The whole nation is rooting for Narendra Modi government to
take knee-jerk action after the blood-curdling Pulwama attack that claimed at
least 42 lives of CRPF personnel in Awantipora, Kashmir. It was the day of 14th
February, 2019 that marked one of the darkest days of Indian history. An RDX
laden Scorpio car breached several layers of stringent security and rammed into
the vehicle of those martyred.

The tragic incident has sparked great furoure in India and
worldwide. The nations from across the World have forthwith extended their
solidarity and vowed to help India in their counter-terrorism ventures. After
the deadly and cowardly attack jolted the pristine vallyes of Kashmir, if
fuelled a backlash for Pakistan over their alleged role in the deadly strike.

The Pakistani terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed claimed
responsibility of the attack fairly brazenly. According to the recent reports,
the Pulwama terror conspirator Kamran, a Pakistani national, is killed in a
12-hour encounter by the Indian army. According to the sources, Indian army
tried to hunt down Kamran for years but he managed to escape as he traveled
from village to village to persuade the young minds into terror.

Indian government, in protest of Pulwama attack, withdrew the Most Favoured Nation (MFN) awarded to Pakistan which satisfied our aching nerve of vengeance. Followed by the withdrawal, basic custom duty on all goods exported from Pakistan to India has been spiked to 200% immediately. Recently, IMG Reliance too opted out of the Pakistan Super League as their main broadcaster to show gratitude to the martyred.

Cricket Club of India too joined the bandwagon of snapping connections with Pakistan and they removed the portrait of Pakistan PM Imran Khan from their restaurant wall. It was really disappointing to see Pakistan PM’s nonchalance regarding the incident when the whole world was condemning the horrendous terror activity. CCI removed Imran Khan’s portrait as a sign of protest as he remained tight-lipped over the grave issue. CCI Secretary Suresh Bafna told ANI, “Though CCI is a sporting association but nation comes first even before sports”. He also suggested to skip the Pakistan clash in the ICC World Cup in June.

Lately, Twitter was abuzz with protests against this horrifying attack on the Indian military and several fans have asked skipper Virat Kohli and the Board of Council for Cricket in India (BCCI) to give a wide berth to Pakistan at the World Cup in England and Wales.

India and Pakistan’s friendship lately thrived around their cultural exchanges. It was music and art that connected both the nations on a deeper plane. Cricket too held colossal importance in bringing the two nations together. When the teams from both the nations rivalled each other in the cricket field, we felt adrenaline pumping in our body. Boycotting Pakistan in the World Cup in England and Wales will definitely avenge the cowardly attack in someway.

Here are some tweets from the Indian fans asking Virat Kohli and Co. to take the move:

This is indeed a big blow, but given our legal system, there might be some appeals, some more time to buy time to overturn the judgements or ask for some kind of leniency in punishments etc. that will go on. However, it is a watershed moment in the history of Indian cricket and if the judgment is followed in letter and spirit, then very soon BCCI will be looking for two new franchisees to replace the punished ones!

Given the fact that RR was partly owned by Shilpa Shetty’s husband, Raj Kundra (even he is debarred from participating in any form of cricket); suddenly the glamour quotient will drop! Of course Shahrukh Khan and Preity Zinta are still there, but more glamour can only help to make IPL even more successful. As such it is a fun form of cricket rather than serious sport so why not have more glamour quotient to it?

We have thought of 5 celebrities who might or should try to buy the New IPL Teams in auctions so that the tournament becomes more thrilling and more exciting to watch!

Here are they:

1) Salman Khan

Sallu bhai has a charity organization, has got his own production house, has got all his siblings and extended family settled down, and is also acting in Celebrity Cricket League so the next step is to obviously own a team in world’s biggest T20 tournament! We are sure money would be hardly of any consequence, buying a team must be like loose change for him. Better he buys one! The way his movies fare at the box office, IPL can only look at money raining down after Salman’s presence!

2) Saif Ali Khan

The Nawab of Pataudi might have missed the bandwagon last time around when auctions happened, this time he should just board the IPL train ASAP! With his dad’s cricket legacy in his blood and the fact that he is a shrewd and sorted businessman more than a talented actor, he surely can make his team give some exciting performances! Add his gorgeous wife, Kareena Kapoor Khan to the mix and you can be assured of more than houseful shows of cricket matches!

