All the 20 teams were involved in the 2014-15 start of the English Premier League which is quite popular in Asia mostly India.

The title favourites, Manchester City, Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal all collected victories in their opening campaigns of the new season except for Manchester United.

The Wayne Rooney-led side lost to Swansea City 2-1 under their new manager, Louis Van Gaal.

With an exciting campaign upon us, here’s the 5 things that we learnt over the weekend:

1 – Manchester United have a serious catch-up on their hands
Even with a successful pre-season behind them, Manchester United were brought falling down by a defiant Swansea City at the vigorous Old Trafford. After the defeat, many fans demanded for more signings with only the likes of Luke Shaw and Ander Herrera coming in. If the Red Devils are to compete with the ‘bigger boys’, the club board and the manager need to bring in some big names and with quality.

2 – The ‘magic spray’ is yet to find its feet
After a hit at the FIFA World Cup in Brazil, the vanishing spray made its entry into the Premier League after the FA and EPL authorities gave a green light to it. The spray has been picked up by leagues across Europe and was a major hit on the opening day of the league especially with the crowds. Though, there’s still a lot to be desired of it the vanishing spray as the English referees were still dumbfounded when using it on the pitch.

3 – Chelsea and Manchester City are in for a big party
Liverpool and Arsenal can surge a title bid but it’s the ‘giants’ Manchester City and Chelsea who raked in the vanilla points. If City boasts some of the top names in Sergio Aguero, David Silva, Vincent Kompany, Aleksandar Kolarov and Samir Nasri; Chelsea’s Diego Costa, Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard could frighten any opposition defense. With these two biggies around, the EPL is for a yet another rollicking finish.

4 – Arsenal need a couple of names more
Though Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has recruited some quality names in the likes of Alexis Sanchez, Calum Chambers and Mathieu Debuchy, the Gunners’ still lack the quality in the final third. Even with forward Olivier Giroud in the ranks, Arsenal needs a forward and a defender to fill up the empty void.

5 – Liverpool surge ahead post-Suarez era
Liverpool showed that they can survive without their talismanic forward Luis Suarez who signed for Barcelona by comprehensively beating Southampton 2-1. With over 70m spend in the transfer market, manager Brendan Rodgers wants his club to go all the way again and claim the coveted title.
