It’s said that when you fall in love, your heart beats a lot faster than it usually does. And this makes your whole body to pump more blood in order to keep the adrenaline flowing to your heart so it behaves itself. It’s not just your heart that goes overboard, your brain is up to twenty percent smarter and quicker during your lovey-dovey days. And when the love is one-sided, your senses are further enhanced as every cell in your body is doing all it can to make you attractive and desirable for the other person. Yes, this is exactly why you take the extra five minutes in the bath, you suddenly turn fashion-conscious and take good care of your hygiene. What the longing does to you is makes you a better person, the kind of person you want to meet.

This is also the kind of love that will keep you awake at night, pushing you to do more than your calibre. If you see, some of the world’s greatest poets, writers, filmmakers and others in the top have failed in love. In fact, it’s those painful rejections that have made them so gloriously successful. Of course, there are others who turn into Devdas and throw their lives away, chasing something that’s never going to be theirs. But even in that agony, they are willing to change, improve and enhance themselves…that’s what makes unrequited love so special. Despite any joy or commitment in return, you continue to be the way you are. You think of that person first thing in the morning and through the day till you fall asleep. You make excuses to talk to them, you try to impress them in more ways than you can ever imagine. You become socially more active. You find out ways to accidentally ‘bump’ into them. In a way, you are willing the universe to grant you that onespecial wish.

Although unreciprocated love is never something we would voluntarily wish for, it does make us a more rounded human being. When you’re in a relationship, you see both the good and bad sides of you partner. And that leads to arguments, fights and in some cases, break-ups. But in a situation like this, you see them only in the best light possible. You could practically kiss the ground they walk upon. There are no ego hassles and certainly no power games. It’s more peaceful and satisfying than actually being in a relationship with them. Because that’s when their true colours will be known to you and you can easily fall out of love with them!

Unrequited love most definitely prepares for life struggles. You come to know very early in life that you’re never going to get all that you wish and crave for. Failures and rejections will be as much a part of your life as successes and joys. The pining for your crush will make you mentally and creatively stronger and bolder. You will never be afraid to say and do what you feel or fear rejection as you have already got the biggest blow of your life. Probably that’s why, failing in love is said to be the biggest teacher in the world.

And let’s not forget that whatever the outcome of it, you do feel insanely happy and crazily productive. You feel like this is the best thing to have happened to you and you’re ready to fight anything and everything to get it.
