Ishant Sharma shows his fighting spirit

Just couple of months back, the tall and lanky Delhi bowler was spanked all over the park by an Aussie who hardly trusted his batting skills. Later on, all cricketing lovers were calling for the head of Ishant Sharma, who till the inclusion of Zaheer Khan, was the ‘senior’ bowler in the squad. Come this South Africa series, all the bad mouthing seems to have forgotten as Ishant Sharma version 2.0 has made the critics eat their own words.

When the Indian team looked all bothered, Ishant’s fiery spell of 3-40 troubled the South African batsmen as the 1st Test hangs in the balance. And that’s not all, even the opposition praised Ishant’s brilliant spell. Proteas’ batsman Hashim Amla too had some kind words for the Delhi lad. Speaking to the press post-match, Amla said, “He (Ishant) bowled in the right areas, used bounce very well and nipped the ball both ways. He bowled well.”

That was not all, former South African speedster Makhaya Ntini too showered praises on Ishant. Speaking to a published newspaper, Ntini was quoted speaking. “He was simply tireless. He kept running in and bowled in the right areas. This boy is maturing, it’s good that MS Dhoni has persisted with him despite his failures.” He further added, “Getting Hashim Amla to shoulder arm and knock his stump over is a rarity and Ntini felt that it should be a great moment of Ishant’s career. I have bowled to Hashim, I know how good his defence is.To go through his defences the way he did deserves lot of credit.”

His bowling spell here might not be as similar to that in Australia in 2007 but if one has to ask Ishant one which spell would he rate the best, the answer would be a genuine one and we all know that answer!
