to study the CCTV footage of Hotel Hyatt in Goa.

“On Nov 8, a further meeting took place between the two individuals but the same lasted for a few seconds and contained no incident which could constitute the commission of a cognisable offence,” Tejpal said.

There was not a single whisper from any corner including the complainant that any untoward incident had taken place, he said.

Tejpal called the allegation an afterthought that was reported after 10 days.

Tehelka Tuesday suffered a setback as Urvashi Butalia, the director of Zubaan Books whom it had named to head a panel to look into the allegations against Tejpal, made it known that she was not on the panel.

Tehelka later issued a statement saying it is trying to persuade lawyers and activists to stay on a panel to investigate charges against Tejpal.

Tehelka said it wrote to the complainant journalist asking her to suggest some names for the committee but she did not reply.

Tehelka said it had approached Butalia, child rights activist Inakshi Ganguly, actress Sharmila Tagore, Justice Leela Seth, journalist Prem Shankar Jha, historian Uma Chakravarti and lawyer Vrinda Grover to join the probe panel.

The verdict in the much talked about double murder case of Aarushi Talwar and domestic help Hemraj is out. The court has sentenced Rajesh and Nupur Talwar life imprisonment for the double murder case under Section 302 of Indian Penal Code.

They have been sentenced under Sec 302 of IPC, 5 years under Sec 203, 1 year for Rajesh Talwar under Sec 201. The court has also awarded the Talwars a fine of Rs 17,000.

The time for imprisonment has not been defined.

The line of argument that went on in CBI special court for a brief period in this case earlier in the day had the prosecution dominating the scene. The CBI had sought death penalty for Talwars with public prosecutor R.K. Saini arguing that the case comes under the “rarest of rare” category.

On the other hand, the counsel for the Talwars sought leniency from the court. The couple was in the court during the arguments on the quantum of their sentence. They had insisted that they were innocent.

The Talwars were held guilty of murdering their 14-year-old daughter and domestic help on Monday. Both were found dead with their throats slit at the Talwar residence in Noida in May 2008.

Delivering the much-awaited verdict yesterday, Special CBI Judge Shyam Lal had said that both the accused (Talwars) have “flouted the ferocious penal law of the land” and therefore are liable to be convicted in the double murder case.

“Now is the time to say omega in this case. To perorate, it is proved beyond reasonable doubt that the accused are perpetrators of the crime in the question. The parents are the best protectors of their own child that is in order of human nature but they have been freaks in the history of mankind where the father and mother became the killer of their own progeny,” the judge had said in a 204-page judgment.

It had added: “They have extirpated their own daughter who had hardly seen 14 summers of her life and the servant without compunction from terrestrial terrain in the breach of commandment “Thou shalt not kill”.

The court had also quoted holy the Quran, saying, “Take not life which God had made sacred.”

A police team had left for Mumbai to record the statement of the victim, who Monday quit her job accusing the Tehelka management of sheltering Tejpal.

The victim reiterated the same points she made in her complaint sent by email to Tehelka managing editor Shoma Chaudhury last week, a police source told IANS.

“The statement is consistent with the complaint to Shoma and with the versions told to us by the three journalists (all former employees of Tehelka) who the victim had confided in,” the official said.

Police have still not decided how and where to question Tejpal.

“(The) centre’s failure to bring the real perpetrators of 26/11 to justice is disappointing,” Modi tweeted.

“It is high time (the central government) acts decisively,” the Gujarat chief minister said.

Tuesday marks the fifth anniversary of the Mumbai terror attack by 10 Pakistani terrorists that left 166 Indians and foreigners dead. One of the terrorists, Ajmal Amir Kasab, was arrested — and hanged.

Modi said: “Best tribute to the victims is to ensure that such attacks never happen.”

He added: “Due to 26/11 attacks, we lost our heroes who put duty before self, who sacrificed themselves for the nation. Salute to them! 26/11 is a grim reminder of the security threat India faces.

“Let us assure families of the victims that sacrifice of their near ones will not go in vain. (It is) time to work towards a stronger and safer India.

“Why is everybody speaking on behalf of the girl? She would have to come and say ‘Well, I wanted to stay under surveillance as I don’t trust myself.’ Would she be able to say that?” Khurshid asked.

