It wouldn’t be wrong to call Mary Kom a wonder woman.

She has won the world championship title for five times, the bronze medal at the Olympics and the gold medal in Asia. She has worked hard for herself and for the nation as well. A medal is not just a medal for her, but a question of life and death.

So she just put all her strength to achieve it. Similarly, she did in the 13th Silesian boxing tournament.

Yes, Mary recently went to participate in the 13th Silesian boxing tournament in Gilroy, Poland, and there she reduced 2 kg weight in just four hours to participate in this tournament.

Mary Kom’s Passion Is Unbeatable

Mary is a great motivation for all of us, her passion for winning is just unbeatable. There is a saying: A passionate person can break all the records! And Mary Kom is a living example which suits the most to this saying.

As we told you Kom had lost two kilos in four hours to qualify. While completing the journey to Poland, where all the players were resting, Mary Kom was sweating to lose weight.

She Won The Gold

She also found the fruit of her hard work. After all the hard work always pays off. So, she managed to win the gold medal in the same tournament for which she lost 2 kg in just four hours.

She was overweight to participate in the tournament

When Mary Kom reached there to participate in the recently concluded 13th Silesian boxing tournament in Galway, Poland, she was little overweight to participate. So the officials told her that she is not eligible to participate in this category. But who can stop Mary Kom! She took four hours and reduced those extra 2 Kgs.

She Skipped Rope For Continues Four Hours

After a long journey to Poland, Indian boxer MC Mary Kom started skipping rope and continued the same for next four hours. And then she magically lost 2 KG and qualified the category.

Won The Third Gold Medal Of The Year

After reducing her weight she won the third gold medal of the year. After five years of World Champion, Mary Kom returned home.’

Mary Will Participate In 2020 Olympics

Mary Kom is 35-year-old, generally, athletes take retirement at this age but this is not the case with Mary Kom. She is perfectly fit and will participate in the 2020 Olympics.

She said, “The world championships to be held in November will not be my last tournament. I’m not going anywhere in the 2020 Olympics unless I am fit. I know my shortcomings but I also know about my strong sides. If there is an injury then I will think about the next plan.

We must say that the passion can inspire to do anything.

This was earlier only applicable to kids born in big metro cities and their counterparts living in small towns and villages of India only looked up to such idols! For them, even dreaming of a dream was an impossible task. However, times are changing now and anybody born in any part of the country can make it big in life. One of the reasons is the mindset these youngsters from small towns have.

Here’s a look at the major factors resulting in youngsters achieving their dreams!

1) Right environment

Firstly, the nation is on the cusp of creating history and it is not possible without the youth of the country making significant contribution to the process. The right kind of environment is there where in talented and skilled people are in demand as well as they are given right kind of opportunities to make it big! It doesn’t matter if one is from a small town or big town as long as he/she is deserving of the job!

2) Fire in the belly!

Since the youth realizes the fact that any dream is possible now, youngsters from small towns come to big cities and out in their best. The fire in them to live their life on their terms is way too strong to be diminished by petty obstacles in their path!

3) Self-belief

Media has made inroads in the hinterlands of the country and people have access to TV’s and Internet. This gives the youth living there a wide exposure to the world and makes their self-belief even stronger that they can achieve too.

4) Survival Instinct

After being born with basic or less than basic infrastructure in their lives, the survival instincts of these youngsters is very strong. Not only are they able to survive the ordeals after coming in a big metro, they are also able to keep their dreams intact and work double hard to make it happen!

5) Being lonely helps

Everyone needs support of friends and family to tide over the crisis of life, but the youth that leaves the comforts of home to make their dreams come true don’t have that support system. However, instead of getting discouraged, this loneliness and the urge to be self-dependant help them to further fight out the adversities of life. This results in being more self-aware and be able to face the odds of life with much more confidence and conviction.

6) Not getting it easy

These guys don’t get anything easy. Some of them travel thousands of kilometres on buses, trains etc. to finally reach their place of job or business. Hence they value it more and put in more hours to make sure that they retain it and even grow in their respective professions.

