Veteran leader Lalkrishna Advani created another masala for media when he refused to contest from Gandhinagar and showed his interest in contesting from Bhopal.
The Lion of Bhartiya Janata Party has turned old but it roars. It is another matter that his roars do not evoke any command anymore. Veteran leader Lalkrishna Advani created another masala for media when he refused to contest from Gandhinagar and showed his interest in contesting from Bhopal.
After his open disapproval of Narendra modi, which led to latter’s anointment in his absence, this is the second biggest disagreement between him and his party members. Advani was reportedly fearing a possible sabotage on his electoral prospects and so, he was against contesting from Gujarat’s Gandhinagar. His proximity with Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is well known and that is being considered the reason behind his interest in Bhopal seat.
As reported by Firstpost, Prabhu Chawla, editorial director of The New Indian Express, told CNN-IBN during a panel discussion, “”No courtesy was extended to LK Advani. The decision that he would fight the polls from Gandhinagar was made known to him through the press. Ideally Modi should have invited him to contest the polls from his state. It is surprising that when people like Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj, Rajnath Singh and Modi himself are allowed to choose their seats, why was Advani not allowed to do that? If maximization of seats was BJP’s criteria then Advani should have been allowed to choose his seat.”
According to news agencies, the 86-year old party patriarch had conveyed his displeasure to party leaders Sushma Swaraj and Nitin Gadkari, who met him on Wednesday night. He had also skipped party’s central election committee meeting the same day.
Following this discord, Modi, along with other senior leaders like Rajnath Singh and Arun Jaitley, met Advani today at his residence. What transpired during the meeting is not known but the latest news flash said that Advani has agreed with the party leadership to contest from Gandhinagar only and shun his Bhopal dreams.
The concurring discords of Advani with the party since Modi’s ascendance has given whiff to the rumours of latter dividing the party. Whether Advani’s fear is right will only be known after the election results come on May 16.

Advani is the only real BJP loyalist. He hates the Gandhi surname so much he doesn’t want to contest elections from Gandhinagar #kthxbye
