Why People Are Stabbed To Death When Raising Voice Against Eve Teasing?

Mumbai, which is supposed to be one of the safest cities for girls, is soon to be questioned for its increase in eve teasing cases and the crime rate that dejects the people living in the city.

Even when the society with its people is coming forward to help and raise voice against the eve teasing, their voices are being crushed. Not all men turn out to be a threat to women and instead voice against the molesters and eve teasers.

Taking the recent case of Ramesh Jadhav, a shiv sena leader,who was stabbed to death by a group of people recently in the city- His only mistake being that he intervened while a group of people were misbehaving with a woman.

When he tried to oppose the goons who molested a woman, they forcibly entered his home, attacked him with sharp weapons, and later on stabbed him to death.

This is not for the first time that such incident has happened. In October 2011, When Keenan Santos and Reuben Fernandez were having dinner with a  group of friends, at a restaurant in Andheri, they were stabbed to death. They got into a fight with few customers at another table, while they passed indecent comments at one of their female friends. When Keenan and Reuben protested against it, they were brutally stabbed to death. 

Similarly, in December 2012, a Punjab policeman was also killed in Chandigarh, in front of public for the agitation against group of men who misbehaved with his daughter.

The above enraging incidents force each one of us to reflect upon where our society is heading towards. Even though there are people coming forward to take a stand against eve teasing, there are fractions of people in the society who act like a push back. Though we have advanced a lot, latest success being that of Mangalyaan’s, there is a part of our society, which still has not opened up with their minds.

Also flutters like these should make us strong to fight back harder against such people, and not to sit back.
