It is a memorable day of Indian cricket history when the journey initiated on the playground of Lords, England. Lord’s possesses a special place in the cricket of Indian history that did not reduce with time. Therefore, today standing into the age of IPL it shoves back to dolce and experience about the Indian test cricket to IPL.

The victory was not at all possible to the first call, after 20 years of delay to win the first cup was in hands of the Indian team.

King of the test match, Indian cricket team

For long years of cricket in history, Bhagwat Chandrashekhar is known as the King of test cricket. His average runs of 4.07 is still a record with 23 ducks after playing about 80 test innings. A leg spinner former player suffers from polio on his right hand from a young age. He is known as the Wisden cricketer of the year from 1972.

Victory in the Indian world cup

Till 1983, until Kapil Dev’s captaincy, the Indian team did not rank globally. Continuously in the international career for 50 years were the weak teams playing 35 test matches. After the arrival and captaincy of Kapil Dev, the Indian fast bowler in 1983 the Indian cricket team was home with the world cup. This was the first moment to cherish when believing as the weak team turns to “Go-great-guns”.

First ODI match

The first one-day match in cricket history was in Melbourne cricket ground, it was between Australia and England. The sudden change in the schedule to play ODI was due to the rainfall and wet ground. After which the conception grew favorable in cricket. Now One day was growing with reducing matches of Test Matches.

Test match scoring is always been a hard job when comparing with the ODI’s and IPLs. But the time consumption is the less and the maximum team can play. Hereby in 1974, the Indian cricket team stepped in ODI’s against England.

Transformation to IPLs

The ODIs have not lost their charm and enthusiasm with the transformation to IPLs. The India cricket team plays both international and national tournaments that are Twenty20. The innings reducing to mini-leagues introducing young energies to the India cricket team. Creating opportunities for the young teens who want to play cricket.

The first Indian Premiere league was in 2008 organized by the BCCI in Bangalore. Dhoni is known as the King of the IPL in 2020. Though there is less difference between the rule of ODIs and IPLs but the preference for both are variable. ODI’s own the 50 overs per innings while the IPL have 20 overs per innings.

Once again the players are playing for less time with 20 overs each team comparing to the 50 overs. Though the Indian cricket team is facing transformation each segment has its own caliber and proximity to attract and influence their vast crowds of fans and followers.

Virat Kohli, who has just taken up the full-fledged full-time responsibility as captain of the Indian test cricket team also, needs no introduction. After all, rarely has someone caught the attention of an entire nation with his performances as well as leadership skills to be elevated to captaincy so soon.

Last it was Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who came out of nowhere to lead India and did a splendid job!

Now everyone knows the way Virat is going about his batting, he is currently the only eligible batsman in queue to break all possible records of Sachin Tendulkar! His swagger, his demeanour may all be very different than the maestro, but his run-making ability and ability to perform in almost any condition on any pitch is what makes him stand out of the crowd.

However, what is of concern is that Sachin’s captaincy is the only blot on his otherwise sparkling career! Sachin’s records as a captain are really poor and the fear is would Virat follow his footsteps? Being only a batsman is a different kind of responsibility where he focuses only on his batting. But being a captain means he would need to focus on him apart from 10 other players in equal measure and ensure India wins every possible match! Now that’s what is tricky. Not everyone is able to handle the pressure in a cool and calm manner the way Dhoni does. Even Saurav Ganguly’s batting skills took a back step when he became captain as he wasn’t able to give his best to batting.

Therefore, it is important to see that a player of Virat’s calibre is not allowed to go down the drain just because of his captaincy! As such, the only flaw in his otherwise aggressive body language is that the same kind of aggression also results in the downfall of mightiest! To be a good leader, one needs to have a calm head over his shoulders while Virat’s phenomenal performances are the result of his aggressive, non-fearing courageous batting style. That may work as a captain or might backfire as well! As of now, it has worked smoothly and everyone has been mighty impressed by his on-field performances. That is one reason he is one of the most feared players in the world today and opposition is already factoring in his presence to plan strategies against team India!

It is imperative for selectors to keep an eye on Virat the batsman more than Virat the captain! We need his batting skills more if we want India to rule the cricketing world for years to come. Let not the burden of captaincy affect this potentially huge batsman out to re-write the record books of cricket!

Read carefully, they haven’t broken up, they are going to!

And only IF certain conditions are met! ONLY IF!!!

Yeah, now since your excitement levels are down and reality has sunk in, let’s tell you what’s actually happening in the love-birds’ nest.

In comparison to love affairs of the cricketing world and Bollywood, this love affair is at a very nascent stage, kind of a new born. However, it is growing up really fast and it is a fact that when things move faster than required, lot of accidents happen. Same can be the case with Virat Kohli And Anushka Sharma if certain things are not taken care of.

The first and foremost reason is Anushka’s acting assignments. No doubt that she is one of the top rated stars of the country and has been doing some of the most amazing projects, the latest one being Dil Dhadakne Do. However, what puzzles is how Virat would be taking in the kissing scenes and love-making scenes Anushka do so very often! Well, we are broad-minded and we do consider it as a part of her job and no big deal about it. But Virat is publicly known to be short-tempered and a typical dilli-walla munda! Is he taking it well?

Before they became a couple, it was not even an issue for Anushka to conduct her professional career the way she wanted to and even now, it should not be of anyone’s concern. However, what if during one of those long intimate scenes and rehearsals etc, she develops some feeling towards her co-actor? How difficult or impossible is that? There are load of love-stories in Bollywood that started with couples spending long hours together and displaying such intimacy on-screen! Where would that leave Virat?

