Everything You Need To Know About The Pulwama Attack

Kashmir was recently jolted by the ugliest terror attack in nearly two decades. This attack claimed at least 42 lives of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel. The 14th February Pulwama attack exceeded the monstruousness of Uri attack of 18th September in 2016 in terms of scale and casualties. In the Uri attack, the terrorists targeted an Army Brigade Headquarters that claimed the lives of 19 soldiers. The last Uri attack stunned the nation and made our blood boil. We all sought retributive punishment for the culprits and our desire of vengeance was satiated by a surgical strike conducted by Indian thereafter.

The Pulwama attack resonated with the car-bombing at the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Complex in Srinagar on 1 October 2001. The terror attack evoked similar amount of fear amongst the civilians. In the October 1 attack, three terrorists rammed a Tata Sumo laden with explosives into the main gate of the complex which killed 38 people.

But the main cause of concern here is that unlike the previous terror attacks, the Pulwama attack was carried out by a local militant Adil Ahmad Dar. The scathing Pulwama attack made both our head and heart hang in shame.

According to the news agency PTI,

42 CRPF personnel have been martyred in a terrorist attack on a convoy of the security forces. Police have identified the terrorist as Adil Ahmad Dar alias Waqas Commander from Kakapora in Pulwama. Followed by the attack, US has intervened and asked Pakistan to immediately rip the terror gropus off all the immunities that those have been enjoying so far. Pakistan was believed to have been supporting and providing ‘safe haven’ to all terror groups operative on its soil.

The local Kashmiri terrorist Adil Ahmad Dar was driving the Scorpio car that they rammed into the military vehicle cilling 42 Jawans. Home Minister Rajnath Singh spoke to the DG CRPF RR Bhatnagar following the attack. J&K Police has immediately probed into the matter and post-blast analysis was done at the spot only.

Your blood may curdle to learn that the explosives used for the attack were so strong that the blast was heard from 10-12 km away, including some parts of Srinagar adjoining the Pulwama district. After the 2001 attack, this was the first suicide car bomb strike in Kashmir where the three suicide attackers died on the spot.

Going by the answer provided by the Union Government in the Lok Sabha, terror incidents in Jammu and Kashmir have increased by 261% in the passage of last five years which is really frightening. In this video below, you will find out what PM Modi has to say about the grimness of the attack:
