The ODIs have not lost their charm and enthusiasm with the transformation to IPLs. The India cricket team plays both international and national tournaments that are Twenty20. The first Indian Premiere league was in 2008 organized by the BCCI in Bangalore. Dhoni is known as the King of the IPL in 2020. Though there is less difference between the rule of ODIs and IPLs but the preference for both are variable. ODI’s own the 50 overs per innings while the IPL have 20 overs per innings.

The Supreme Court appointed committee has given its verdict and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) as well as Rajasthan Royals (RR) are banned from the IPL for next two years!

This is indeed a big blow, but given our legal system, there might be some appeals, some more time to buy time to overturn the judgements or ask for some kind of leniency in punishments etc. that will go on. However, it is a watershed moment in the history of Indian cricket and if the judgment is followed in letter and spirit, then very soon BCCI will be looking for two new franchisees to replace the punished ones!

Given the fact that RR was partly owned by Shilpa Shetty’s husband, Raj Kundra (even he is debarred from participating in any form of cricket); suddenly the glamour quotient will drop! Of course Shahrukh Khan and Preity Zinta are still there, but more glamour can only help to make IPL even more successful. As such it is a fun form of cricket rather than serious sport so why not have more glamour quotient to it?

We have thought of 5 celebrities who might or should try to buy the New IPL Teams in auctions so that the tournament becomes more thrilling and more exciting to watch!

M S Dhoni has been a captain with a Midas touch!

One of the most successful captains of Indian cricket team, he is known for cool captaincy which results in more success than failure.

He is known to be so sharp that his competitors across the globe try hard to analyze as to how does he think and take such quick decisions on the field resulting in snatching victory from the jaws of loss!

However, he is a human being after all!

Lately, his performance as a captain came under scrutiny after leading India to multiple losses during foreign tours. To his credit, he realized his folly and took retirement. But is that enough or does he need to have a rethink about his cricket career as a whole involving the shorter versions of the game as well, including one-day cricket and T 20?

While we did win the World Cup 2011 under his captaincy, we lost the latest edition in Australia. Now, if we follow his IPL game, despite topping the charts with maximum wins, the team Chennai Super Kings doesn’t look that formidable or unbeatable compared to its earlier versions. In previous seasons, CSK used to dominate, but this season they are fighting it hard. Also, the semi-final which they lost yesterday to Mumbai Indians was such a one-sided event. Needless to say, Dhoni’s captaincy leaves much to be desired! He didn’t look in terrific form both as a captain and as a batsman. Of course, getting bowled out on the first ball must have been frustrating for him, but is there something brewing below the surface that needs urgent attention?

We are talking about all the off-field controversies the team is involved in due to court cases of the owners owing to match fixing and power struggles going on with constant media scrutiny resulting in too much of additional unwanted stress. Either that or he is actually ageing and not listening to his body!

There is no doubt Dhoni is a terrific player and we can’t write him off just by one debacle. Having said that, the patterns have to be analysed clearly as well as action needs to be taken based on facts and not purely on emotions. He is out from Test cricket, one-dayers he is good, but for how long one can’t say.

And now even in a domestic league like IPL, even with a good amount of international players, his performance is not top notch! In this edition of IPL, he has scored only one 50 with an average of 32.80 which is amongst his lowest batting averages across all IPL seasons!

A leader has to lead from the front, but it seems Dhoni is trying to find his feet and stand firm on a shaky ground!

Let’s hope he regains his Midas touch and do wonders for Indian cricket as well as the domestic cricket he is proudly a part of!

The resurgence of young players in the sport of cricket is back!

During the IPL auctions inFebruary, Sarafaraz was adjudged the youngest player ever to feature in an IPL auction. He was selected by Royal Challengers Bangalore for Rs. 50 lakh.

At just 17 years and 177 days, Sarafaraz has now replaced Delhi’s fiery seamer Pradeep Sangwan who was also 17 (17 years, 179 days) when he made his debut in the IPL.

However, last week, reports were rife in the media that Sarfaraz was embroiled in an off-the-field scuffle with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) player Robin Uthappa right after the match got over between RCB and KKR at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. No complaints have been made to the match referee Javagal Srinath as of yet.

This intruder finds it the hard way. RCB Insider’s Danish Sait dons the role of the intruder in this hilarious video where he approaches Royal Challengers Bangalore captain, who is clearly surprised at having an uninvited visitor in the middle of a shoot.

