Yet again famous or you may say infamous Punjabi rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh is in news for singing Party All Night from the movie Boss. The song actually has some offensive terms and a PIL has also been registered against the film makers. The court has requested the makers to change the lyrics before release and this is not the first time such a decision has been announced. Songs from the olden days not only had melodious tunes but also a meaning that would render your heart. But nowadays songs are really made without any interest from the side of the music director and the lyrics have just stopped making any sense.

Item songs may have become a mandatory part of movies but not every time a lyricist has to make the songs in a sleazy tone, so much so that even if a person wants to enjoy listening to it he/she can’t around parents or elders. I personally had a tough time adjusting to listen to Choli Ke Peeche or even Sheila Ki Jawaani. How can one croon about someone’s blossoming youth which is too sexy to handle!?

While I was still trying to adjust with this, the lyricists went a step ahead and have now started using abusive terms in songs. Now why would they do that? How do they expect the songs to become popular when no one in their right mind would sing an abuse loudly?

Critics will say it affects young, impressionable minds and the so-called experts think that these songs are responsible for rape and molestation. Frankly, I don’t think the language of the song is responsible for anything but yes if an art form like movies start to lose their meaning then I do have a problem and I will object. Songs are meant to be enjoyed listening to, danced on and to help you go down memory lane. Not cringe.

Here are some recent songs that have lyrics you can’t really lip sync to unless…you have a dirty mind!

Party All Night – Boss

The song serenades a woman’s body parts comparing it to guns and bullets.

Ghaziabad ki Rani – Zilla Ghaziabad

The song suggests the dancer isn’t to be taken as your father’s property. “Apne Baap ka na samjho maal”

Dan Dan Cheeni – Department

While the lyrics are strictly okay of this song but the gyrating moves and cheap angle shots compelled me to add this song in this list.

The very feminine, soft spoken Shraddha Kapoor as Arohi in Aashiqui 2 will be playing a very different role in The Villain. The character Shraddha played in Aashiqui 2 was very similar to her real life persona. But according to rumors the look change for the movie The Villain will be in huge contrast from her personality as well.

Our sources suggest that Shraddha is all pumped up for this transformation and is actually looking forward to see how things work out.

With The Villain, Shraddha will also reunite with her Aashiqui 2 director, Mohit Suri. When asked in one of the recent events about this reunion Shraddha said, “I am very excited to work again with Mohit and that too right after Aashiqui 2. So it’s a great feeling.”

An Ekta Kapoor production, Shraddha will play the female lead opposite Sidharth Malothra in The Villain. After witnessing success in Aashiqui 2 she believes she’s in a good place in life and has no regrets whatsoever.

Her debut movie Teen Patti didn’t do quite well at the box office but after being appreciated for her good work in Aashiqui 2 Shraddha has not looked back.

The multi faceted Shomshukhlla adds another feather to her cap as debutante director of her first Hinglish feature film titled ‘Sandcastle’, which has earned swiping nominations in Tenerife and London international film festival as well as the screening in Hollywood LA femme fest.

Sandcastle, written and directed by Shomshuklla, is the story of the journey of a woman in modern India, finding her identity. This film, nothing short of a work of art has been made on a small budget but has gone on to make a mark at an International platform.

Shomshuklla is one multi-talented personality. She has dabbled in several forms of art, each being extremely successful. She began her career in the late 90’s as a pop singer cutting 9 music albums in 10 years being their artist. Acquiring more skill and knowledge in the field Shomshukhlla redefined her art by recording world music a fusion rendition of Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore’s songs thus taking the legendary Tagore’s songs to world platform.

In 2006 she released her first book of poems called ‘I have seen that face before by Rupa and co.’ and in the subsequent years came 5 more English poetry by her as well as 2 Bengali books of poems.

In 2012 she directed her first Hinglish feature film ‘Sandcastle’, which has been nominated for prestigious screenings and film festivals globally. The movie has been nominated in the Best Foreign Language Feature Film category at the London International Film Festival (LIFF) 2013 and prides itself with four nominations at the Tenerife International Film Festival 2013 in London on October 12, including nods for Best Feature Film, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor and Best Cinematography.

