The Acer Aspire Switch 10 is ready for sale in the US from next month. With a few amazing features and a few disappointing drawbacks, we look forward to the review…
Acer announced its latest offering – the Acer Aspire Switch 10, end of last month and it would enter the US market for sale next month. As the name suggests, this is a 10-inch hybrid, with a host of appealing features.
Acer calls it a ‘Four-Position 2-in-1 Device’. With a detachable keyboard it works as a tablet & laptop, giving users the option to use it in four different positions – a Notebook Mode, Pad Mode, Display Mode, and Tent Mode. Equipped with Acer’s unique ‘Snap Hinge’ design, the users may effortlessly switch between tablet, laptop, display screen and tent modes, for the ultimate viewing, working, & gaming experience. It is easy to flip, fold, dock, attach, & detach the tablet.
Features & Specifications:
Powered by an Intel Atom Bay Trail Processor with a clock speed of 1.33GHz, the Acer Aspire Switch 10 Tablet flaunts a 10.1-inch screen, 1366 x 768-pixel display, with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of storage. Featuring Windows 8.1 32-bit software, the gadget comes with a guarantee of up to 8 hours of battery life. Enabled with Microsoft Office Home & Student 2013, the tablet weighs 1.3 pounds (585 grams) and about 2.6 pounds (1.17 Kgs) when weighed with the keyboard.
The Microsoft InstantGo in the tablet promises super fast speed and the AcerCloud allows users to access stored data from other devices too. Another important feature of Acer Aspire Switch 10 is the LumiFlex Display Technology, which offers advanced color control, enabling its buyers to watch videos and photos with clarity even under the sun.
The other significant Acer Aspire Switch 10 specifications include a front-facing 2-megapixel webcam, two front-facing speakers, micro HDMI port, a micro SD memory card slot, a full-size USB port, and more.
Acer may launch another model with 64GB of storage for hardcore laptop users, with another keyboard dock and 500 GB hard drive space.
The Acer Aspire Switch 10 Price in the US is about $349 equivalent to Rs. 21700.
The Acer Aspire Switch 10 with its awesome features is certainly appealing. However, with similar models already available in the market, it is not easy to predict how the gadget would perform and if it would meet the expectations of its manufacturer in terms of sales figures.
The tablet provides various viewing angles, which certainly is a big plus point. Most of its competitors don side or rear speakers, but Acer has rigged the Aspire Switch 10 with two front-facing speakers. Also, what sets the gadget apart from all its rivals is its ‘Snap Hinge’ design which uses plastic braces & magnets and does not need a lock latch.
The tablet’s resolution is ordinary and not a full HD, though the picture clarity is decent. The weight of the tablet is manageable, though we cannot classify it under the super-light gadgets, such as the iPad. With one front facing camera, the tablet does disappoint, as most of its competitors flaunt two of them.
Hence, this tablet-cum-laptop has its own set of pros and cons. However, with an affordable price tag, it is certainly worth considering, and its advantages, as of now, seem to outweigh its disadvantages!
