Your perfectly made-up face can fall flat if your lips are chapped, cracked or dark due to the harsh winter winds outside. Fret not, dearies…here are five tried and tested tips to heal your chapped and dry lips! Read on:

Petroleum Jelly:
One of the most common remedies for dry lips is petroleum jelly. It helps keep your lips soft, moisturized and nourished. Go for clear jelly that will not discolour lips in the long run. The petroleum jelly can also be applied as a base coat before using your regular lipstick and gloss. It keeps the lips supple and helps prevent chapping and bleeding of colours.

SPF balms:
Sun’s harmful rays can rob your lips off moisture and darken them. So go for a lip balm that has a good SPF content. It should be a tad higher than your sun screen as lips are more vulnerable than your skin. Go for neutral balms and not fruity ones as the SPF content can get reduced due to the unnatural flavours present in the balm.

Jojoba oil:
It’s one of the main ingredients in balms that helps lock the moisture in. Apply it every night before going to bed and see the difference in a fortnight. You can even warm it up a little to make sure that the oil enters your lips. Moreover, if you’re facing a burning sensation, apply a bit of this oil for a cool experience!

Ghee:
Yes, the cooking ghee is one of the best items to heal chapped lips. It’s made of fat that’s not only healthy for you, but also a quick-fix if you don’t have a balm nearby. Use it regularly for moisturized and nourished lips.

Regular exfoliation:
Use a gentle brush to remove dead and dry skin. Just like you regularly exfoliate your face and hands, use the same exfoliation cream to make your lips supple. Do it once a week to keep your kissers in the best shape possible.

The best way to avoid chapping your lips is to stay out of the cold and to stop licking your lips when your lips start drying out. Eat healthy and drink lots of water to keep them hydrated at all times!