“The girl should come forward, not her father,” he told a television news channel here.

Khurshid also suggested that the Gujarat government’s decision to set up a commission of inquiry to probe allegations that the woman was kept under watch could be aimed at foiling any other investigation.

“So many inquiries have been going on in Gujarat since (the) 2002 (communal violence), but we haven’t got much satisfaction from that,” the Congress leader said.

“It will be premature to say that just because they (Gujarat government) have ordered an inquiry, all is well.

“Sometimes an inquiry is also ordered to forestall another and to prevent any other inquiry being held. I don’t want to prematurely comment. Let us see what comes of that (inquiry)”.

The Gujarat government Monday announced an inquiry, headed by a retired woman judge, to probe allegations that the woman, said to be an architect, was stalked by the state police in 2009.

The issue has escalated into a political row, with critics asking Chief Minister Narendra Modi to answer charges if he ordered police to keep the woman under surveillance.

Khurshid said the fact was that nobody was denying that the snooping took place.

Justice Sunita Gupta declined to give any relief to Tejpal, who is facing charges of sexually assaulting a journalist colleague, and asked the police to file a reply by Wednesday.

Goa Police opposed the bail application, saying the matter was serious in nature.

Sources said the victim from Mumbai sent her resignation letter through e-mail to managing editor Shoma Chaudhury. The two witnesses Shougat Dasgupta and Ishan Tankha, questioned by the Goa Police Sunday at Goa Sadan have also put in their papers.

Goa Police camped in Delhi for two days and collected Chaudhury’s computer Central Processing Unit (CPU), laptop and iPad along with Tejpal’s computer CPU. They also seized the joining and transfer letters of the victim. The team returned to Goa Sunday afternoon.

The young Tehelka journalist, in her complaint to Chaudhury, said Tejpal sexually assaulted her twice in the Goa’s Club House section elevator of the five-star Grand Hyatt resort during the news magazine’s high-profile ThinkFest conference earlier this month.

The matter came to light after intra-office communication between Tejpal, Chaudhury and the woman was leaked to the media last week. Chaudhury too has been accused of trying to hush up the matter.

Tejpal, in a statement released Friday, requested investigators to “examine and release the CCTV footage so the accurate version of events stands clearly revealed”.

Here is full text of victim’s resignation:

Ms. Chaudhury,

I am resigning from my position as ****** at Tehelka magazine, with immediate effect, because Tehelka’s Editor-in-Chief Tarun Tejpal sexually molested me on two occasions in November this year.

I am deeply traumatized by the lack of support offered by the organization.
In such circumstances, it is untenable for me to continue to work for this organization.

At this moment, I would like to present the following facts to support my claim:

1. I was sexually molested by Tarun Tejpal on two occasions, the 7th and 8th of November 2013 at the annual Think festival in Goa this year. In the emails of apology that followed my complaint to you about Mr Tejpal’s grievous sexual misconduct, he admitted to the fact, and apologized unconditionally.

2. I requested, at the very least, for Mr Tejpal to acknowledge this apology publicly to the staff and bureau of Tehelka. While I did not want this acknowledgement to have graphic details, I asked that the words “sexual misconduct” be included. In a phone conversation with me, you asked that he be recused from doing so because he had already admitted to sexual molestation in his emails, and because we needed to “protect the institution”. In this conversation, I said, “I trust you to do the right thing”.

3. In the public acknowledgement sent to the bureau, Mr Tejpal and you referred to his act of sexual violation as “an untoward incident”— this was not an attempt to “protect the institution” but in fact, an attempt to cover up what had really occurred—the act of sexual molestation, an admission of the facts that Mr Tejpal had “attempted sexual liaison” with me (to quote his email) on two occasions despite my “reluctance to receive such attention”. Further, in conversations with my colleagues, you admitted to them that you did not see the need to set up an anti-sexual harassment cell as per the Vishaka guidelines, because you did not contest my version of what had occurred on the nights of 7th and 8th of November.

