Is Home Minister Rajnath Singh All Talk and No Action?

Till now, there have been strings of tough statements by the home minister but tough action is yet to be seen taken.

After taking over the home ministry, the union home minister Rajnath Singh met senior Delhi police officials for the first time on Monday and told them that the women’s safety and solving crimes against women should be the priority of the force. In his meeting with the officials at Delhi police headquarters he was apprised of the situation of crime in the city.

Till now, there have been strings of tough statements by the home minister but tough action is yet to be seen taken.

After the horrific rape and murder incidences of Badaun, Uttar Pradesh, Singh took a week to say anything on the news despite the state BJP units rising demand of his intervention on the issue of rising crimes in the state. Five BJP leaders have been murdered in the state and two narrowly escaped death. UP DGP had met home minister and had discussed the security issues in the state too.

But home minister stopped after saying that the security in the state should be beefed up and that he is “closely monitoring the law and order situation” in UP. This statement comes at a time when UP is reeling under spate of violence after killing of a policeman and another BJP leader has been murdered in the state.

The news of violence by TMC goons against BJP workers and supporters in West Bengal rocked all. A group of senior leaders of the party even visited the ill-fated Sandeshkhali where chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s men had opened fire against celebrating lot. They submitted there report to the home minister on the situation there on June 12. But the report lies with home minister from a week a not a wor on it has come from his ministry.

From crime against women in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand to burning of a 15 year old dalit girl alive by eight people in Sayla town of Gujarat’s Surendranagar district on Monday – the crime cases are on a rise.

For sure we saw quick action when Intelligence Bureau submitted its report on the foreign-funded NGO’s and their anti-national activities. Similarly, these cannot be called slip ups but certainly action is missing from all the events. High time home minister acts tough like he talks.
