In Mamata Didi’s Land: News That Missed The Headlines

The repeated reports of violence and terror by TMC goons have regularly been suppressed in Mamata Didi’s raj. The state government has become a symbol of anarchy. But Didi has done nothing.

Two weeks ago in Sandeshkhali in North 24-Parganas, West Bengal chief minister and Trinamool Congress’ chief Mamata Banerjee’s men opened fire at the villagers injuring as many as 26. The villagers were bursting crackers and celebrating the swearing-in of Bhartiya Janata Party’s Prime Minister Naredra Modi. Even after a fortnight, the village is terrorized.

The news was carried out all across the country but it missed the headlines and missed the attention of people and media.

The armed attack is pretty much an example of how Mamata Didi is ruling the state and what is the situation of law and order there. The villagers, mostly poor people who belong to scheduled castes and scheduled tribes, are now living under the fear of another attack.

On Saturday morning, a high-level BJP team comprising of BJP vice-president and national spokesperson Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, MP from Delhi Meenakshi Lekhi, the party in-charge for the state Siddharthnath Singh, and two MPs from West Bengal – S S Ahluwalia and Babul Supriyo met the villagers.

New Indian Express reported: Sandeskhali which is near the Indo-Bangladesh border is within Basirhat Lok Sabha constituency, where the BJP nominee Shamik Bhattacharya received 18.36 per cent votes. Since then tension has prevailed in the area which was considered a TMC stronghold. The BJP central team also visited the injured in the hospital and later submitted a memorandum to the state chief secretary demanding police action against the culprits who were ‘terrorising the villagers’.

Most of the villagers remained indoors out of fear and the BJP leaders met the families of the victims and assured them of support from the Centre.

Hindustan Times reported: Even on Saturday, two weeks after the attack, tension was palpable in Rampur village. “Some policemen were posted in our village after the violence, but Trinamool cadres are threatening us with dire consequences once the police camp is removed,” Kabita Sardar, a woman, told Naqvi.

Jhuma Sardar, a middle-aged woman, pleaded for protection before the central BJP leaders who met the villagers on the balcony of Purba Rampur Free Primary School. “Please help us. We are terrorised,” she said.

The BJP team would submit a report to party president and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh and request the National Scheduled Caste and Tribe Commission to visit the affected villages.

What happened at Sandeshkhali was not a mere act of violence, but an act of terror. The police, which filed FIRs against people sustaining bullet injuries instead of arresting the culprits, was pretty much a party to the attack by TMC goons.

The repeated reports of violence and terror by TMC goons have regularly been suppressed in Mamata Didi’s raj. The state government has become a symbol of anarchy. But Didi has done nothing.

It seems, either Didi does not care or she is a part of the violence.
