Lame statements by the cornered PM

Cornered by the united opposition on the missing coal files issue, the Prime minister was forced to make an appearance in the Rajya Sabha.

While reading out his statement in the Rajya Sabha, PM Manmohan Singh said that the government was making all the efforts to relocate the missing files. He assured the house that all the papers will be handed over to the CBI within two weeks. He also said that the government was cooperating with the CBI and the CAG over the issue.

Although PM said that the coal ministry has already given a clarification regarding the issue and that the government had nothing to hide, it gave no solace to the opposition. The opposition insisted that the PM speak on the specifics of the missing files and documents saying that his statement was very vague.

The PM held the coal ministry along with the PMO during the year 2004-2009. The missing files pertain to that period too. The Supreme Court has also said that the files has been missing and has asked to file an FIR in the matter,

While saying that the files are not missing and the situation is a hypothetical one, the Prime Minister lied from his teeth, according to the united opposition.

The statements are indeed very vague and the PM is being evasive with the issue.

Moreover, the PM left the house as soon as he made the statement escaping any other query or debate. Parliamentary affairs minister Rajiv Shukla’s plead to let coal minister reply to all the queries fell on the deaf ears.

The chair had to adjourn the house due to the ruckus created after PM left.
