There has been quite a lot of confusion about who will star in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Bajirao Mastani for quite a while now.
The project which was to be made with Salman and Aishwarya at one point is now destined to be made with the younger stars – Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh. And looks like the two have become hardcore Sanjay Leela Bhansali loyalists now. After Ram Leela, the couple is all set to take up yet another challenging role.
Well, the news is that Ranveer has to polish his Marathi speaking skills before he steps into the shoes of the famous Maratha. And even though Singh considers himself quite an expert in Marathi, SLB has given him special instructions to tone down that confidence of his and focus on the subtle nuances of the language. The director has also suggested the idea of hiring a Marathi tutor so that the actor can brush up on his twang.
Now the other thing SLB is dreading is Ranveer’s uber high flow of energy. I am sure questions like, will he be able to portray the warrior-like mature and sorted demeanour of Bajirao or will he go overboard with his act, are running through the filmmaker’s head. And why not, we all know how Singh can get super enthusiastic about everything and turn a li’l whacky in the process.
Well, for people who don’t know…there are two angles to the ‘Bajirao- Mastani’ story. The credible one is that after Bajirao rescued the Maharaja of Chhatrasal in Bundelkhand province from the Mughal chief Mohammed Khan Bangash, the king handed his daughter Mastani to Baji as a token of gratitude. The other version is that Mastani was Baji’s mistress and that the Peshwa was already hitched to someone else.
Well, what do you think, will Ranveer be able to pull off Bajirao’s character or he will fall flat on his charming li’l face…
