Tennis players playing with their left are supposed to have better timing and react under pressure. Their moves and reactions are observed to be faster than the right-handed ones.

Brian Lara, Saurav Ganguly, and Allan Border are considered the top left-handed players in the world of cricket. Tennis players such as Rafael Nadal, John Mcenroe, and Bob Bryan are famous for their performances.

Specifically, the performances and contributions of left hands are observed in cricket. Both left and right-handed specialists in the team.

Left-handed Lead in Top sports worldwide

All the top games and sports have both left and right-handed players. But comparing both categories of players, the left-handed excels.

Less accustomed to left-handed players

One of the common felt benefits of using the left is that they are minimum in number. Out of 40 people, only one may be a person who uses the left hand for their activities. So the interaction with left-handed people is less. It is when in sports the players have a special feature that gives them the scope to excel.

So, there are fewer strategies that are planned and developed against them. There is less competition as the majorities are the right-hand users who have few tendencies and chances of facing the lefties.

Better moves

Believe it or not, they have to use their left hands from their birth and they have better reflexes. It gives them the stronger ability to react instantly as per the requirement at any moment. Sports require high spirit, as well as immediate action ability.

Compared to the right-handed lefties can faster grab the opportunities to perform to their best level. It can be in the field of baseball or table tennis, in each sport their playing strategies are high.

Stronger Brainwork

As it is already known and believed that the left-hander is intelligent. Wherever they may be positioned they have a top position. It can be a job, business, or sports their contribution always provides benefits. The brain hemisphere that has the connectivity makes the left stronger, which lacks in right-handed people. Their smartness is incomparable which makes them the stronger players in sports. The processing of the information immediately after observance takes time for the righties.

Less pressure and good performances

Lefties are found to work instantly with the useful cognitive enhancing less pressure realization. They are found to do better even when under strong pressure. They can give their best to overcome any intense stress while playing.

Studies and research worldwide on the ability of the left-handed have found their presence in the top-ranked sports as high rankers.

Nature and greenery already act as a spiritual inspiration and provides energy to the mind. Not only the energy is segregated to the mental health but it boosts the physical energy of a human body. Based on the perception the Outdoor games have been the most beneficial to groom will power, also built good health. In the pandemic of Covid-19, the outdoor games have faded with the prior need for social distancing.

Indian outdoor games ranging from Kabaddi, archery, Gilli Danda, Kho Kho, and Hockey are mostly played seen in the streets of the villages and fields of the urban areas. Maybe it can be for the childhood times as one grows older it the necessity remains the same. With the increase of other requirements the outdoor games are mostly restricted to walking, exercises, and cycling. Which are not a team game at all!….

Lack of playing and having fun is somewhere lost at the age when people start to get busy in their work field. Team games need an interest and desire to be together to have the excitement of outdoor matches with perfect synchronized teamwork to play.

Hereby few of the outdoor games that act as magic for all ages are as follows:

Badminton: Important part of playing badminton is it will develop mental agility which is highly necessary for the improvement of willpower. It is not at all difficult to find some outdoor space outside the lawn to play badminton. Or, it can be the roof that can be best for playing badminton, or joining any organization can be more exciting to get a professional team and training together.

There is a famous saying these days which says that if you sincerely wish for something, the whole Universe conspires to give it to you. It seems the collective wishes and prayers of a host of sportspersons across all kinds of sports except cricket are being answered right now!

The writing is on the wall!

Cricket is dying, day by day, week after week, year after year and the slide is quite phenomenal!

However, the silver lining is it is dying at the cost of other sports which are taking the space which was single-handedly grabbed by an entertainment giant called Cricket.

But first, let’s share with you some figures about cricket’s slow and steady decline.

Hard Facts!!

Firstly, cricket’s reach in India has declined from 77% in 2010 to 70% in 2014.

If one compares the income distributed by BCCI to players, it has declined from Rs. 49crores in 2012-13 to just Rs. 11 crores in 2013-14! Now that is a huge drop!

So what is happening?

Nothing much, except the fact that fatigue is setting in. In this age of really fast life, people are not finding enough time to sit through an 8-9 hour long One-day match without the crowd-pulling power of some outstanding players. It is a fact that the era which took cricket to its stupendous heights was due to some heavyweights of Indian cricket comprising of Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Saurav Ganguly and VVS Laxman. One by one everyone retired, but the final blow was Sachin’s retirement. A whole generation who got stuck to their TV sets due to maestro’s batting suddenly felt a void and couldn’t relate to his absence. No player has been able to fill the big shoes even though Virat Kohli does look promising. In short, the attraction isn’t that huge now that one gets the tendency to leave everything to just watch a match! Moreover, there are other means of entertainment for quick gratification instead of spending five days or even 8hours on a cricket match when it is not inspiring enough!

Who is winning?

