They bring back the memories of bygone times and stick out from the crowd in terms of their nostalgic air. There are temples that are not only religious places but also witness to rise and fall of empires, their walls are saddled with the cry of the fated people of dynasties.

1 – Jetavanaramaya, Sri Lanka:

This is a Stupa which is located in the sacred city of Anuradhapuram, Sri Lanka. This bears a significance in history because it represents the Buddhist monks of Theravada and Mahayana which is the oldest perpetuating branch of Buddhism. It was the third highest building of the world with a height of 400 feet and dates back to 4th century which was built by the king Mahasena.

2 – Sri Ranganathaswamy temple, India:

One of the most predominant Vishnu temples of the world which is situated in Tamilnadu, India. It is also deemed as the largest temple in the country which spreads across 156 acres. The main draw of the temple is the Dravidian style of architecture that was used for its construction. There are 20 varied kinds of towers within the temple, the main of them is Gopura which has a height of 236 feet and printed with different colours.

3 – Temple of heaven, China:

It was built to pay gratitude to the sky which is located in the city of Beijing. This large temple covers an area of 2.7 million square metres and is surrounded by a circular wall which represents heaven and there is a rectangular wall too for representing the Earth. This design of the temple is symbolic of the fact that heaven is much higher than the earth and this complex architecture belongs to 1406-1420 which was built by the Ming dynasty.

4 – Shwedagon Pagoda, Myanmar:

This is one of the most popular temples of Asia which houses 8 pieces of hairs from Budhha. This temple is located in Yangon, Myanmar. The temple was built around 2600 years ago from this time and it was credited to Thapussa and Bhalika who were lucky to meet Budhha in 588 BC. The temple is covered by many golden plates and the top parts are ornate with diamonds.

5 – Prambanan, Indonesia:

There are three main buildings that are dedicated to Trimurtis as per Hindu religion, Brahma, Vishnu and Maheshwar. The Shiva temple is the highest of them all which is located at the centre. There are numbers of rooms in each temple which are dedicated to the respective Gods. The temple was built in 10 century and one of the major highlights of Hindu architecture.