3) Abhishek Bachchan

Junior AB might not have been able to set the screens on fire with his average performances; he is surely dabbling in lot of sporting activity for some time. His kabbadi team is doing well and IPL seems the logical extension to his sporting interests! After all, he needs to make a living on his own rather than being supported majorly by his wife and family, right?

4) Aamir Khan

When Shahrukh Khan is minting money and Salman is a worthy candidate, why should Aamir stay behind? He is after all the perfectionist of all and his intelligence combined with talented skill sets of cricket players can only create magic unseen before! The only hitch is, he might ask for the tournament to be held once in 5 years so that players get enough time to prepare to play to their perfection!

5) Sunny Leone

Can anyone claim to bring more glamour to IPL than our own sultry and sexy Sunny? Sunil Sunny Gavaskar might also get to relive his youthful days when the whole nation used to chant “Sunny” “Sunny” in the stadium! Apart from that, Sunny has just played a Rajasthani character in her latest hit movie, Leela; being the owner of a team from Rajasthan can only assure her of making hit movies with Rajasthani background! Sound business sense, isn’t it?

Well who knows what the future is, but if either of these celebrities buy an IPL team, the whole tournament’s appeal will go a few notches higher!

Don’t we?

That surely seems to be the case, given all these talks about India Pakistan cricket match with a full-fledged series by this year end in UAE! What are the authorities, especially BCCI, thinking?

Yes, we do agree that any match between India and Pakistan would generate a tremendous amount of hype leading to money literally raining for both the cricket boards, but what is it at stake? Is it really worth the risk? Are Indian players guinea pigs for experimentation of this kind?

Firstly, cricketing ties between the two countries were snapped due to the ghastly terrorist incident in Mumbai on 26/11/08. The perpetrators of the same are roaming free in Pakistan devising new strategies to create terror in India.

Secondly, the new terrorist organization, Islamic State (IS) is very much active and growing rapidly in Middle East with Saudi Arabia led coalition being involved in military actions against Yemen based arm of the terrorist organization! Full fledged airstrikes are taking place in its backyard and going by the developments, unfortunately peace is not around the corner!

Thirdly, IS has made inroads into Pakistan and their recent act of terror is killing innocent people in a bus by indiscriminate firing!

With so much of instability, strong terrorist groups and obvious anti-India sentiment in Pakistan and in the growing propaganda of IS, is it safe to send our national cricket team to UAE (even if it’s a friendly nation) to play against Pakistan? What is the guarantee for the players’ security? What about the backlash and repercussions if Pakistan loses the matches or the entire series? Who is going to claim responsibility in case any mishap happens?

Frankly speaking, it will only help the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to fill up their empty coffers from the windfall this series will generate. India doesn’t need to play it! We can play at safer venues and with countries that reciprocate our hospitality and are not working against us behind our backs!

There is a feeling that people to people contact should be made strong, sporting ties help nations to get closer and bury the differences, but anybody can check the historical facts and will get a clear idea that till now, it hasn’t worked! We should not make our cricket players go through so much of stress for playing against Pakistan knowing clearly that their effort on the field will not be reciprocated adequately by people sitting in the corridors of power! The players need to play where they can enjoy without worrying about where has the latest bomb blast happened or where did the terrorist last opened fire and if they are next in line for a terror act!

Let’s urge the government that first try the diplomatic channels and use political will to mend the relations instead of using sports star to stand in the line of action!

They are cricketers, not soldiers with weapons!

Meet Karan Gilhotra (38), who is a businessman and owns an agency for an automobile firm (Honda) and a fashion clothing chain in the city of Chandigarh which is a franchise partner to Salman Khan’s ‘Being Human’ NGO merchandise.

He also has the laurel of being elected as the Youngest Sarpanch of the country at the age of 21 years, when he was unanimously elected as the Sarpanch of a village called near Fazilka in Punjab during the panchayatipolls in that area.

What is his relationship to cricket then, apart from being an ardent fan?

Well, apparently he has been termed as a secret bookie by the BCCI who has been ‘allegedly’ meeting cricketers during the IPL and other cricketing events and getting key team information and play tactics and passing them off during bet placement.

