Bengalis are known for their food delicacies, their intellects have always made the country proud. Strong participants during the struggle and revolution before independence were the people of Bengal. To bring change and fight against the Swati, widow remarriage was started by the Bengalis. Over time the achievements are not only appreciated but they still dwell in nostalgia.

Bengalis are also famous as the most talkative and lazy community. Maybe after the French, they rank among the foodie and comfort-loving lifestyles. If not seeking a luxurious and comfortable cozy house but a soft bed is enough for an afternoon nap. Apart from several flaws, Bengalis are knowledgable and intelligent people with different memories related to each generation. Bengalis feel proud at the same time cherish each moment of success, hard work, and sacrifice but dwell in nostalgia as a culture.

Pride Bengalis dwell in the nostalgia of Tagore and Ray

One of the ever-known poets is Rabindranath Tagore. His dedication during the freedom fight were an inspiration and strength for the fighters. It is the reason he is known as the Bard of Bengal, even after several decades his birth anniversary is celebrated in each street of Bengal. The first Nobel Prize winner in the Bengal community that the community still celebrates with pride every year. Satyajit Ray and his movies are ever after Evocative.

Long chats and gossip over a cup of tea

No day gets away without the “rock adda”. It is a culture that is in the blood, early morning tea at the nearest tea stall or an afternoon the Adda can start anytime and at any corner of the street. Apart from the regular tea stall Adda, Kolkata’s Coffee house is an iconic place in Kolkata. Over decades this place has been an energizer for the Adda and their people.

Freedom fighters

Bengali renaissance has influenced the culture and community. Even after years of Independence, they are remembered as history. Different ways implemented intellectual revolution made them the leaders. To fight against the British India company Bengal was the pioneer. The social reformers apart from Tagore were Raja Ram Mohan Roy and Physicist Satyendra Nath Bose.

Bengalis still are divided into East Bengal and West Bengal

Although the countries Bangladesh and India has been separated a long time ago. But even after years, Bengalis are obsessed over football matches when between East Bengal and Mohan Bagan. Football is not only a sport but also the deep hidden history of culture and country sentiments. Bangal and Ghoti, Bangladesh, and West Bengal are separated.

The Bengali dwells in nostalgia but with literature

There are famous poets in Bengal, they are Sarat Chandra, Bankim Chandra, Michael Madhusudan Dutta, and Kazi Nazrul Islam. They have made the West Bengal and the people live with literature. It does not matter, If whether a businessman or engineer literature is their need for wisdom and knowledge.

Intellectual Bengalis may travel to any part of the world. But once they introduce themselves they are believed and recognized to be from the “Land of freedom fighters and Tagore”.

To start earning and stabilizing their lifestyle his first job was in a private bank located in Kolkata.

Later he moved out to Ahmedabad and Mumbai for a better living. But it was not for long that he was far from penning his thoughts into stories. Fictitious stories in Bengali have given a second chance after working in Mumbai for a while.

With the conversion of generations, literacy work, and the minds of readers the kind of execution of story flows has also changed.

Critics have many viewpoints when for few some appreciate the uniqueness with indulges modern fictions versus towards future. While some critics find these stories unrealistic.

Hereby, after receiving a good response from his followers and readers there was a break in his writing career.

This name was carried forward after independence, so once called Calcutta was the capital of undivided India till 1911. It was the time when the British invaded and was ruling over us, though during their reign, it was when Sati abolition rule was passed under the jurisdiction of Governor-General Lord William Bentinck.

It was Bengal, the Kolkata history that banned the Sati Pratha on 4th December 1829 which was a tradition of Hindus.
Another part of Bengal renaissance was during the rule of British India company when the widow’s remarriage acts confirmed in the year 1856 on 26th July.
Old Kolkata history does not end here; it was then the slogan “Give me blood, I shall give give you freedom”, was raised to fight against the British India company that was led Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. Unsung heroes who sacrificed their lives for independent India.

Bengal its people before and after independence

Popular writers who revolted but their arms were the pens, who can forget the dedication of Bankim Chandra
Chattopadhyay, Micheal Madhusudan Dutt, and Rabindranath Tagore, from the lists of laureates. West Bengal has struggled far away from the days of independence but overall stood with head high, irrespective of the loss or victory.

Standing in 2020 while looking back after independence though old Kolkata has faced several problems who can deny the unforgettable director Satyajit Ray, the whole world knows him for his excellence in movie direction.

Mother Teresa, her dedication to helping the homeless child and establishment in Kolkata was honored with the Nobel Peace Prize in 1979. Amartya Sen and Abhijit Banerjee are economists from Kolkata who won the Nobel prize for economics in 1998 and 2018 respectively.

Despite Bengal lack employment and industries

Bengal is lacking in employing its people despite the icons born and evolved. Several jute factories and mills are closed for years because of which jobless are its people.
Worries are rising among the young generation when they have to think about their career options. What expansion or addition has been in recent years to increase employment? Jobs are limited to Government jobs, private practices, and real estate. Professional ITs, Mechanical engineers, or other engineering students have to move to Bengal to earn a better place and better living if they want to opt for services. Options are limited that have provided the state limited sectors to earn its revenue, small businesses also find it hard to survive due to lack of exposure and scopes within the state.

