While in movies, Mahesh Bhatt is known to pick up real life incidents and weave a film around them for quick monetary profits, in TV Ekta Kapoor is known to exploit real life scenarios to the hilt after adding her own fictional twist to it.

Nowadays the country is going through some real hard times of watching the Indrani Mukherjea murder-saga unfold every few minutes by so many news channels. As such life wasn’t easy, the complicated case of Sheena Bora murder has added so much torture in everyone’s life that one can’t avoid such news and at the same time can’t even bear to watch it! One woman with so many husbands and those husbands with their ex-wives and then everyone’s accumulated off-springs with millions of rupees on stake and everything come tumbling out after three years of a murder! Can even a Sherlock Holmes or a Byomkesh Bakshi ever think of solving this jigsaw puzzle? For them this might be the challenge of their career!

Even the murder can be turned into a hiding act only to get Sheena back after 5 years for revenge after some plastic surgery or re-incarnation born as an adult! Anything is possible!

With Indrani’s husband Peter Mukherjea’s background as ex-head of Star Plus channel, may be this could be a years-long TV show or a movie specifically made for the loyal audience of the channel. Lots of family drama intertwined with murder and suspense! What else do our innocent house-wives across the country want to idle their time away? Or when they want revenge on their husbands for forgetting to bring the right size of onions, they can torture them by making them watch this movie or show!

You see, Mr. Mahesh Bhatt and Ms. Kapoor already know that this is a money spinner and by now their respective teams must be brain-storming also to bring this idea into reality. The question is who will succeed?

One hard reality which one has to live with, whether in Bollywood or in the TV industry is that never mess with the existing power centres!

One prominent example being actor Vivek Oberoi who had the guts to call a press conference more than a decade ago and complain about Salman Khan! At that time Vivek was an upcoming promising youngster who had a very bright future ahead of him, but it is alleged that one wrong move has cost him his career. Till today, despite profusely apologizing to Sallu bhai at various public and private occasions, Vivek is still considered an also ran in the race of ace actors!

Now it is an experienced TV actor, Chetan Hansraj who has revolted against the biggest name in Hindi TV industry, none other than Ekta Kapoor! Okay, it is not against her personally, but against her production house Balaji Telefilms which produces the show Jodha Akbar which Chetan is, or rather was a part of. Unhappy with the way his role was shaping up over past couple of months, he just let the volcano of disappointment burst and that too in full public glare! Not only did he leave the shoot in between, he even spoke to the press about all the issues he had with the show and production house.

In a way, it is really courageous for him to finally speak up about the wrongdoing done to an actor who is around for almost a decade and no matter how big the power centre is someone has to raise the voice. It should be noticed that such a move is an exception rather than the norm given that all such problems are discussed between the actors and production houses within the four walls of shooting sets or offices. In public, only the cordial happy faces are shown. Going by the way Chetan reacted, it seems he must have had to endure lots to let go of his bonding with the production house he built his career with, to go ahead and level allegations of not taking care of his role or promising him something, but not delivering on their word.

The important questions now are: How will Ekta Kapoor react?

Would she even react or just let the controversy die its own sweet death? Or is this all actually a stunt by the team to increase the ratings and soon both the parties will bury the hatchet and hug and kiss?

Whether it is the baap of all, Bigg Boss or the routine song and dance reality shows which give a platform to the immense talent in our country from kids to adults, from girls to women, from singles to couples, as an audience we love watching them month after month, season after season.

No doubt, these shows are a welcome break from the teary soaps ruling the roost and help a complete family to spend evenings together, not to mention inspiring the coming generation to have new dreams and believe in them.

Given such a huge potential which these reality shows carry within, it becomes their responsibility as well to make sure that a right kind of message goes out to the audience. Right from the contestants’ selection, the production value, the honesty of the competition to the fair and transparent judgment of the acts, it is absolutely necessary that the highest possible standards are maintained.

That is why it is shocking to know that Nach Baliye, a dance reality show produced by Ekta Kapoor for Star Plus, is in talks with Chetan Bhagat to be one of the judges! There is no doubt about the calibre of Chetan as a writer, but to think of him as a dance show judge? That’s actually crazy!! As a celebrity he can definitely attract eyeballs given his massive fan following, but is he trained and skilled enough to judge professional dancers? There have been host of celebrity judges on various shows, but they have all been either masters of their craft or they have judged shows which required objective opinions about the acts. For example, if Kirron Kher judged India’s Got Talent, it was not about any one particular talent, but talent in general based on certain pre-decided benchmarks and parameters.

Similarly, if Shilpa Shetty or Madhuri Dixit is made to judge a dance show, they are definitely qualified to do that given their long history of being associated with the art form and having proven their mettle.

What does Chetan Bhagat have to do with dancing except sitting on the fence and just passing remarks?

This is actually commercialization of a franchise without applying mind to it. Yes, TV shows are made to entertain and earn money as well, but then don’t lower the standards to earn a quick buck! The contestants may not be hard-core professionals and their career also may not be in the line of fire based on their performances in the show, but what kind of a message will the show give out?

The youth that watches such shows need to hear an expert comment on dance performance instead of some writer’s views who might just judge the act on his vague opinion!

Really hope that better sense prevails and the production house along with the channel finalize an expert celebrity rather than just a celebrity!

We all know about the much hyped controversy of AIB Roast. Reports say that after the AIB Roast case Karan Johar decided to shelve the sex comedy.

Well there could be another reason of the male lead moving out of the project at the end moment.

But whatever the reason is, censor and audience reception is definitely a big factor to be considered before producing a film in India.

AIB Roast opened the door to a wider topic of discussion. Is India ready or receptive to sex jokes?

The sex comedy that was a joint venture of KJo’s Dharma Production and Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Telefilms was reported last year. It was going to be directed by Sonam Nair.

India has very limited sex comedy films like ‘Kya Cool Hain Hum’, ‘Masti’, etc.

The audience response to adult comedy film ‘Delly Belly’ was superb. The track ‘Bhaag D K Bose’ became an instant hit.

It is very clear that Indian audience is definitely eager for films of the genre – sex comedy. But there are lots of people who think sex is against our culture.

The Censor Board had been a spoilsport to anything that talks sex. Even the word ‘virginity’ was censored in the film ‘Finding Fanny’.

It is strange of what passes the Censor Board and is gladly accepted by Indians.

We even had people from the film fraternity reacting, saying that the content of AIB Roast isn’t a part of our culture. Well sex isn’t new to Indian cinema; only the medium of conveying it changed over the years.

For people of 1980s and 1990s, let me remind you that the kind of content depicted in our movies then was much grave.

For example let us take a glimpse of this scene from the 1998 movie ‘Gunda’ starring Mithun Chakraborty. His sister is raped by Shakti Kapoor and he performed this act of crime after consuming  something called the ‘Vitamin sex’.

So if sex tablet is consumed to commit a crime then Censor Board, media and all the so-called protectors of ‘Indian culture’ don’t seem to have any problem. These very acts when shown for pleasure or as a joke, people ironically found them offensive!

If KJo’s sex comedy is scrapped because of the AIB Roast drama then seriously it is time we grow up.

Ekta has already selected Ken Ghosh as the film’s director (renowned for Ishq Vishk, Fida and Chance Pe Dance).

XXX’s plot will comprise short stories that circle around one of modern youth’s favourite interests – EROTICA.

The movie is bound to make millions, but it is an open audition and you never know, as you might get to star in it.