Also, what if Virat finds someone else during one of his long overseas tours when Anushka isn’t around him? Given the massive female fan following that Virat has all over the world, it is not a big deal for girls to throw themselves at him! Yes, as of now, he has resisted the temptations, but who knows about the future guys?

Long distance relationships are not easy to work upon. Since one partner is seen kissing and getting intimate, so very often with so many different men, the trust issues are obviously going to erupt every few days if not hours! Indian men are not known for open-minded approach, but most are considered to be orthodox in their approach when it comes to their wives and girlfriends. We don’t know yet what category Virat falls into, but if he is one of those old-school kinds, then the relationship is doomed for sure!

It will not be a matter of “if” but it will be a concern of “when”!

Let’s hope the day never comes and they live happily ever-after!

One of the most successful captains of Indian cricket team, he is known for cool captaincy which results in more success than failure.

He is known to be so sharp that his competitors across the globe try hard to analyze as to how does he think and take such quick decisions on the field resulting in snatching victory from the jaws of loss!

However, he is a human being after all!

Lately, his performance as a captain came under scrutiny after leading India to multiple losses during foreign tours. To his credit, he realized his folly and took retirement. But is that enough or does he need to have a rethink about his cricket career as a whole involving the shorter versions of the game as well, including one-day cricket and T 20?

While we did win the World Cup 2011 under his captaincy, we lost the latest edition in Australia. Now, if we follow his IPL game, despite topping the charts with maximum wins, the team Chennai Super Kings doesn’t look that formidable or unbeatable compared to its earlier versions. In previous seasons, CSK used to dominate, but this season they are fighting it hard. Also, the semi-final which they lost yesterday to Mumbai Indians was such a one-sided event. Needless to say, Dhoni’s captaincy leaves much to be desired! He didn’t look in terrific form both as a captain and as a batsman. Of course, getting bowled out on the first ball must have been frustrating for him, but is there something brewing below the surface that needs urgent attention?

We are talking about all the off-field controversies the team is involved in due to court cases of the owners owing to match fixing and power struggles going on with constant media scrutiny resulting in too much of additional unwanted stress. Either that or he is actually ageing and not listening to his body!

There is no doubt Dhoni is a terrific player and we can’t write him off just by one debacle. Having said that, the patterns have to be analysed clearly as well as action needs to be taken based on facts and not purely on emotions. He is out from Test cricket, one-dayers he is good, but for how long one can’t say.

And now even in a domestic league like IPL, even with a good amount of international players, his performance is not top notch! In this edition of IPL, he has scored only one 50 with an average of 32.80 which is amongst his lowest batting averages across all IPL seasons!

A leader has to lead from the front, but it seems Dhoni is trying to find his feet and stand firm on a shaky ground!

Let’s hope he regains his Midas touch and do wonders for Indian cricket as well as the domestic cricket he is proudly a part of!

The “Rebel Tours”, as it was branded in the 1980s, was one of the tournaments of apartheid-era South Africa. In order for them to access cricket clubs, the West Indian players were labelled as “honorary white”. Colin Craft, a fast bowler, was one of the members of this West Indian team. Standing at 6 feet 5 inches, he was renowned for bowling bouncers and considered very aggressive. In the 1977 tour to Pakistan, he amassed figures of 8/29 against the host which is still his best bowling performance. Overall, he played 27 Test matches for the West Indies taking 125 wickets at an average of 23.30.

Brenan Nash is a Jamaican Australian cricketer who has also played international cricket for West Indies in ODIs and Tests. A left-arm medium bowler, he made his international Test debut against New Zealand in 2008. The last match he played was in 2011 against India. His One-Day session with West Indies lasted for just one year, when he played his last match in 2009 versus New Zealand. Simon Wilde once wrote an article for The Sunday Times highlighting Nash titled “Nash cracks Caribbean barrier”, which was also reference to the cricketer belonging to the white community. Though one would call Nash a batsman more than a bowler judging by his average, his career did not last long.

Matthew Sinclair (New Zealand)

Matthew Sinclair’s heart touching story was only recently covered by one of the newspapers introducing him as one of the callers on a radio show hosted by Mark Richardson. When asked who the caller was, Sinclair replied, “I scored a double hundred on my debut”. Being good with statistics, Richardson recognised him soon. The discussion that followed would definitely melt cricket fans’ hearts. Sinclair, now retired, works as a real estate agent in Napier. The 29-year-old former Kiwi cricketer explained how difficult his life has become since retirement. Since he is unable to provide much for his family, even his personal life is in tatters. Sinclair averages 32 in Tests and has scored three centuries.

Mick Lewis was one of the most accurate bowlers the game of cricket had ever seen. However, he was also what one would call “a late bloomer”. Though he never played Test cricket for Australia, he did play One Day Internationals and made his debut at the age of 31 against New Zealand in 2005. He played 7 matches wherein he took seven wickets at an average of 55. He also holds the notorious record of conceding the most runs in an ODI when he bowled with the figures of 10-0-113-0.

Kuruvilla probably is the tallest player to have played for India towering at 6’5. He played 10 Tests and 25 ODIs for India claiming 25 wickets in both formats. He led the bowling attack during the 1997 India’s tour to West Indies when Javagal Srinath suffered from an injury. Even though he bowled decently, he was dropped from the side eventually and failed to make a comeback ever. Though, not all was lost for Kuruvilla, as he was appointed as the national selector from BCCI in 2012.