Coronavirus pandemic Lockdown and Amphan builts crisis in Bengal

India faces a financial crisis due to coronavirus pandemic lockdown, so does Bengal. It was not too long thereafter Bengal faces the worst disastrous crisis of cyclone Um-Phung or Amphan. Worst natural calamity in Kolkata history with an impact of damages to agricultural lands that will last long. The entire city suffers from the darkness as no electricity for days and smartphones are idiot boxes as has no connectivity standing in May 2020.
Its all about Kolkata, the city of joy after thousands of people are homeless, they are farmers. Families are in the dark because of no electricity and no transport or manual help due to coronavirus pandemic.

Life must go on! Hardship arouses in each sector of all corners of the world. Coronavirus pandemic may be new to India and people; but struggle and overcoming from the hard times have always been the best part of us, Indians.

Life must go on during and before independence

Fighting for Independence that is a history today has never been easy. While slaves and farmers lost their lands, they struggled through the high revenues bearing life with full of debts. Life was never easy for the Indian common people who entirely were dependent on their lands and farming.
Indians fought back to win independence but that was not all, gaining Independence was possible after the World War when Britain declared to give up on India after World War II. After the Quit India movement in 1942, it was Britain who fought against Nazism in the Second World War, and about 2.5 million Indians were in the troops.

Life must go on after independence

People of India, their life worsen after Independence when poverty was at the doorsteps of the farmers, no employments, and also the main hit to the country was by the partition of the country. India was entirely still struggling to give a new rise; it took more than 60 years to stand and fly high. Now India has been stronger in all aspects. India has succeeded in possessing the nuclear weapon, also worked on projects like Chandrayaan I and Chandrayaan II.

It was after long years of struggle India stands independent and self-sufficient. But once again hard-luck knocked on the door when coronavirus pandemic is about the sunken the boat of the world economy.

Life must go on while people die from diseases

India from the onset or before independence has always been succumbed due to health problems and issues. Though India has given birth to famous scientists, if we dig into ancient history science and philosophy have been part of India. But when it arrived at the curing of diseases and health of people it ended to struggles.

Spanish flu was that spread due to World War I and affected globally from 1918 – 1920. It was in Kolkata the major outbreak of cholera pandemic was seen due to worse sanitization, turned it into an epicenter in 1961 – 1975.
While the recent major pandemic of 2020, has affected globally compared to the spread of SARS in 2002 -2004, it is similar to Covid-19.

Life must go on when natural calamities

In 1894 the Coringa cyclone caused the death of 20,000 people in the ancient city of Coringa. In 1999, Odisha faced the cyclone with the death of 15000 people causing strong damages to a poor and struggling state of India. Earthquake in 2001 in Gujarat killed 20,000 people and in 2005 the Mumbai drowned in flood, while in 2019, at least three cyclones and storms that arrived were highly disastrous that destroyed the coastal areas.

In 2020, when COVID global pandemic worsens human life, people in lockdown phases still find out one reason to live happy and safe as life must go on!

If you go by usual standards, lovebirds do not need a particular city to “snog and snuggle” in. Yet Kolkata is the top pick if there has to be a choice after all!

Many corners to hookup in:-

While the dating game has been upped with cafes and malls galore, the good ol’ parks in Kolkata are reminiscent of wow romance from the past. Elliot Park, Lake Garden and the many other greens (Victoria Memorial, if you remember!) around make it amazing to indulge in some romance.

The glory of Globe:–

No matter how many multiplexes spring up, Kolkata is a lovers’ paradise because it houses the simple cinema halls where corner seats are the best bet for romancing. From Globe to New Empire, dating in Kolkata is way different from that in Mumbai or even Delhi.

Mix of the best and the budget-

Besides the fact that Kolkata is a foodie’s delight, dating here leaves you spoilt for choice. From plush biggies such as the Oberoi Grand and Taj Bengal, down to Nawab’s and the local momo wala at Exide, you can decide your date menu as per your pocket! Which city gives you so many options?

The hotspot Hughli-

Ever caught some fresh breeze off the river?? Mumbai has its sea, Delhi has a Jantar Mantar but the humdrum of romance is best felt on the Howrah Bridge. The Hughli river underneath lends cool freshness when you hold her hand in yours. Yes the traffic has gotten worse over the years but then, it is a small price to pay!

The Bong Connection-

The city is an amalgamation of old British and new cosmopolitan culture. From chaat corners to museums, from Flury’s to Nahoum’s there are options galore to explore on your date. And if your lover is a Bong then nothing beats some commentary on the city.

The Tram and the Metrorail-

Go underground and experience Kolkata’s unique metro. It is the oldest one in the country, folks! The clean tracks and the gurgly motion make it awesome to ride on. And if you can battle the heat, then hop on to the tram. No other city in India boasts of this! The speed is close to a crawling worm yet makes romance much more exciting!

Lastly, not to forget Kolkata’s rasgullas! Roshogollas—for our Bong buddies! It is the best sweet you can ever land on the planet. Agra’s pedas and Delhi’s motichoor do not even come close second. Snack up on your romance and round up your day of love with the rasgulla!! It could be salvation personified—oops—“foodie-fied”

Unbelievably, Kolkata still has place for theater, intellectual addas and gossip –all at once. Amazing city indeed and the top pick in our list of hubs best to date in.
