Maggi is not only the ultimate-resort- food, but also something that all the hostelers could unite for.

Most of you would agree with me on this. You have tried experimenting your culinary skills in making maggi with a twist. Have you not? When bored or completing assignment during odd hours, you’d just step into kitchen and think of all the weird things you could add upto maggi to make it all the more, killer (wink). Not sure if your so called dish turned out to be great, but meri timepass wali Maggi turned out to be good. To make your Maggi more interesting try these…

Maggi Cutlet:

Take two slices of bread. Dip in water for 3-4 minutes. While the slices get soaked in water, prepare maggi in a saucepan, like you’d do normally. Next, take the water soaked slices, an apt amount of maggi to stuff and bind it tightly within. Make sure not to put too much of stress on the slices. Deep fry in a vessel or if you’re health conscious, bake in an oven. Serve with ketchup.

Maggi Subway:

Cook maggi and keep aside. Take a subway bread. You could also use normal bread slices, incase you don’t have subway. Slice veggies of your choice. I like to add cucumber, tomato, onion and jalapenos to mine. Slice the sub lengthwise, stuff the veggies,and maggi,and add choices and toppings of your choice. Serve.

Poha Maggi:

Crush 2 packs of Maggi Atta noodles before opening the pack. Cook till all the water is absorbed. Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds(optional), peanuts(optional), tomatoes, onions. Cook till golden brown. Add chopped boiled potatoes, green chillies and peas. Add the noodles. Simmer for five minutes. Serve hot with chutney.

4. Envy is the new excuse 

No, that project did not go out of your hand because people are jealous of you. It was probably because you did not think they way someone else did. Rather than taking things pessimistically, you need to start thinking about the way you did not think of that solution.

If you take a look at all those people who succeeded in life and left a mark on history, you’ll notice that most of them went out of the usual way. You need not follow all of those rules religiously. Change is good. The end result is all that matters.

and India- where there is no better way of traveling other than trains.

The Indian subcontinent is divided into twenty nine states and seven union territories.

Every state has a different culture, a different language, different dressing sense and people of all religion residing in them. However, there are a number of times, you feel that things are not different, but used in a different way, which results in the diversity.

The other day, I was standing at Malad station in Mumbai, waiting to board a local to Churchgate.

A train had just entered the station when I reached. However, I had to board a slow train and the one that arrived was fast. So, I kept my distance from the platform, as people would be rushing to board, and looked at the chart, for the schedule.

Suddenly, I heard a commotion. Three guys saw the train standing, from the overbridge and jumped off a good flight of stairs. The engine stood exactly where the stairs ended. Meanwhile, one of the guys, peeped into the engine, and told the driver hurriedly, A bhai. Rukna jara (brother, please wait for a moment) and ran off to the gents compartment.

The other two guys did the same. Inspired by all of this, a fourth guy tried to tell the engine driver to wait for him too. The engine driver, annoyed, waved his hand at the fourth guy, yelled at him and started the train within a minute.

Many of you might think of the situation as one of the reasons India is lagging, as compared to other countries. Trains are never on time, there’s corruption and criminalism all over, people killing each other, regionism, and what-not.

I, however, cannot stop laughing thinking about the incident. The train stood at the station because the line wasn’t clear. The guys took advantage of the situation and boarded the train. But what’s adorable is that the driver, though annoyed, did not start until the guys had got on.

This is what, according to me, sets us apart. This, is what defines what India is. The driver could have easily started after the second guy came running. They were just like any other passenger to him. He probably would have hit the ignition when the third guy came running. Yet the train stood for another minute- a whole lot of 2000 people waiting for another four to board. It happens only in India, indeed.  

We may disagree at various levels, there might be differences between communities, ideology and customs. But deep down every Indian is fundamentally united and you cannot deny that.

“Tell me about yourself”

You make sure that you leave out nothing important when you answer the question. Telling about yourself, keeping in mind the time constraint, is difficult for you and for anybody else. While the hiring manager knows quite a number of things about now, it is time you knew a little, if not much, about him or her. On a personal level, you may find it a little weird knowing about the hiring manager, but that is how you build contacts. If you bag the job, you’ll have someone who knows about you in the new place, and if not, well, you’ll at least have built a professional contact.

“What have you enjoyed the most about working here?”

Having struck a professional chord already, this question makes the interviewer connect with you more on personal level. When a hiring manager tells you about his/her best experience of working in the organization, it gives you an insight about how could the place turn out to be, for you. Generally, the manager does not hesitate to answer this, in case he does, it’s time you think about accepting the offer letter, if you receive one, that is.

“I want to know more about my job profile”

Obviously, you applied for the job only after you knew of the key skills and job responsibilities required. But the answer might tell you if you’re selected for the job or not. Notice how the recruiter answers it. You asking this question explain two things. First that, your manager gets to know about your enthusiasm regarding profile, and second, you assure the recruiting personnel that you’ll carry your job responsibilities perfectly.

“One major problem you faced while starting with this organization”

Say, that you did not qualify the interview according to the recruiter until you showed your interest in his or her. Asking about the problem faced during his/her initial days with this organization will not only tell you more about the organization, but also will give you a brief insight about the team and work culture.

“Why did I get shortlisted for the interview?”

A great open-ended question, that will make the interviewer put his/her cards on the table. Apart from knowing about the good points in your CV, and what made your CV get shortlisted, it will also showcase your confidence and interactive skills to the hiring manager.

“How is the company growing?”

Before you ask this question, make sure you’ve done your bit of research on the company. Know about their new products and plans and then demonstrate your interest by asking the question. Apart from making the manager interested in hiring you, the question will also tell you about how will you grow with the organization.

Going for an interview does not always mean that you’re going to be interrogated.

Try asking relevant questions to the interviewer.