4. In your appearances on national news channels, you first attempted to establish that I was “satisfied” with Tehelka’s actions, when only one of my immediate demands from the organization had been met—namely, that Mr Tejpal had unconditionally apologized for sexually molesting me in private emails to you and I. His public acknowledgement of the apology did not include any reference to his grievous sexual misconduct, and you had still failed to set up an anti-sexual harassment cell as per Vishaka guidelines. This could, in no way, have left me “satisfied”. Further, I had responded to both of Mr Tejpal’s emails (cc’d to you and the three colleagues I had confided everything to since the 7th of November) clarifying:

that his behaviour could not be described as “sexual liaison”, and that was in fact an act of sexual molestation and a violation of bodily integrity and trust, since it occurred (by his own admission) despite my refusal.

A sexual act carried out without consent cannot be justified on any basis.

That after Mr Tejpal (by his own admission) had referred to his position of power over me in the organization, he did not withdraw this statement as his emails allege.

You continued to ignore my rebuttals to these emails, while insisting, in public, that I was satisfied.

5. You are now attempting to establish that Mr Tejpal has “another version” of events (as surely, any sexual predator does), and that the “encounter” may have been consensual or non-consensual. Meanwhile, on the night of the 22nd of November, an immediate member of Mr Tejpal’s family went to my mother’s house to ask her the details of my legal counsel, and what I “wanted” as a result of my complaint about being sexually molested by Mr Tejpal. In emails and text messages sent to his friends, read out on national news channels, Mr Tejpal is now claiming that what occurred was a “fleeting, consensual encounter”; and that he wrote his apologies to me because of your “adamantine feminist principles”.

Over the past years, we have collectively defended the rights of women, written about custodial rape, sexual molestation at the workplace, spoken out harshly against the culture of victim blame and the tactical emotional intimidation and character assassination of those who dare to speak out against sexual violence.

At a time when I find myself victim to such a crime, I am shattered to find the Editor in Chief of Tehelka, and you— in your capacity as Managing Editor— resorting to precisely these tactics of intimidation, character assassination and slander.

Given the sequence of events since the 7th of November, it is not just Mr Tejpal who has failed me as an employer—but Tehelka that has failed women, employees, journalists and feminists collectively.

Please consider my resignation effective immediately.

The alleged snooping of a woman architect has escalated into a major political row, involving Narendra Modi.

A Gujarat government statement Monday said the two-member commission will consist of former Gujarat High Court judge Sugnyaben K. Bhatt and former additional chief secretary K.C. Kapoor. The panel has been asked to submit its report within three months.

The Gujarat government’s decision came on a day the Congress led a delegation of women activists who submitted a memorandum to President Pranab Mukherjee demanding a judicial probe into the alleged stalking of the woman.

The alleged snooping has escalated into a major row between the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party in the middle of the campaigning for assembly polls.

The Congress has been alleging the woman was close to Modi and was put under surveillance by the then minister of state for home and Modi’s aide, Amit Shah, in 2009 after the chief minister suspected her of being close to an IAS officer.

Modi is the prime ministerial candidate of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Gujarat cadre IAS officer Pradeep Sharma Saturday filed a plea in the Supreme Court and sought a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into violations of law by Modi and Shah in the alleged snooping on the architect.

He urged the court to take on record the documents and transcripts accompanying his application and sought direction to the CBI to “register a case and conduct a thorough inquiry/investigation into the violation of the Telegraph Act, 1885 and other applicable laws” by Modi, Shah and any others.

The Gujarat government statement said the inquiry had been ordered to probe the issue in larger public interest and to arrive at the truth.

“After considering all aspects of the case, the state government has decided to get the matter inquired in the larger public interest to gather, assimilate and establish the truth,” the statement said.

The statement referred to reports in the media quoting “certain audio-tapes published on web portals ‘Kobrapost’ and ‘Gulail.com’ regarding some alleged incident(s) of security/surveillance of a woman in the state of Gujarat in 2009.”

According to the expose made earlier this month, the woman’s movements and her conversations were being covered by the Gujarat “state Intelligence Bureau, the Crime Branch and the Anti-Terrorist Squad in August 2009 on oral orders, without any valid legal authorisation, and was meant only to serve the interests of someone whom Amit Shah, addressed as ‘saheb’.”

The Congress has been seeking to corner Modi on the alleged stalking and has claimed that “saheb” mentioned in the tapes referred to the Gujarat chief minister.

The BJP has strongly defended the Gujarat government, stating the father of the woman said he requested the state government to provide protection to his daughter.
