Even as a dodgy Barcelona looks to put their ‘El Clasico’ troubles behind, ace forward Lionel Messi will look to take his side towards victory in what could be a historic night for the Argentince.

Messi will seek to become the all-time leading goalscorer in La Liga just days after equalling a similar feat in the Champions League when Barcelona visits lowly Almeria.

The Argentina skipper drew level with Real Madrid legend Raul on 71 Champions League goals in midweek against beat Ajax but is just one goal short of the 251 goals scored by legend, Telmo Zarra for Athletic Bilbao.

Even as there’s little doubt about Messi’s hunger for goals, the striker has been unable to shoot past in his last two league outings. More and less, that slump in form has coincided with Barca’s summer recruit, Luis Suarez who was out serving a four-month ban biting at the World Cup. The Uruguayan has yet to find the net in his three appearances for the Catalans and has been frustrating for the forward who was about to break the duck against former club, Ajax but couldn’t.

Much has been talked about Barcelona’s defense and add to more woes, another summer signing Jeremy Mathieu will sit out due to injury with Spaniard, Gerard Pique might getting the nod from manager Luis Enrique.

Luis Suarez might get more encouragement about his recent slump in form with the backing of mercurial Messi. The latter is not worried and expects the goals to come from the former Liverpool forward. Messi said, “We are happy Luis is with us and he is adapting to our philosophy. This was his third game and we expect more from him given the class of striker he is.”

With Almeria at hands, it’s a great opportunity for Suarez to break the goal drought and prove the pundits wrong. He may have missed the Ballon D’or award nomination but with the likes of Leo Messi and Neymar surrounding him, Suarez could turn out to be a key marksman in the coming months.
