10 Regional Celebrities Who Became a Common Face In Bollywood Now

Regional celebrities – Bollywood always springs us with innumerable surprises and every year we look up to Bollywood for some new refreshments.

There has been a paradigm shift from the notion that only super star studded films hit the 100 crores mark and women centric films are up to no good. We thank Kangana Ranaut and Vidya Balan for the latter category and some regional actors and stars like Rajkumar Rao, Irrfan Khan for the former. Talking about the regional stars, Bollywood has unearthed some distinctly notable talents from regional film industries who became the common face in Bollywood now as for having enormous artistic promise.

1. Parambrata Chatterjee:

Parambrata Chatterjee is a well-known and versatile actor in Bengali film industry who fares equally well as a second fiddle and the protagonist. Some of his remarkable performances are Baishey Shrabon, Teen yaari kotha, kaalbela in Bengali and he debuted in Hindi movies with Kahaani directed by Sujoy Ghosh. He will now be seen in Pari next to Anushka Sharma.

2. Jisshu Sengupta:

Jishu Sengupta is another renowned Bengali film celebrity who is known for his perfect Bengali Bhadralok (gentleman) looks. Some of his notable films in Bengali are The Last Lear, Noukadubi, Shob Choritro Kalponik and Abohoaman. He debuted in Hindi movies with Kahaani directed by Sujoy Ghosh, then made a cameo in Mardaani. He is soon to be seen in Manikarnika against Kangana Ranaut.

3. Aditi Rao Hydari:

She made a name for herself in Tamil films before she was spotted by Rakesh Omprakash Mehra for a brief role in Delhi-6. Her notable Tamil performance was in the film Sringaram and then she featured in some hit Hindi films like Rockstar, Murder 3, Wazir where her roles grabbed eyeballs. She will soon be seen in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmavati.

4. Diljit Dosanjh:

Diljit Dosanjh is a Punjabi actor whose Bollywood debut Udta Punjab made him a directors’ favourite. He has shown some serious acting chops in his Punjabi film Pujbab 1984 which won the National Film Award for best Punjabi Feature Film. His Patiala Peg was also a massive hit in Punjab. He acted in the film Phillauri against Anushka Sharma and left his mark in Bollywood. He is likely to be seen in the film Arjun Patiala against Kriti Sanon soon.

5. Rajesh Sharma:

Rajesh Sharma is a household name now after his benchmark performances in Hindi movies such as Tanu Weds Manu Returns, Khosla Ka Ghosla, No One Killed Jessica, Chillar Party, The Dirty Picture etc. He, whose seamless North Indian accent is adored by many, is actually a Bengali film actor who worked in there from 2000s. Some of his notable Bengali movies are Paromitar Ekdin, Shubho Mahurat, Mishawr Rawhoshyo etc.

6. Radhika Apte:

One can’t go without mentioning Radhika Apte in this list because of her beauteous performances in Bollywood movies back to back. She is a Marathi actress who debuted in Bollywood with Shor in the City, then after Hunterrr’s release she bagged films like Badlapur, Manjhi, Parched and finally the critically acclaimed short film Ahalya. She also showed her acting standards in the film Phobia and soon to be seen against Akshay kumar in Padman. Some of her notable Marathi movies are Laal Bhaari, Tukaram etc.

7. Illeana D’Cruz:

Illeana followed the footprints of Asin, Tamannah Bhatia from being a South Indian actress to feature in Bollywood movies and surpassed them all. She worked in Telugu movies since 2000s and debuted in Bollywood with Anurag Basu’s Barfi as a Bengali housewife. Then she gave us hit numbers like Rustom, Main Tera Hero, Phata Poster Nikla Hero. Some of her notable Telugu movies are like Pokkiri, Devadasu, Bhale Dongalu etc and she will be seen in Hindi movie Raid against Ajay Devgan real soon.

8. Dhanush:

Dhanush is a coveted actor in Tamil films who made his Bollywood debut against Sonam Kapoor in the film Raanjhana. He is Tamil superstar Rajnikanth’s son-in-law whose notable hits are like Velaiyilla Pattathari, Pudhupettai, Kodi etc. He will be seen in a Bollywood flick soon which happens to be the remake of the Tamil film Agni Natchathiram.

9. Vikram:

Viram is a superb actor down south who forayed into Hindi films with Raavan. Also, Bejoy Nambiar’s David is also attributed to him. Hope a fine actor like him bags more significant roles in Bollywood.

10. Tapsee Pannu:

Despite being a Sikh, Tapsee started her career in the Telugu film industry before debuting in Bollywood with Chashme Baddoor. Her career has perfectly panned out now that she gave ass-kicking performances in Pink, Baby, Naam Shabana, Judwaa 2 Some of her notable Telugu performances are Vastadu Naa Raju, Kanchana 2, Veera, Tadka.  Her upcoming movie is Mulk in Bollywood.