The obvious winners are other sports leagues launched in recent years, including comprising of sports like football, hockey, kabaddi, badminton and tennis. These sports take almost as much time as a T-20 takes so it easily squeezes in the busy schedules. The working population is going for variety and the youth isn’t connecting to cricket the way their elders did almost 20years ago. In a way it is good because the money available to promote sports gets distributed for the development of other neglected sports and sportspersons. Instead of only one sports body getting richer and richer, everyone gets a pie of the action and benefits from it.

The Way Forward..

The only question to be answered is whether BCCI and ICC are in tune with changing realities or living in their cocoon? Globally, only 14 countries play cricket and the sports bodies have plans to cut short the number of teams playing in the next World Cup to only 10. In a scenario when cricket is losing its sheen in the biggest market, India, and no major development is happening to promote the sport in other countries, what is the future of cricket not only in India, but world over?

Till they ponder over it, let’s enjoy our IPL games!

At least they are not going anywhere, anytime soon!

She achieved this feat after jumping two spots on her previous career best doubles ranking of No. 3.

Playing alongside Martina Hingis of Switzerland, she won the Family Circle Cup by defeating C. Dellacqua and D. Jurak of Australia and Croatia, respectively. In the process, she also became the first Indian tennis player to accomplish this act.

After her victory and becoming the number one doubles player in women’s tennis, Sania tweeted “I also wanna thank the ppl who didn’t believe in me. You just pushed me harder and made me more determined to fulfil my dreams”.

This tweet is the perfect response to the controversies the Indian tennis star has been involved in since making her debut in 2003. Here we look at some of the storms raised by or at Sania Mirza till date –

Run-in with Jamiat-ulema-e-Hind and Other Muslim Groups

Sania Mirza had a run-in with Jamiat-ulema-e-Hind and other Muslim religious groups

This incident dates back to 2005, two years after Mirza turned pro, when she received flak from several Muslim religious groups including Jamiat-ulema-e-Hind. One of the Muslim scholars questioned her tennis attire (skirt and t-shirt) calling it un-Islamic and debasing. Sania retorted with blaming Jamiat-ulema-e-Hind as being the reason behind her poor form at the time. Ultimately, the entire controversy worked only in her favour, as Mirza got the much-needed protection from the Calcutta police.

The Safe Sex Controversy

Sania Mirza’s public speech about safe sex led to her effigies being burnt

Pre-marital sex has always raised heated arguments in India. When Sania decided to speak about the same, the outcome was not different either. The controversy erupted, again, in 2005 when she spoke about practicing safe sex. When her comments led to people burning effigies in her state of Andhra Pradesh, Mirza decided to provide clarification and quoted, “I would like to clearly say on record that I could not possibly justify premarital sex, as it is a very big sin in Islam and one which I believe will not be forgiven by Allah.”

(Not) Partnering with Shahar Pe’er for Doubles Event

False reports of Sania Mirza not teaming up with Shahar Pe’er on basis of religion raked up controversy

The Shahar Pe’er controversy was the result of perceptive reporting on behalf of the media when several newspapers printed that Mirza had declined to play alongside her Israeli counterpart due to possible protests from the Muslim communities in India. Nevertheless, the two players partnered in the 2007 Wimbledon tournament. Both players know one another since playing as juniors and have remained friends regardless of their religious backgrounds.

The “Resting Feet towards Indian Flag” Controversy

Pictures of Sania Mirza resting her feet facing towards the Indian flag insinuated her lack of respect for the country

During the 2008 Hopman Cup, Mirza was pictured with her feet resting towards the Indian flag during Rohan Bopanna’s match. The photo was immediately circulated within the media after which the Indian women’s tennis player was criticised for showing lack of respect to the country’s flag. In retaliation, the player commented, “I love my country. I wouldn’t be playing Hopman Cup otherwise.”

Telangana Brand Ambassador Controversy

When appointed the brand ambassador of Telangana, Sania Mirza was labelled as Pakistan’s daughter-in-law

Everyone knows what hullabaloo Sania Mirza’s marriage to Pakistani cricketer Shoaib Malik created. Mirza had just broken her engagement to Sohrab Mirza, her childhood friend and millionaire businessman. Thanks to her being one of country’s role models, Mirza was given the honours of being the brand ambassador for the new state of Telangana. Unfortunately, controversy followed her there, too, when she was labelled ‘Pakistan’s daughter-in-law’ by Telangana BJP leader K Laxman. She retaliated with saying, “Hurts me that so much precious time of prominent politicians and the media is being wasted on a petty issue”.

Regardless of the controversies that have surrounded Sania Mirza, the Indian women’s tennis player has been nothing short of a role model to the country’s youth.

Her conquering the number one status in WTA doubles ranking clearly sends a message to all her haters that she is above them all and a genuine person to idolise.

Upon learning about the furore that the picture caused, Federer immediately apologised. He also made it clear that the photo was more a part of a marketing gimmick than him expressing his favouritism towards India during the 2015 ICC Cricket World Cup.

“It was more of a Nike thing to be quite honest,” said the 17-time Grand Slam champion before the commencement of Dubai Open.
