HP Slate 6 VoiceTab Launched In India At Rs 22,990

HP India has launched its newest Android-based voice calling phablet, the HP Slate 6 VoiceTab in the country today at Rs 22, 990.

HP – the tech company best known for its work in laptops, PC’s and printers, have today re-entered the smartphone market after a sabbatical of over two years. The company had promised back in January 2014, that they will introduce two Android-based voice calling devices, the Slate 6 VoiceTab and the larger Slate 7 VoiceTab in February for the Indian market. And staying true to their word, HP has launched the Slate 6 VoiceTab in the country today at Rs 22,990.

Spec-wise the Phablet features a 6-inch 720p IPS display and is powered by a Marvell PXA1088 quad-core SoC clocked at 1.2GHz paired with 1GB of RAM.

The device offers up to 16GB of storage space, which can be expanded to up to 64GB using a microSD card. Camera-specs consists of a 5 megapixel rear camera and a 2 megapixel front facing camera with HD video recording.

The Slate 6 Voice Tab also sports front facing stereo speakers, 3.5mm audio jack, a Micro-USB port and a 3,000mAh battery that is rated at 10 hours of talk time and 7 hours of video playback time by HP. Connectivity features include, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and dual-SIM capabilities (one regular, one Micro-SIM).

The Slate 6 Voice Tab runs on Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean operating system out of the box. Furthermore, HP is also offering three months of unlimited downloads on its HP Connected Music service to Slate 6 VoiceTab owners.

Dimensionally, the HP Slate 6 VoiceTab measures 9mm in thickness and weighs a mere 160 grams making its the slimmest, lightest and most compact device in its class. The phablet has the usual rounded-corners, flat-box design but there are some design elements that make the Slate 6 stand apart from other devices in the market. The removable back cover is made of plastic and has a matte finish. The highlight of the back cover however, is the glass weave finish, which makes the phablet look really nice and classy.

Many technology and Smartphone companies, as we have seen in the recent past are entering the rapidly growing mid-range phablet segment. With the Slate 6 VoiceTab, HP too is aiming to penetrate in the said segment, hoping to grab a piece of the big pie.

In its endeavor, HP has tried to bundle a decent set of features on the new Phablet. However, at Rs 22,990 a piece, the Slate 6 VoiceTab is going to face some stiff competition, considering there are other 6-inch devices in the market today such as the Intex Aqua Octa and Samsung Mega 5.8, which are priced in the similar or even in the lower price range.

We reckon time and sales numbers will reveal how the Indian market reacts to the newest Phablet in town.