Sait walks in as Mr. Nags (leaving everyone wondering who the intruder might be), as he looks for the director. Eventually, he walks into Kohli and introduces him as a member of the shoot and asks for the script.

Kohli, clearly not amused, hands him the script and displays angry looks on more than one occasion. The director clearly understands this as being a waste of players’ time and asks the intruder to leave “promising” him a major part in a movie, but not in this ad.

Well, it is about these Indian TV channels and production houses which are actually doing something smart for a change and that is such a welcome sign!

There used to be a time when all movies producers and TV producers used to stay away from releasing their films and shows while the cricket world cup was on. The simple reason is that no one wanted to take such a huge risk in this cricket crazy country and burn their money knowing well in advance that for two months of global sporting event, the audience is going to be glued to only matches and nothing else.

Then what happened this time?

For starters, none of the big movies are getting released during the World Cup 2015 and especially after India’s mind-blowing initial two matches, movie studios must be thanking their stars for not taking such a gamble. For TV, it is a different matter altogether.

This time the world cup matches are in the morning and they end well before the prime time kicks in. Hence a proper segregation of male and female viewers happens. The target audience will have access to the remote when the channels want them to have control! Secondly, more than a month is left before the IPL season kicks in and families switch off from daily soaps to domestic high voltage cricket!

That’s why next week is going to be super happening. Zee’s new channel &TV is getting launched on 2^nd March with as many as 7 new shows while a new show on Colors, Swaragini makes it entry at 9:30 P.M. Not only that, on 3^rd March, channel Zindagi will see the launch of a new show, Shikkan. In a matter of two days, 9 shows will mark their entry in your living rooms, giving you enough choices!

In a way it is good for audience to select the shows they want to see and if few of them do strike a chord with the fans, then channels can at least hope that those shows will be watched even during the IPL so that the revenues will not be affected. It is smart programming and smart entertainment to give the audience enough time to get used to a show and also for the TV producers to tweak their shows as per the audience likings and tastes.

For now, all eyes are set on Monday. Let’s see what’s in store for us. Don’t know if we’ll have any shows that can keep us hooked on despite IPL mania, but then you never know!

The 2015 IPL auction saw Yuvraj Singh emerge as the most expensive purchase in the format’s history ever when Delhi Daredevils bought him for 16 crore.

Three other expensive purchases were Dinesh Karthik, Angelo Mathews and Zaheer Khan – 10.5 crore, 7.5 crore and 4 crore, respectively.

At the end of the day, one buy surprised everyone when Kolkata Knight Riders paid 2.4 crore for KC Cariappa. This amount was twenty-four times his base price, which left everyone asking just one question – “Who is KC Cariappa?”

Full name Konganda Charamanna Cariappa is a 20-year-old Coorg-based leg spinner. Carri, as his local teammates prefer calling him, claim that his unique grip allows him to bowl off-spin, too.

Just like Ajantha Mendis of Sri Lanka, Cariappa is a mystery bowler.

At 5 feet 11 inches, he is unconventionally tall for a spin bowler. Other than his leg-spin and off-spin bowling, he has googly and a faster one in his arsenal.

Cariappa participated in the recently organised Karnataka Premier League where he represented the Bijapur Bulls taking 11 wickets in six matches. He was also part of the preliminary squad for Karnataka during the Ranji Trophy.

Former India opener Aakash Chopra tweeted an interesting fact about Cariappa that read – I’m told that last season Cariappa was with the KKR as a video analyst for a short while… If this tweet is anything to go by, the Karnataka leg-spinner has indeed come a long way.

The bowler is also accustomed to playing several tennis ball tournaments. Besides that, he also played for the Karnataka U-19 team.

During last year’s CLT20, Cariappa was one of the net bowlers; he managed to impress many players, who further encouraged him to give his name for the IPL auctions.

He was not carrying high hopes, but once the auction finished, he said, “Honestly, I never expected so much to be bid on me. I thought I might be picked up for Rs. 10 lakhs. I don’t know how to react to this. My family is so thrilled with the news. Right now my house is crowded with so many people wishing me well.”

Such a surprise being thrown at the IPL auction is not something new. Praveen Tambe impressed many former players as well as existing ones with his spin bowling while playing for the Rajasthan Royals.