7) Deserving

Who sad small town people are not deserving or anywhere less than the big city guys? Well, these boys and girls are well deserving and equal to anyone else in the world. The right kind of opportunities and deep-rooted passion for success makes them special and super successful!

If you’re still wondering which these small town success stories are, think about boxer Vijendar Singh and Mary Kom, actress Kangna Ranaut, singer Brijesh Shandilya, cricketer M.S.Dhoni and many many more!

Life is beautiful guys and you can achieve anything that you want to! Don’t let your background or place of living restrict you from being the one you are born for!

World Cup 2015 just went by and the entire country collectively cheered and booted at every run scored, and every catch missed. They cheered for many sports players that are perhaps oceans apart.

Recently an international tennis star was belittled for being unaware of a celebrated Indian cricketer. We ridiculed her for not knowing a male cricketer in India. And that is only one example! Really?

How do we justify our own ignorance and insensitivity to scores of other prodigious sports talent in India? Especially the women stars! The Government, sports authorities, the media and the society can all share the blame.

In the last decade, we have done a great disservice to the country’s sports players by letting such glorious women talent waste and slowly wither away. Women sports players have it tougher than the grind. The lives of many women sports persons have ended on a miserable note in India.

We all know the struggles that the celebrated sports girls like Dutee Chand and Mary Kom had to go through! Apart from a few glamourised names like Sania Mirza and Saina Nehwal, most have a miserable story to share because CRICKET IS THE ONLY SPORTS IN INDIA AND CRICKETERS ARE THE ONLY SPORTS STARS!

Here you go!

Read and celebrate real Indian Sports!

The Archery Champ – Nisha Rani Dutta

This young former archery champ is living in dire circumstances. She’s represented India abroad and won many accolades: a silver medal at the 2008 South Asian Federation Championship in Jharkhand, a bronze medal at the 2006 Bangkok Grand Prix, and the Best Player Award in the 2007 Asian Grand Prix in Taiwan. After such an illustrious career, tragedy struck when she was forced to sell her archery bow for Rs. 50,000. A heavy spell of rains caused her house to collapse. Her trainer had gifted her the bow, which was worth about Rs. 4lakh. She failed even to get a bank loan to pursue sports education. Her family members didn’t have enough land, besides, she didn’t have a guarantor to show for applying for a loan. “When I participated in events for the country, nobody recognised me. I felt disappointed, and I decided to sell my bow as I had no options left.” Things had to get to such a grim stage until help reached this fallen player.

The Hockey Champion – Nauri Mundu

She quit hockey five years ago. This ex-hockey player from Jharkhand also won many awards. She has represented the National team 19 times. She was awarded the best hockey player ward by former Chief Minister of Bihar. She won bronze in Nehru Girls Hockey Tournament and National Women’s Games, among several other accolades. She now teaches at Mahil, a private school run by an NGO. Besides teaching, she also has to engage in farming because she earns merely Rs. 5,000 from her teacher’s job, which is not sustainable for her family. “I have put my best foot forward, but I soon realised that without adequate funds I won’t be able to support my family,” she said, “I would have continued if I had been helped by the government, much like it does with cricket players. I moved pillar to post but without any respite.”

Olympic Bronze Winner – Sita Sahu

A 15-year-old wonder did India proud and won two bronze medals in a 200 and 1600 meter race at the 2011 Athens Special Olympic. And how did her country repay her back? This bronze Olympian now sells paani puri along with her family back in her village in Madhya Pradesh. After her father fell sick, Sita discontinued going to school and started working full time to sustain her family. The State Government had announced a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh for gold, Rs 75,000 for silver and Rs 50,000 for bronze winners. Sahu won two bronze medals and was entitled to receive a cash prize of Rs. 1lakh. However, she didn’t receive a penny. After news reports highlighting her plight started doing the rounds, the State Government sanctioned Rs 1 lakh for Sita Sahu in mid-2013. It didn’t go a long way in helping her. She still helps her family in making paani puri/papdi chat in her one-room house. Her brother sells them on a hand-cart under a street light. The entire family earns around 150 Rs. a day. The Olympian’s mother laments she cannot even afford milk or fruits to feed her children.