When things take you by surprise, it can be hard to think clearly and make the right decision. You have probably not given it a thought to ask your insurance agent/counsellor about this, but you ought to know what exactly is to be done incase you suffer a road accident. Here’s a list of things that should ‘Not’ be done when it comes to your automobiles’ insurance…

Accepting fault and apologising

Don’t assume that the accident was your fault. Since you are not familiar with the rules of the road, your apologizing could blemish the police report and it might turn out that your insurance company ends up paying for the damages of the other party.

Making a back-door deal

Don’t agree to pay for the other driver’s vehicle damages in exchange for his silence. In that monent the other driver may try to strike a deal with you, agreeing not to call his insurer or yours, but later change his mind.

Bottomline: the driver who received the money denies ever getting paid and collects twice and you get charged with an at fault accident anyway.

Authorize repairs immediately

Wait until you have discussed the whole thing with your insurance advisor. The advisor may refer you to a repair facility with which your insurance company has an agreement.  It might be possible that with the insurer’s preferred repair facility, the repair comes with a guarantee which you may not have otherwise received by going somewhere else.

Forget to take photographs of the accident

You’ve heard it right- A picture is worth a thousand words. You probably don’t know that photos of the position of each vehicle right after an accident is important. They depict how far into a turn a vehicle was or how far out of a parking space a vehicle was; which will in turn decide the guilty.

Arguing with the other driver in the middle of the road

If you get into an auto accident on a busy road or highway, pull off the vehicle on the side of the road. Don’t argue with the other driver for a long time. Instead, remain calm and inform the police.

Prep time: 10 minutes
Serves: One

What you need:
2 tbsp sattu
1 glass of cold/normal water
1 tsp roasted cumin powder
1 ½ tsp black salt
2 tsp lime juice
2 -3 cubes of ice

How to make:
Mix sattu, cumin powder, black salt and lime juice in water. Stir till sattu dissolves completely. Add ice cubes and savour.

Rather than putting your feet up and letting work come to you, take an approach and help your colleagues with their tasks. The impression he/she will perceive of you is a team player- a quality which is one of the foremost things required for a team player.

Last, but not the least, if you’ve tried all of these, and there’s not much difference anyway, be confident and approach your boss about the matter.

1. Career success rate is determined by your performance

This is not even close to true. I had always been told to study hard and get the best on-campus placement. Nevertheless, I turned out to be an above average student. I wasn’t really suprised, but from a personal experience, let me tell you that what you score in exams has nothing to do with the knowledge you possess. That might help you decide your interests and disinterests, but nothing more than that.

2. Hostel food is always horrible

I am not generalizing here, but just making a point. Even when you’re home and have the same food almost everyday, there comes a time when the food just does not go down your epiglottis. Considering the same, how do you expect the mess food to be something-new-on-the-menu type everyday? I was not very fond of the mess food, but at the same time, it never made me say, “I feel like puking, thinking about the mess food”. Change is good. Following a routine is better.

3. Your faculty is an alien

As intimidating as it seems to be, reaching out to your professors, is not that difficult. I am sure, you guys wouldn’t really agree with me and take them to be your worst born enemies until you pass out of college, but trust me, it is not that difficult. A minute of after class chatting or a visit to office hours or even a greeting works good. And as far as, topping the charts on scores, there might be a reason as to why they haven’t awarded you a ten on ten for your paper. Talk and clarify.

4. Just one heartthrob or Miss Prettiest in the neighbourhood

If you’ve made an assumption of college life, based on movies, either from Hollywood or Bollywood, I’d say, you could star in a sequel to SOTY. There is no guy like Hrithik Roshan in K3G or Alia Bhatt in SOTY in college. Yes, there are people who are famous, mostly because of their grades or because they win a contest. The largest film studio complex in the world, Ramoji Film City is flocked by thousands of tourists every year. One of the largest tourist destinations of Asia, the spot offers you spectacular locations for shooting, entertainment, games and other movie related stuff. Some of the hit songs shot here are Ooh La La from The dirty Picture and Dreamum Wakeuppam from Aiyya.

When I joined my graduation course, people told me that I would have to undergo at least one internship to complete graduation; it was a part of our curriculum. Then, I had just wondered about how difficult is it going to be.

Reaching the end of college life, when I turned to take a look at what I’d learnt all those years, I knew I had to thank my college for implementing industrial training and internship as a part of our curriculum or else I would never have learnt what I did.

An internship is meant for you, to gain practical knowledge of the subject while you’re still studying. They fetch your C.V. more points as compared to others. While you study, all you gain is theoritical knowledge. But the practical hands-on approach will not just add up to the value of your degree but also make you more thorough with the subject. Employers look for a candidate with good internship background, before they decide to zero him/her for the job.

Earlier internships weren’t looked upon as an essential part of your degree, as students gained practical knowledge along with theoritical knowledge. However, times have changed. Today, it shares the same importance as graduation.

While you intern at different organisations, you get to know more about the scope of your field.  For example, if you are an undergraduate pursuing B.Com or BMM or Bachelors in Journalism, you could try interning as a writer, SEO expert, SMO expert or anything related to media field. Exploring opportunities will help you choose the best in you. Also, it is very likely that the organisation which hired you as an intern will hire you as a fresher as well. Because you know the way things are done there and you don’t have to be given instructions for every petty thing, you will be preferred over other candidates.

The continued uncertainty in placements has filtered down students, soon-to-be graduates feeling unprepared for the working world. Call folks for support: Dealing with a breakup all by yourself could be tough. Look upto your friends for support. Allow them to help you get over the grief and discuss the troubles with them. Try to refocus on work, hobbies or get a pet. They are said to be the perfect bait to help you get out of a crisis situation.

Musical form and structure reduces emotional distress and produces a sense of calmness and familiarity within you.