The Detailed Story

Gilhotra is a regular face in the Chandigarh party scene. Also, he seems to be very close to many Bollywood celebs, bureaucrats, politicians and even IPL franchise officials, with whom he gets pictures clicked and uploads on his Facebook page.

He is also the host of most Celebrity Cricket League cricket games played in Chandigarh which makes him really close to the celebs part of the tournament.

Many Bollywood celebs like Salman Khan, Sunil Shetty, Sohail Khan, Bobby Deol, Boney Kapoor, cricketers, bureaucrats like MukeshAmbani and politicos have attended his parties over the years, which raises the question – Is he very close to these cricketers and does he extract information from them?

Gilhotra became a national issue on media news last night when his pictures with Anurag Thakur, the secretary of The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) surfaced on social media.

The turf war between ICC and BCCI is a really sensitive issue and now the ICC has sent a letter written by mail sent by ICC’s CEO David Richards onto the BCCI demanding an explanation about Gilhotra’s identity.

Is He A Bookie?

Apparently, sharing a cake with the BCCI secretary hasn’t gone down with the ICC and this is when all the hoopla was created.

Also, the ICC has Gilhotra’s name on their Anti-Corruption and Security Unit (ACSU) most-wanted list which labels him as a ‘suspected bookie’.

Not only that, his pictures with numerous cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh, Virendra Sehwag and others is a cause of concern.

He has also been alleged trying to befriend younger cricketers and the others mentioned above ever since the second edition of the IPL. ICC feels this is a tactic that most bookies play.

Gilhotra’s Take?

Gilhotra in an interview to the media terms that he wasn’t not aware that he was on ICC’s anti-corruption body’s watch list.

He terms that he is only a businessman who meets with people like Anurag and many other Bollywood stars, politicians and bureaucrats solely for a business visit.

He has confirmed that he knows Anurag since 10 years and they are well acquainted.

He terms the sudden name-shaming in the media to be a sham and blames the ICC for not informing or questioning him in an investigation about the ‘alleged bookie’ claim. He claims that the infighting between current BCCI board members is victimizing him and his friends like Anurag.

The real story will be unearthed only when a proper probe is set up, until then Gilhotra remains under the watchful eye of the Indian cricket fans and the ICC. If he is actually found to be a bookie, then the credibility of a lot of cricketers will be up for question since they also met Gilhotra with smiles on their faces.

Either they have really stupid auditors or they are simply too haughty to come up with this piece of crap!

CSK, as they are popularly called, have estimated the net worth of their team at 5lakhs after its recent sale to a sister concern!

A roadside noodle vendor makes more profit than that! 😛

Here’s All The Spice!

IPL team CSK has invited fresh new controversy into their kitty after endless drama over the past year over spot-fixing allegations, the exit of their boss N. Srinivasan from the helm of the BCCI, the legal implications Gurunath Meiyyapan (Srinivasan’s son-in-law) is facing for allegedly leaking confidential information to bookies and what not! And now this…

The new IPL governing council has severely objected to the amount that the team has valued for itself – 5lakhs! The valuation was done by the team’s owners, Chennai Super Kings Ltd.

Chennai Super Kings Ltd., is a subsidiary that was formed by N. Srinivasan’s company India Cements after the Supreme Court cited a glaring conflict of interest for the ex-BCCI chief.

He was told to either run the team or own it via India Cements according to the IPL rules.

The new governing council of the IPL had invited MP Jyotiraditya Scindia as a special invitee who was the first to raise the issue about the valuation of the team.

He was shocked at how a team owned by Indian Cements can be valued at a mere 5 lakh rupees when India Cements pays 40 crore as annual franchise fee to the BCCI! 😛

Why this is shocking is because a US-based consultancy service recently valued the team at Rs. 450 crore in the year 2014! 😀

When the Supreme Court brought forward charges of “conflict of interest” against Mr. Srinivasan in 2014, he was denied contest for the BCCI presidential elections.

Acting on the court order to choose only point of interest, India Cements, who were the original owners of the CSK, transferred all their shares to the newly formed subsidiary company, Chennai Super Kings Cricket Ltd.

