There would be a number of reasons why you decided to quit your previous job or are thinking of quitting your current.

While you look forward to begin something new, hiring managers never fail to know what made you decide to quit.

They generally ask so as to understand your motives and gain insight into how you handle work relationships.

Why do you wish to quit your current job is one way for the interviewer to ensure that you are a person of integrity.

While you may be well prepared with a concrete reason to give to the hiring manager, we tell you a few things you need to keep in mind before you answer the question.

Accomplishments

When you look forward to take up new responsibilities for a new job profile, you need to assure the hiring manager about your accomplishments in your previous profile. So prepare a list of your tasks and accomplishments, and when asked about your achievements, never fail to mention the amount of time you finished the task successfully in.

Avoid reassuring

When a salesman try to convince you to buy a product, you compare it with other products of the same brand or different, check the durability, lasting period, guarantee period and other details which are relevant to know about the product. However, if the salesman continuously tries to assure you about the goodness of that particular product, things look a little fishy to you. Similarly, while telling a hiring manager why you want to quit your current job, make sure that your way of answering does not sound as if trying to reassure him/her. Avoid saying things like, ” I am being challenged to a great degree” or “The pay is too low as compared to the job responsibilities.”

Seem optimistic

Employers run the show and can act as they see fit. Never badmouth your previous employer, as that shows your incompetency and inability to perform at higher levels. Try acknowledging that you were probably looking forward to something else and that your present company is not the right fit for you.
Remember that every question you’re asked is a chance to showcase your qualities, personality and interest in the position. So, when you’re asked anything about quitting your current or previous job, keep your answers short, honest, and positive.

Here’s an example: “This position seemed like an excellent match for my skills and experience and I am unable to fully utilize them in my present job. I was intrigued by the position you offered and wish to use my skills and knowledge to grow with the organization.”
