It happened sometime during the monsoon of 2008.

One of them had been working on it for a few months, before other joined exactly an year later.

They quit their full time jobs and started working full time on what they wanted to do.

It’s been quite some time, seven years to be precise, since their venture launched and has come a long way to occupy a huge mindshare amongst Indians crazy for food.

Founded by IIT pass outs- Pankaj Chaddah, Deepinder Goyal and Gunjan Patidar, Zomato is considered as one of the most promising start-ups in India.

Initially known as Foodiebay.com, Zomato has come a long way since it was conceptualized. Two of the founders, Deepinder and Pankaj worked at Bain for about eleven months, while they dedicated their weekends to update Foodiebay. Because it was getting really difficult to manage work and their own business, they quit their jobs to work full time on Foodiebay.

By the time, they quit their jobs, they had a few clients on board and their presence had already been noticed in four cities: Delhi- NCR, Kolkata, Mumbai and Pune. The process of rebranding took place owing to the mention of only food spots for consumers.

What the company has achieved in the past seven years deserves nothing less than a salutation.

When the concept of start-ups was still emerging in the Indian economy, a newly launched secured initial funding for a business model, which was not just unique but also relied upon for good viability and geographic non-specificity for information valuable to all age groups in India and world, was achieving new heights with every passing day.

When you log onto the homepage, you see a collection of services, the website has to offer. While similar food and restaurant hunting websites give you an information about the locality and type of food you might get there, Zomato has much more, which makes it a gimmick in the genre.

From food trending this week to student faves to legendary and celeb spotting, Zomato distinguishes itself from the others.

“The biggest factor for us, as for any start-up, has been the team and the culture around the team. We have been able to put together a great team which never loses, parties hard, and works harder”, says co-founder Pankaj Chadda. Zomato’s presence in 11 countries talks of the hardwork and efforts put in by the team members.

In a span of seven years the company has been valued for Rs 1000 crore and has produced huge value for the entrepreneurs.

To the service of rising utility, urbanization, rising number of foodies in the Indian market and properity of the country, we wish Zomato more growth and success in the years to come.
