Low In Demand, High On Life: Pharmacy

Until a few years ago, a career in Pharmacy was not held in esteem, as much as engineering or medicine. The markets are on a rise and provides ample of employment opportunities.

So, you have opted for Biology as a major in your HSC and you aim to get into dentistry or medicine. However, the marks you scored in the entrance test was not good enough to get you into either. I am supposing the next thought on your mind would be taking a drop this academic year and attempting it the next time.

Not that I doubt your potential, ofcourse nobody other than you can know of your capabilties the best. But this one year of your life is a big deal, and if you’re even one percent doubtful regarding your admission the coming year, its better you look for other options.

Until a few years ago, a career in Pharmacy was not held in esteem, as much as engineering or medicine.  Not only this, there are a number of people out there who still look upon pharmacy as the last resort in a medical career. However, the scenario has changed completely. Thanks to the recent boom in the industry, the pharma market in India is rising exponentially.

As much as I hate to say that India is considered as one of the countries with a high percentage of diseased population, the situation has brought the oppotunity for the industry to prosper at such a rate. A Bachelor’s in Pharmacy (B. Pharma) provides you the license to manufacture medicines. There is no complusion of a Master’s for that. But as they say, they more knowledge you possess about a sunject the more you propser.

Employment Opportunities: Needless to say, India has increasingly become a hub for clinical research. Pharmacists can either start their own clinic (Clinical Research Organisation) or join another CRO.

There is a big scope in this industry as far as marketing is concerned. Pharmaceutical companies that manufactures tools and machines for research, hire graduates for their marketing and sales as MR, project managers etc. Pharmaceutical MBA is considered a boon in this field.

Some government jobs like government analysis is associated with quality control. This department involves developing, applying, revising, and maintaining quality standards for processing materials into partially finished or finished products.

Indian Pharma industry is gaining its position as a global leader. The markets are on a rise and provides ample of employment opportunities. And people still tend to consider this as the last resort in a medical career.
