One of the most important skills required to run a school is leadership.

The competencies that define leadership include measurable skills, knowledge, and abilities useful in the smooth running of school.

With a mission to make every school in India be led by an effective leader, the India School Leadership Institute (ISLI) creates opportunities for leaders who prepare children for higher education and being a responsible citizen.

Life gives us many opportunities to grab and take charge of. Though there are many out there who start with leadership development, not all of them turn out successful. The ISLI was started about an year back owing to the lack of leadership training courses in India.

We tell you all about the process of leadership training a prospective leader undergoes at the ISLI.

WHAT

Launched in May 2013, the India School Leadership program offers a fellowship that trains present or aspiring school leaders to lead schools from low-income communities. The duration of the fellowship is one year and the program aims at theoretical training and experimental learning of the leaders. There are two separate fellowships to speak about, namely, the National fellowship and the City fellowship.

WHERE

The National Fellowship at the ISLI is implemented according to the functioning academic year of the high performing schools in the region. Residences are provided by the program, so as to make the fellows comfortable synthesizing their learning and turning them into plans. The National Fellowship prepares a candidate to lead anywhere in the country, irrespective of the amount of resources and customization.

The City Fellowship was launched in May 2014, in Delhi, and aims at bringing best quality development opportunities to current school leaders. The City fellows get in touch with a network of educating leaders from varied backgrounds, through which they learn about proper functioning and leading a school.

The duration of both the fellowships is one year.

ELIGIBILITY

Candidates need to meet certain requirements before they apply to any of the fellowships.

For the National Fellowship, a candidate must be committed towards working for the upliftment of children from underprivileged societies across the country. Apart from that, the candidate must be a current school leader, or an exceptional teacher who wants to get training in leading a school, or a successful leader who though is from a non-education background, but wishes to apply his/her skills to a school.

For the City Fellowship, a candidate must have hands-on experience in leading a school, or has on-going commitments that requires his/her presence in school, or is leading a low-income school.

While there may be a number of leadership programs prevalent in the corporate sector, a school leadership program is something that is not much heard of. Leading the future of the world is a big responsibility, especially if you are not too much on funds. The ISLI makes the leadership dream come true, with the most effective ways possible.
