The much-awaited IPL (Indian Premier League) is yet again in the news.
This time, the IPL has garnered tremendous news due to the scheduling of matches outside the country and not for the controversy driven around the game of sport.
The IPL T20 was inaugurated in 2008 and has been growing strength to strength with each passing year. Even after the fixing scam, the response has always been over whelming from the audience much to the delight of the players and the BCCI.
This is going to be the 7th year of the IPL T20. Due to the upcoming elections, the BCCI has decided to shift base partly to the UAE and has also considered Bangladesh as another option but has kept Bangladesh as a stand-by.
The IPL will return back to India by May 13, the ending phase of the league.
The high profile sport event is scheduled from April 16 to June 1st. The BCCI’s decision to partially shift base is due to the smooth functioning of the upcoming general elections. Although the board has sought permission to stage matches from 1st May itself. But this would happen only if the permission is granted by the Government.
The tournament is set to flag off in UAE and would be held at three venues – Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Sharjah.
Bangladesh is kept on hold due to the government’s clearance on the matter.
If the board fails to get the necessary permission, the mid stages of the IPL matches will be held in Bangladesh.
The general elections will be held from April 7th to May 12th. Due to this, the government refused to grant permission due to the clash of security at polling boots and for the IPL stadiums.
This is the second time in 7 seasons the matches are forced to be held outside the country.
In 2009, the destination set was South Africa due to the same reason – elections. The board was once again contemplating to schedule the matches once again at South Africa but later chose to explore and shift to the UAE.
The BCCI is on talks with the government to process smooth functioning of the event as this time round, there will be eight teams participating in the league and the event has also been shortened due to the lesser number of teams getting down on the field for an entertaining game of cricket.
What the Crickets Lovers of the world is looking for? Smooth and fair play…
Lets hope for the best.