Rekha puts the glam in glam diva and is the only personality to carry off the tag so easily. She maybe turning 59 but at heart she knows she’s still that naïve 16 year old. Like many of you I have grown up watching Rekha’s movies and have been impressed by her larger-than-life persona. Today on her birthday, I don’t want to talk about the amazing performances she has done because we already know a lot about it. I don’t even want to talk about her alleged affairs especially with a certain Big B. This article is about the Rekha I have seen growing up some of her movies which are a part of my formative years and these roles of hers will always remain the ones I remember her by.

Khoobsurat

A movie by Hrishikesh Mukherjee Rekha played the role of Manju and her character very easily taught the others how to live life to the fullest. As a kid I have watched this movie countless times and Rekha’s image of a young girl with rosy lips and two plaits I still consider it more sexy than most of today’s bold actresses.

Sansar

A very simple and plain looking Rekha as Uma Shankar is the daughter-in-law of the house who when the family gets divided into two parts plays an instrumental role in rejoining them. Rekha’s de-glam avatar was praiseworthy to say the least.

Khoon Bhari Maang

I obviously remember this movie for more reasons than Rekha. I am talking about those deadly crocodiles and the scene when they eat Rekha and leave the pond bloody. As a kid for the first time when I watched it the crocodiles scared the s**t out of me! Coming back to Rekha she was par excellence. From being a plain jane in the first half to transforming into a glam diva in the second half, Rekha dazzled in this movie and proved that she’s more than just a pretty face.

Silsila

Who hasn’t watched Yash Chopra’s saga of love triangle. This movie is one of the biggest highlights of Rekha’s career and her chemistry with Amitabh Bachchan was the talk of the town then. In one of his last interviews Yash Chopra has confessed that Rekha and Big B were dating while shooting this movie despite him being married then. Well, love can make you do things and apparently Rekha was truly, madly, deeply committed to it. I love the songs of this movie because it gives you the feel that it’s too close to reality.

 Khilaladiyon Ka Khiladi

From being a young starlet Rekha had suddenly changed into a mid-age actress who was desperately trying to keep her acting career alive. Her role opposite Akshay Kumar may seem like she’s trying to overdo it for some but I think that despite her age Rekha truly made this move epic. In particular this song might give some of you the creeps but has anyone noticed how hot Rekha looks?

Dil Cheez Kya Hai – Umrao Jaan

I confess I haven’t watched this classic movie but thanks to my mother I have watched this song at least a 100 times and love every bit of Rekha in it. Nobody can look as beautiful as her and do a mujra so gracefully. Not even Aishwarya Rai who made an attempt in the remake of Umraojaan. This is the image of Rekha that is etched in my mind since childhood and I would always like to remember her this way.

Every season Bigg Boss has to have at least one couple madly in love with each other. And it’s bound to happen since they are locked in a house with 13-odd individuals for 90 days and have nowhere to go. We as audiences have seen couples make up and break up in the Bigg Boss house and to be honest it does add an interesting angle to the show. While most of the celebrities do it for getting attention from viewers, who knows maybe some actually get struck by cupid’s arrow!

True or not is another discussion altogether but season 7 too has managed to live up to its traditions and besides the already married couple Shilpa and Apurva Agnihotri we have two ‘newly in love’ pairs: Gauahar and Kushal, Tanisha and Armaan Kohli. OMG! Both couples seem to be creating a buzz in the house considering their close relations which puts the other contestants in danger. While we are at it, let’s take a look at some of the previous seasons’ lovebirds who in their time went to extreme lengths to get publicity.

Anupama Verma – Aryan Vaid

They were the first real ‘lovey dovey’ couple of Bigg Boss right in season 1. I remember watching them being all flirty with each other but the moment Anupama got evicted Aryan changed colors faster than a chameleon and totally forgot about the bombshell. So obviously the love story didn’t continue after the show and currently Aryan is married to photographer Alexandra Copley.