The India Cements Board headed by Srinivasan also decided that the subsidiary will be owned by the existing shareholders of India Cements on a proportionate basis of which 70 per cent of the India Cements shares are held by the public, the promoters hold only 28 per cent of it and N Srinivasan himself holds 0.14 per cent of the total shares.

The IPL governing council has not yet ratified the transfer of shares since as per the rules of the BCCI, only 5 per cent of the sale price of any IPL team should be given to the BCCI, which has not been done yet. If this is done, BCCI should itself get Rs. 25,000 out of the current valuation since CSK claims it was sold to the new subsidiary for only 5 lakh rupees! 😛

The council headed by MP Rajeev Shukla has not accepted this hilarious valuation and has rejected it outright simply because it is too low for a team that takes part in the costliest league match sport India has ever witnessed!

We hope that CSK comes to its senses and values its team properly, after all rules are rules. The BCCI should get what it deserves – they are the people running the whole show and managing all the events!

You do the math and figure out if the team is actually valued at Rs. 450crore, how much the BCCI should get as its franchise management fees?

Post your calculation and views in the comments section below!

Crowd watching cricket match outside shop

Shops selling electronic gadgets and even a laundry shop that has TV on would have witnessed massive crowds gathered outside.

Sceptics

Even the sceptics would catch this match with dedication

Sceptics are everywhere when it comes to matches involving India, but today even they would not have want to leave their seats until the match was over.

Women

Female cricket fans would be cheering the Indian cricketers

Most women are not popular for being cricket fans, but the intensity of today’s match would have encouraged them to catch the game live.

Beggars on Streets

Beggars will cease to exist today on streets

Don’t you feel empathetic when you see beggars every day alongside roads? Well, you wouldn’t have witnessed that today, for even they were busy watching the match somewhere.

Pakistani Audience

Fans in Pakistan will watch the India vs. Australia game

Pakistani fans would have rooted for Australia. Though they did not get to burst the ‘Mauka Mauka’ firecrackers against India, they would have utilised it now. If you are looking for celebrations, heading to our ‘friendly’ neighbouring country would be advisable.

Indian Immigrants Living in Australia

Indian fans residing in Australia will support the Men in Blue, too

Indians, who have migrated to India, were present at the SCG to catch the game live or watch it at their home definitely supporting their country.

Rahul Gandhi

Even Rahul Gandhi will not want to miss this match, wherever he is

“Where is Rahul Gandhi?” has been trending for quite some time now. We know he was watching the India-Australia match today.

With 70% of stadium tickets bought by Indians, Australia captain Michael Clarke was forced to send out an SOS Tweet to his fellow countrymen for support.

I call on all Australian cricket lovers to paint the SCG gold on Thursday. We need your support. #goldout

— Michael Clarke (@MClarke23) March 20, 2015

Former Australian pace bowler Brett Lee believes that the hosts will outperform the Asian team, in the process setting up the final clash against New Zealand.

However, with the Indian fans painting the Sydney Cricket Ground blue, MS Dhoni and his men will get the much-needed motivation to beat Australia in its own backyard. Rohit Sharma appeared confident before this important clash, as he spoke to the media, “Of course we can win, no question about it. We know how to play big games. Spinners have been vital, responsibility will be on openers.”

India will rely on its openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan for a steady start, making batting simpler for the middle-order batsmen including Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina.

Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan’s opening partnership will be crucial

Australia, on the other hand, would be confident playing at home and try hard to get one step closer to winning their fifth World Cup.

The Aussies bowling spearhead Mitchell Johnson has vowed to sledge Indian batsmen at the SCG tomorrow. The audience at the ground and the one watching from home can anticipate a few verbal spats between players of the two squads.

Mitchell Johnson said he would take up sledging against Indian players

It was the recently concluded tri-series when Australian opening batsman David Warner engaged in a verbal duel with India’s Rohit Sharma during an ODI match, for which he was penalised by the ICC. The outcome of it was Warner keeping out of any kind of heated verbal interacting with his opponents. This was when Mitchell Johnson put his hand up saying he won’t withhold from exchanging heated words.

India, too, are said to be fine with sledging during the match, but vowed to not cross the line.

Former Australian pace bowler Stuart Clarke has predicted Ravichandran Ashwin as being the most difficult man to tackle for Australia in tomorrow’s bout against India.

