What a trailer! Amazing!

This will be your reaction for sure post watching the trailer of the upcoming film, Begum Jaan, starring acting powerhouse Vidya Balan in the lead role.

Every time Balan comes up with something new and special, wins our hearts, entertains us and proves why she’s a gift to Bollywood. Well, in this trailer, she has done just that. Just imagine, if the trailer is so impactful, then how will the entire movie be?

Well, this one’s anything but a run-of-the-mill story. It’s different! A story of a brothel situated on the Indo-Pak border, lines like ‘When Freedom Fought Independence’ and ‘Lived as Whores, Fought as Queens’ on the poster evoke a sense of power and excitement.

Power-packed dialogues like “Tawahif ke liye har din ek jaisa hota hai…Ek baar batti bujhi toh sab ek”, “Bhikmangon ki tarah nahi, Rani ki tarah marungi apne mahal mein” and “Mahina humein ginna aata hai Sahab….Har baar saala laal karke jaata hai” will more than impress you.

The Bengali film Rajkahini starring Rituparna Sengupta was loved both by the audience and the critics, and Sengupta was just brilliant as Begum Jaan. Hope the Hindi remake also packs a punch, and all the Ooh La La girl’s fans will pray that Vidya Balan comes back with a bang in Begum Jaan post Kahaani 2. We’re sure she will!

The film, written and directed by Srijit Mukherji, also stars Gauhar Khan, Pallavi Sharda, Naseeruddin Shah, Ashish Vidyarthi, Rajit Kapoor and Ila Arun in important roles.

A good story always makes a good film!

To find a good story, that’s where the real talent lies.

Most of the story writers, directors etc. are always in search of a story that will connect with the masses, that has an entertainment quotient that will get bring audiences to the theaters and what not. I said ‘most’ because some of them only rely on the star power, discarding the whole concept of a script in a movie and you all know who we are talking about.

For those who really like a film with a strong content will acknowledge the fact that all great films ever made have had some personal touch to them, be it from the director’s side or the writer’s side. Of course, the personal experiences when interwoven with an interesting story will lead to an entertaining watch.

And the master of such stories which are more or less autobiographical is none other than Mahesh Bhatt!

He is one director who has had a totally screwed–up life while growing up and even during his youth, but he didn’t get depressed because of it. In fact, he is so smart that he exploited his own miseries, his own painful life to make profits out of it. Not only money, but an immense amount of critical acclaim fell in his lap. No doubt, he told those stories very artistically and keeping in mind the cinematic medium, but still it requires guts to remove your masks and get naked to reveal your true life for audience’s voyeuristic tastes!

He started with Arth which showcased his real life’s romantic liaisons and then upped the ante with Zakhm! Zakhm was based on the extra-marital affairs of his dad with his mom and can be said to be one of the boldest movies to have ever been made. Not only is it a classic, it is also responsible for giving Indian cinema the intense actor, Ajay Devgn. Before this movie, Ajay was only known as an action hero with no substantial movies in his kitty. This flick just made him a thinking intense actor who can just work wonders with his drooping eyes! All credit goes to Mahesh Bhatt!

And he is back again! Another movie based on the romance of his dad, mom and step-mom, is soon going to be released and will have Emraan Hashmi along with Vidya Balan in the main leads. Aptly titled, Humaari Adhuri Kahaani will be an emotional saga of love told from a son’s point of view!

Bollywood Wants Healthy Actresses!

This must have made you totally confused as to which direction is Bollywood moving in, right?

Hollywood and the whole of western media show women skinnier than skinny and Bollywood wants women to look healthy (fat, for common man’s understanding!)?

How can this be?

What has brought such a change in our Hindi film industry which is most of the times so hypocritical about physical appearances?

First of all, let us tell you the reason for this story. This is based on the latest trailer of an upcoming movie of Ayushmann Khurana titled, Dum Laga Ke Haisha! Being produced by Yash Raj Films and directed by Maneesh Sharma (of Band Baaja Baarat fame) the interesting about the movie is that it is about a husband and wife in which husband is thin while the wife is heavy or rather fat.

Given this premise, as per the trailer, no one is planning to lose weight or gain weight, but letting love develop irrespective of the sizes!

Interesting, isn’t it?

Never before it has been attempted in Bollywood that over-weight has been celebrated, accepted and used to show that love can happen anytime, anywhere, between any two people and physical appearance isn’t that important. In this context, it is definitely a coming of age cinema, feeding into the changing sensibilities of society and contributing in its own sweet manner to the idea of love being above everything else.

However, the trend was started some time ago when Hindi film industry, notoriously known for its size zero actresses and promoting thinner than thin figures for girls, started writing and giving roles to girls who were on the heavier side in real life.