Payal Rohtagi – Rahul Mahajan

They put the sleazy in sleaze really. Their love affair turned highly inappropriate to watch on national television as Rahul would often be seen giving oil massages to Payal, kissing her randomly and even slapping her but. Why?! They tried to keep with their passionate love for each other outside the house but soon broke up and rumours suggest that Rahul even Payal Rs.1 crore to be a part of his show ‘Rahul Dulhaniya Le Jayenge’ with the aim of marrying her at the end but Payal humbly refused. Today her boyfriend Sangram Singh is a contestant on Bigg Boss 7 and Rahul is having a troubled marriage with his show winner Dimpy Mahajan.

Ashmit Patel – Veena Malik

Following in the footsteps of their seniors, Ashmit and Veena too displayed too much public affection making us cringe each time they were together. I have still not forgotten visuals of Veena cuddling Ashmit in her lap and those ‘coochie-coochie’ moments under the blanket. Yikes! While the love story fizzled outside Bigg Boss house, the two have returned together in the movie Superstar which released recently.

Pravesh Rana – Claudia Ciesla

Having a firang in the house has its advantages as the boys usually then flirts by the simplest way possible – teaching Hindi! Pravesh adopted the same idea and soon became close friends with French beauty Claudia. This was one sweet love story which unfortunately didn’t last for a long time. Last Pravesh was seen in Tigmanshu Dhulia’s ‘Saheb Biwi aur Gangster Returns’ and Claudia was seen shaking her booty in the song ‘Balma’ from Khilardi 786.

Pooja Bedi – Akashdeep Saigal

These two are the only ones who have managed to remain together even outside Bigg Boss house. While their very much public affair was on Pooja and Akashdeep stood by each other through every problem and acted like a pillar till the very end. A rare sight to see in a house like a Bigg Boss!! The two are still very much together and seems to have passed the test of time!

Sana Khan – Vishal Karwal

Since they were already friends before Bigg Boss so everyone assumed them to be together inside the house too and eventually with so much of teasing around the two actually got close and became a real couple. Whiel the problem called Rajev Paul was always between them only when Vishal got evicted and met Sana again in the finale the equation seemd to had changed and looked like the romance died. Sad. But more shocking was to see Vishal date another contestant from the same season, Karishma Kotak, right after then show got over. How unbelievable…not!

Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s movies have always looked like these in-depth, vast paintings with every character playing a larger-than-life role. And with the same style of filmmaking he’s back with Ram-Leela, a love story set in the land of Gujarat and the two lovers, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, are at war. Very Romeo- Juliet-esque.

After watching the official trailer and three song teasers I felt there was something strikingly familiar about the look and feel of the movie. While Deepika and Ranveer look perfect don’t they remind you of some other beautifully paired couple? Some couple who has worked with Bhansali before and created a masterpiece? Okay, let’s cut it short. You know that I am talking about Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Salman Khan who spread their magic in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Don’t you agree that the two leading pairs have too much of resemblance in terms of their characters?

Okay, let’s take it step-by-step. The first promo that came out was the official trailer in which if you notice that Deepika’s character is dressed very much like Nandini of HDDCS. Also since both movies are set in Gujarat the look and feel automatically feels resonating. Watch the trailer here.

Then comes the song ‘Tattad Tattad’ in which Ranveer can be seen flaunting his six-pack abs and that yummilicious body. Now who else does that? Of course Salman Khan! He even did go topless in one of the scenes in HDDCS because really that’s his forte. I dare you, just close your eyes and imagine Salman doing ‘Tattad Tattad’ and you will see the similarities! Next they released the Garba song of the year ‘Nagada Sang Dhol Baaje’. Even HDDCS had a Garba song called ‘Dholi Taaro’ which became even more popular after the release since Salman was seen doing it in all award functions. In Nagada too Deepika will remind you of Aishwarya Rai but yes, DPad has definitely done a better job at doing Garba.