Ravichandran Ashwin’s 10 overs against Australia would be crucial

After its win against Bangladesh in the quarter-finals, India successfully managed to bowl out an opponent for the seventh consecutive match. Indian bowlers would be looking to take the tally to number eight tomorrow against one of their bitter rivals.

The Australian opening pair of Aaron Finch and David Warner has not performed at its best potential, which would be a plus side for India. Nevertheless, their middle-order batting has risen to the occasion whenever needed and getting them out would be the key.

Australian opening partnership of Aaron Finch and David Warner has not really clicked

India’s pace attack comprising Mohit Sharma, Umesh Yadav and Mohammed Shami possess the ability to get ten wickets and they have shown it in the prior seven occasions. Knowing whether they would be able to repeat the feat tomorrow will have to wait.

Though Australia, as hosts and a much superior team as compared to India, looks likely to win this match, India will definitely put up a strong fight and hope to retain the World Cup for the first time.

We tend to point fingers at someone’s love interest and do not even think before making a filthy comment. Ever since Virat Kohli blew a kiss to Anushka Sharma, their love life has been a big topic of discussion.

Of course people are intrigued to see more such magical moments. As long as the gossip columns talk about their relationship and keep the guesswork drama, well it is all a part of entertainment news.

But it turns murky when the relationship is linked to one’s profession.

“It is primitive to call me a distraction”, said Anushka Sharma in a recent interview.

Seriously it is so baffling to understand that how an actress is responsible for someone’s performance on the field. If Virat is under performing then blame the player, his coach or the team. How is Anushka’s name even popping with respect to his performance? Is she his coach?

If Anushka acts badly on-screen (that reminds me her movie NH10 is releasing tomorrow and I can’t wait to watch it) would Virat be held responsible?

Both are completely different professions and their professional career has got nothing to do with the relationship they share with each other.

What does the BCCI expect of players? The cricketers shouldn’t have a personal life?

Every player should ideally have no families, no friends and no attachments if you see the weird logic of girlfriends being distractions.

In India where families and bonds are considered as the biggest strength it is sad to see how a bond easily gets termed as a mere distraction.

The legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar also had a love marriage. Relation is a personal affair and to come up with dirty remarks and tags based on mere speculations for the same depicts simply a very sad state of the country.

While we are discussing firecrackers, have you seen the ad poking fun at India for not having won a single game against the African giants in the World Cups?

Yes, it’s true. India may have won the World Cup, but they have never beaten a team that is disreputable for falling apart under trying situations.

India and South Africa meet face each other for the fourth time in the World Cups this Sunday.

India face South Africa for the fourth time in World Cups

Both teams have met on three occasions – 1992, 1996 and 2011 – with South Africa proving formidable every single time.

There’s no question that India looked at its prime against arch-rivals Pakistan while handing them a 76-run defeat last Sunday. South Africa, on the other hand, faced Zimbabwe beating them convincingly by 62 runs.

India’s batting line-up, after a long time, looked steady with Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli and Suresh Raina scoring big runs. Though South Africa’s top-order did appear vulnerable against their African counterparts, it could be brushed off as a one-time bad experience.

India will be keen on beating South Africa for the first time in World Cups

It was good to see India’s bowling come to the party for once as it bundled out Pakistan for just 224 runs. While chasing the mammoth total set by South Africa, Zimbabwe did manage to score 277.

This Sunday, the competition will be against Indian batsmen and South African bowlers. South African bowling will be led by Dale Steyn and Morne Morkel, two of the fiercest pace bowlers in modern day cricket.

South Africa would like to keep their unbeaten record against India

While India and South Africa will be competing, all eyes will be on Gary Kirsten, former India coach under whom team India won the World Cup in 2011. Kirsten, who joined South Africa as a consultant, will like to play a key part in his team winning cricket’s most coveted prize this year.

One of the interesting facts about South Africa in World Cups is that they have faced a fate bad than worse after defeating India every single time.

Rain saved England against South Africa at the 1992 World Cup

Would history repeat itself or will India beat South Africa, in the process, altering the latter’s “jinx” at the World Cups?

Regardless, a huge crowd is expected at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on the 22nd of February. India vs South Africa will be a contest that will keep you wanting for more.
