The whole concept of differentiating between black & white has created debate since past. No matter how much we think that it’s over but the truth is, it still exists. There are many industry that believes “No Racism because we are the same” and it’s a good thing too. But on the other side, there are industries that still differentiates between black & white. Today, we are going to talk about Racism in Fashion Industry.

Yes, Fashion Industry is the most glamorous one.

Racism in Fashion Industry is a common thing. Yes, it is now that many Fashion industries are taking a step to stop racism by giving equal chance to each and every model. Undoubtedly, Fashion industry has proved many times that “Black & White model” are treated equally. But the recent matter will make you think about it.

Recently, a black model “Londone Myers” posted about the struggles that a black woman with natural hair faces in the industry. She shared a BTS time-lapse video that shows she’s waiting for a hairstylist to work on her hair but no one is coming to do the work on her hair. It also shows that they’re working only on doing white woman’s hair. To show the racism , she took a step and uploaded a video.

She revealed some more details while talking to TeenVogue “I was just so frustrated with how people would avoid even looking at me. I usually do my hair before every show, but this time I just showed up without anything on hand like everyone else.

No explanation was given at all. There isn’t really much confronting you can do with these hairstylists. I’m not going to chastise [them], but [they] still don’t know what to do with natural hair … I simply asked around the room for who did black hair multiple times and was cast aside, until they sat me in this guy’s chair who tried to send me off looking unpolished, like the other [black] girls. One of the other black models saw all of the lint in my hair and was surprised.

I used to experience so many people making my hair look so bad. I just started doing the curls they liked before each show and shoot. It got to the point where I was the only one I could rely on. It makes me mad because I know they don’t expect that from most girls; just the ones whose hair is too hard to do.”

Ever since she revealed about industry racism, many people are applauding her for the taking a stand. Now, people are not just calling her an amazing model but an inspirational person too.

No doubt, we really think she did an amazing job. One should know that you shouldn’t disrespect anyone’s hair, just like skin color.

This story is for those who have tons of excuses for not being able to do what they wanted to do or what they wanted to become!

I am sure this is going to bring a clear sense of understanding and some inspiration to get up and start walking.

“I’ve grown up in a red light area, surrounded by the flesh trade all my life.

At 12, I’ve been asked for my ‘rate’ and cried myself to sleep because I didn’t understand it.

But you want to know what’s worse?

It’s that the men who came to ask would all be from the ‘upper class’ as you call it with shiny cars and the perception that they could ‘buy’ anything. But the women there, are my family…they’ve taken care of me when my mother would have to go work at a factory nearby and treated with me so much love and kindness, but I still grew up with a very low self esteem because of my dark colour.

I don’t know why you have to be fair to be beautiful…and because I’m dark I’ve always been called ugly. Once my 12th standard ended, I decided to make a change. I told the people at my Municipal school that I wanted to study, learn English and make something of myself.

That’s when I went to an organization called Kranti.

I spent the next year, travelling across India conducting workshops on sex education, and that’s when I realized that not everyone judges me for my background and kind of got my self esteem back.

I’ve always been a day dreamer, so I randomly just said it out loud one day that I want to go America (at that point I didn’t even know if it was a continent, a city or a country) and through Kranti’s efforts I got a full scholarship at Bard College to study Liberal Arts. We crowd sourced the rest of the money for my accomodation and day to day expenses and my life has just turned around…I’ve been to semester at Sea, I speak fluent English and have amazing entrepreneurial ideas to make a difference to my home…to Kamathipura.

Yes, open your mind about my home. Accept that people have choices and know that so many women there are in it by choice…because it’s their source of livelihood. As Indians, we need to judge less and accept things that are not always in our comfort zone, because my background is not my weakness…

I’m me, and no location can define who I am.”

Don’t we all shackle ourselves in the false limitations of our circumstances and situations?

Don’t we know that we can be what we want to be, only if we start taking few steps forward?

Don’t we just keep doing nothing and blame the situations and outer factors for our own failures?

Well, this story makes me believe all that and much more!!

The politicians aren’t at fault for taking us all for granted. It’s their right that, someone passing racist remarks, someone else napping inside the parliament; someone watching porn during proceedings of the house and someone instigating people on religious lines; someone is talking about colour of skin to someone defying science and logic for their own selfish gains. It’s their way! All these political leaders are not in power because they wanted to, but solely for the reason that we, as individual voters, voted them in power! And what have we got? Some of the most obnoxious politicians who seem to have had their brains kidnapped during birth!

Why only politicians? We are the ones who have given crazy ass people like Kamaal R Khan a platform to vomit shit whenever he wants to. Yes, he is a so called entertainer, but does he really entertains? Is he really contributing to the growth of creative soul of our country? Absolutely not!

The lady who is a walking-talking advertisement of Botox is always around to give her opinions on everything in the country for her petty benefit of getting some role in a movie or show which she most probably doesn’t even deserve. However, she gets it because there are so many people who want to listen to our crap and laugh at her, rather than with her. But are we so intelligence deprived that we have to resort to such low-level gimmicks for our entertainment?

These are just a couple of examples of people who are known to divide us, test our intelligence, play with our emotions and cheat us on every possible level. Whether it is our invaluable vote or precious time to be entertained, these people are hell bent on furthering their cause, at our cost!

Are we still up and about to do anything about this riotous ruling in India?

Are we taking a step ahead in the direction to bring meaningful entertainment to us?

Then who exactly should be put in the “Ch%@#as Hall of Fame”?

Well, it’s high time we stop such idiots from getting into power and if somehow they reach there, it becomes our duty to kick them out of that position by exercising our vote carefully! It is also a plea to those who do not get up to cast their vote!

It’s our responsibility to outcast the imprudent entertainers. SAY NO to crap!

The world right now is suffering from a lot of problems that involve violence. The political unrest in many countries like Syria, Israel, Afghanistan, etc. have caused massive violence among the people and taken many innocent lives. Similarly, the world has turned into a global village due to globalization and liberalization and somehow has made communication easy. But even then, somehow the humanity seems to be losing its importance. There have been zillions of cases in recent times where the Indians have been recklessly beaten up by the people in foreign countries be it Australia or America. Even after such advancement we are still entangled in petty issues of racism and religion.

A recent case this time has been reported from Birmingham, England. An Indian Sikh man has been beaten up ruthlessly by the local people. The video has gone viral on social media and this time again the crowd stood as mere spectator to the harsh incident. People didn’t even bother to stop the fight and peace out among the people. In the video you will see the victim struggling alone while fighting the attackers.

While the victim is still unidentified, the shocking part is that the West Midlands police claim the video to be 6 months old. The reason of the whole incident still remains unclear, though many people claim that the root cause can be racism and on the basis of religion, as per the tone of the video. What is more shocking is that the victim alone is trying to fight against the group of people during the attack and not a single person showed up from the crowd to help.

This is not for the first time that these kinds of attacks have come into the light. There have been many cases where Indians have lost their life in such brutal attacks. The main question that arises here is about proper actions taken against the accused. Few days back, the much talked about documentary, ‘India’s Daughter’ was released and banned in India, which depicted the whole incident of the 16^th December rape case. The documentary tells about the harsh realities and the mentality of the Indian society.

But then, I would like to ask BBC, why don’t they make a documentary on such incidents taking place on their own ground? Why don’t they bring out the facts and mentality of the people in their own country? It is very easy to raise voice against something wrong but at the same, it is very difficult to realize the mistake and work towards it.

Hope things get better in the near future and humanity is saved by the so called peace-makers who are working against such incidents!