The Ace Footballer – Rashmita Patra

This Oriya footballer won acclaim several times in her short-lived but illustrious career. She was born into a daily wage labourer’s family. She represented India in the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for under-16 women’s qualifier at Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia in 2008. Two years later, she helped Odisha win the national women’s football for under-19 in Cuttack. In 2011, she again played for India in senior AFC qualifying round at Dhaka and helped the country win an invitational series in the Gulf country, Bahrain. However, poverty forced her to quit her career. She married a traditional fisherman and now lives to fend for her baby by running a betel nut shop. On the eve of FIFA World Cup 2014, she says that football players elsewhere, are taken care of well, but it’s a different case altogether in Orissa.

Are these Brilliant Women Players not Stars?

Are they India’s Talent or India’s Shame?

Throughout the football or cricket tournaments, we all gear up excitedly to watch our favourite sports stars. However, these inspirational players as shown here are now not even able to afford a square meal. It’s time our country shifts the attention to lesser known sports and sports players, both men and women.

There are many women from relatively rural backgrounds that belong not just “in the kitchen”. They can be remembered in history for their contribution to India.

They are actually wasting their time, energies and efforts in the Indian Sports Arena if this is the fate they will eventually meet!

As grim as reality looks today, we must take ownership and rise up to change. Let’s ensure to respect these players, and let’s demand our leaders to develop sports and education facilities for our women.

Her life has changed drastically ever since the former’s appearances in the boxing ring.

The world might have seen many top notch female boxers but India, hardly produced any. But the year 2000, a lady from the north east, a region of India which is highly traceable and the natives are ‘ghettoed’ by the citizens, gave this country a rising star.

Not a young woman or a tall, dark and handsome man but a mother of two!

Yes, her name was Mangte Chungneijang Mary Kom. Mary was born to a poor tribal family in Manipur’s Kangathei village. Her grandmother named her ‘Mary’ which meant ‘prosperous’ in their lingual tribe.

It was not long before Mary found inspiration from her native fellow boxer Dingko Singh who had clinched gold at the 1998 Asian Games.

Since then, the lady was found herself into the sport so much that she moved to Imphal to train in athletics. Even after ignoring her family’s calls for not taking up sports, Mary tried her level best to get into the sporting world. She would train late into the nights, even after academies’ students went away into their homes but the former tried punching the bag so hard, eventually it would fall.

In the year 2001, Mary lost in the final and had to settle for a silver medal at the AIBA World Championships.

A year later, she returned, now stronger and competitive, clinched her first ever gold medal at the event.

Down the years, Mary Kom continued to dominate the women’s boxing category till the year 2006 where she took an eminent break due to the birth of her twins. She returned onto the boxing ring once again, in 2008, winning her 4th successive World Championships.

Glories followed for the ‘Magnificent Mary’, a title stated by the All India Boxing Association for her past achievements.

Mary kept getting the rewards for the patience and hard work, she had put in. After all those troubles in the boxing ring and outside it, Mary walked away with many posthumous titles that included the Arjuna Award in 2004, Padma Shri Award in 2006 and the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna in 2009 for her achievements in Boxing.

That did not stop there, as Mary became the first female Indian boxer to win a medal (bronze) at the Olympics (2012). And since then, a mother of two and proud wife, has not looked back. With some efforts from the government and charitable trusts, Mary is also a proud owner of a India’s first ever ‘female fight club’.

This country has seen some major downpour over the years.

Especially the women, who have been neglected, ignored and ashamed by the male superiority! Our politicians, sportstars, directors, chairpersons, bank managers etc. have all seen the rise of the alpha male. Women were never counted and it will never be this way but, there’s always a but!

Women have matched toe to toe with the male counterparts in our country and the best example one can give is none other than MC Mary Kom.

A daughter, mother, wife and a player; Mary has carved a niche for other women as well, who are fighting their own battles.

Priyanka Chopra might have brought alive the character of ‘Mary’ on the big screen, but the legacy of ‘Magnificent Mary’ lives on.