This is the first time Yuvraj will be playing for the Daredevils. The team has had its share of ups and downs in former IPL editions. With Singh being included to their squad, their chances of lifting the 2015 IPL trophy definitely gets augmented.

This prediction comes at the back of Singh’s performance in the Ranji Trophy where he scored three back-to-back centuries for Punjab. Being out of this year’s ICC World Cup definitely hurt the Indian batsman and he would be willing to prove his worth.

Dinesh Karthik, on the other hand, has emerged as the second highest purchase with the Royal Challengers Bangalore buying him for 10.5 crore. The third highest buy is Sri Lanka’s Angelo Mathews, who has been bought for 7.5 crore by Delhi Daredevils. Royal Challengers showed great interest in buying the Sri Lankan all-rounder, too, but eventually surrendered to Daredevils.

Former Delhi Daredevils captain Kevin Pietersen was also predicted to sell highly to one of the IPL teams with his base price being 2 crore. He was sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad for his base price of 2 crore. Former Australian middle-order batsman Michael Hussey comes back home to Chennai Super Kings when the giants bought him for 1.5 crore.

The IPL 2015 auction has shocking names featuring in the unsold list – Hashim Amla, Zaheer Khan, Brad Hodge, Mahela Jayawardene, Tillakaratne Dilshan and Kumar Sangakkara, to name a few.

Post-IPL 2014, rumours were rife about Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals being left out of this year’s tournament due to supposed scandals. However, they will be featuring in the tournament and will be host to several matches, too.

With players like Yuvraj Singh changing teams, chances of underdogs like Delhi Daredevils become high.

This year’s is the eighth edition of the Indian Premier League and is set to begin on April 8, 2015.

Kabaddi – initiated into a league by the efforts of Star Sports (TV channel) and Mashal Sports, this small town game is now being broadcasted across the globe.

And thanks to its popularity before the kick-off, the Pro Kabaddi League attracted a whopping 22 million viewers, 10 times more than what the first match of the recently concluded Football World Cup 2014 in Brazil had garnered. Now, that’s some TRPs!

With a touch of Bollywood into it, the Pro Kabaddi League has every ingredient to be a grand success. Bollywood stars such as Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and even former India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, were amongst the celebs that were at the inauguration of the league event.

The presence of the stars could be one reason for its increase in the viewership but also the rich history associated with it.

India is a hub of various types of games right from ‘kho-kho’ to ‘gilli danda’ but Kabaddi takes on another form itself. Cricket in India is considered as a major sport with the likes of football, hockey, tennis etc languishing behind. The Indian Premier League might have changed the way towards cricket viewership but also paved way for other sports to take up its own version of IPL. Besides the Pro Kabaddi League, the Sony Six channel also airs the World Kabaddi League which is ongoing in the United Kingdom. Bollywood stars Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi have also pledged their support towards the league.

The Pro Kabaddi League might not have swept the fans of its feet, but in years to come could be one of the top contenders for the likes of IPL and also the English Premier League.

The league that has a total of eight teams – Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi, Jaipur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Pune and Vishakapatnam are currently battling it out to win the first ever Pro Kabaddi League title. Going by the current table, U Mumba (Mumbai) and Jaipur Pink Panthers are leading top two sides in the table. But with games in hands, the likes of Patna Pirates and Telugu Titans can easily catch up on the front runners.

The owners of the franchises include some of who’s who of Indian industry with entrepreneur Ronnie Screwvala for Mumbai, the Future Group for Kolkata, Insurekot Sports (Kotak Group) for Pune and Abhishek Bachchan for Jaipur.

Kabaddi is still in its adolescent years but in given time and money provided, the former could catch the steps of accomplishment and recognition for years to come.

After a year of turmoil on the field, ‘shamed’ cricketer S. Sreesanth returns back on the screen, but perhaps in a new avatar as he hops on to his dancing shoes in the famous dance reality show, ‘Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa’ season 7.

The cricketer will be part of the dance reality show that will take place on Colors TV soon with a host of celebs competing for the top spot. Cricketer Sreesanth is not new to a dance shows as he has learned break dancing and street dancing in his school days and even performed at events. He was also part of the 2008 dance reality show, ‘Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena’ where he partnered TV actress, Surveen Chawla.