Now before I could put away all these pointers as just silly notions a new song from Ram Leela was released, ‘Lahu Munh Lag Gaya’. Now please watch this song and then watch the popular song ‘Aankhon ki Gustakhiyan’ from HDDCS and tell me seriously if it just isn’t too alike? In both the songs the hero is trying to get intimate with the heroine and while during HDDCS Ash and Salman only had to get an inch closer to create that moment, in Ram-Leela Deepika and Ranveer take it a step further and kiss. Because now kissing is just normal! But this is the only difference, rest everything be it Ranveer’s flustered reaction after being kissed, the clumsiness of being close to each other. It’s like Aankhon ki…reloaded!

Maybe Bhansali wanted to recapture the charm of Salman and Aishwarya’s characters from HDDCS and infuse it with Deepika and Ranveer’s roles in Ram-Leela or maybe he was just running out of ideas. But inspiration is only good till a point, if crossed then it starts to seem like a copy. While I totally loved Ash and Salman in HDDCS since their pairing brought a whole new dimension to the movie I’m hoping Deepika and Ranveer too manage to do the same. Wait a minute, when HDDCS was shot Salman and Aishwarya were very much a couple and so are Deepika and Ranveer now. Destiny is a cruel game!

Wow, now that’s a mean feat! But Yash Raj Films have been smart about their promotions and right after they released the teaser they came out with a motion poster for Dhoom 3 keeping the momentum on videos up.

There are some movies that you can watch endlessly in parts and sequels but some that when finished you breathe a sigh of relief and pray that the story ends forever. But looks like our producers don’t get that point and they keep stretching the story in sequels and more sequels!

Masti was such a fun, clean adult comedy to watch in its time and look what they did with the sequel Grand Masti. The movie may have earned crores but you know in your heart that the lame adult jokes were right down perverse. Similarly there are so many sequels releasing one after the other like the Krrish series that you tend to forget what was the original storyline!

Here’s our list of movies which we thought were so aptly concluded that they don’t need sequel. Filmmakers, please stay away from these movies!

Andaaz Apna Apna: Such a cult movie and so well made by Rajkumar Santoshi. Today as we know the characters are legendary to say the least and almost all of them are remembered for their epic dialogues. Rumour has it that Santoshi is working on a script for a remake but probably with a new set of actors. Hmm, remake is fine but the moment you start turning the story into what happens to Amar and Prem after 20 years you lose the fans there!

Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge: This movie is every girl’s fantasy film. Let’s accept it we all are looking for our Raj and to feel gratified by having a happy and melodramatic ending like Raj and Simran. But do we want to see what happened to our happy couple after marriage? If the woes of wedding vows destroyed all the love between the two? Nah, who wants to see such harsh realities!

Sholay: Okay, I will not deny that it might be interesting to see if ever Gabbar Singh’s long lost son or daughter comes back to take revenge and start a whole new saga. But as the rule goes, never ever play around with a classic and that too Sholay. Bahut na insafi hai!

Ra.One: Are you kidding me? Wasn’t the first tort..err…movie enough? So okay SRK tried to do a superhero flick but there ends the attempt. After Ra.One released Shahrukh did confirm plans of making a sequel but is now finding it difficult to get suitable technicians to work on VFX. Thanks to the God of Technicians, whoever he is!

Hum Aapke Hain Kaun: A perfect family movie made legendary by its melodious music, heart warming stoyline and brilliant set of actors. The movie explored all relations within families taking you on a ride of emotions from being romantic to laughing your guts to out to crying copious tears. The movie even had an adorable dog Tuffy who played such an important part in climax! And songs which made you feel you’re watching someone’s wedding video.

Now do you want to see so many amazing moments being spoiled? If this movie was made into a sequel then I bet it will resemble all our daily soaps, probably out beat them! I love my Prem and Nisha and even obnoxious gossipy Bindu as they were in the movie. So thank you but I say no to sequels!
