The debate of young couples getting slapped on Badlapur skywalk has gone viral gathering various reactions from all across the country.

The video shows a group led by Shiv Sena worker Naresh Phakhle slapping couples for PDA (public display of affection) on Badlapur skywalk, Ulhasnagar.

Times Now even had a panel debate where the Shiv Sena aide who had slapped couple, blatantly admitted to the act of protecting Indian ‘Sanskriti’.

Mostly the young students from the R.K.Talreja college of Arts, Science and Commerce hang out on the Badlapur skywalk. The Shiv Sena aides decided to take law in their own hands and teach morality to the young couples by slapping them.

They slapped the young girls and guys for doing obscene things in public. In the news channel someone raised the point of pissing in public a bigger offence to kissing in public. Someone also talked about obscenity being subjective. The news anchor actually asked the Shiv Sena aide that slapping people is equally obscene action.

According to the workers accused of slapping they had filed a police complaint but the police didn’t take any action. There are two meanings to it: either the police didn’t find anything obscene or the police is inactive.

Obscenity and the so called ‘Sanskriti’ is different to different person. Now in India where so many cultures blend in one umbrella of the tricolor how do we structure or define obscene is a matter of huge debate.

Watch the below video where from one angle some people may perceive it to be teaching ‘morality’ but from another angle it is an act of harassment that calls for immediately imprisonment.

The Shiv Sena aide questioned people in the TV debate wether they support obscenity. Just one point answer to that, “Sir we don’t support violence…slapping is universally accepted as an act of violence whereas kissing might be obscene for you but for lot of people it is an act of goodwill and love.”
