For the first time ever in India, Bharti Airtel India in collaboration with Apple Inc. has launched 4G mobile serves in the city of Bangalore. Airtel customers in the metropolitan city who own an iPhone 5S or a 5C will be able to enjoy the faster 4G data services on their smartphones at the current 3G prices. All that an Airtel customer has to do is to exchange their current SIM to a 4G SIM to start experiencing the high speed data services on their respective mobile devices – without having migrate from their existing data plans.

Airtel mobile customers using both prepaid and postpaid plans will be able to avail the 4G LTE technology on their Apple smartphones, enabling them to reap the many joys of a faster Internet connection such as high definition video streaming with zero buffering, download 10 movies in less than 30 minutes, seamless video calling, multi-player high resolution gaming and connect multiple devices without any constraints.

Customers on 2G/GPRS data plans/packs can also opt for any of the 3G plans/packs available and enjoy 4G speeds. In addition to these plans, for heavy data users, Airtel has announced the launch of a new 4G plan giving customers 10 GB 4G data for Rs. 1000/-. While data browsing will be on 4G network, voice calls will be routed on 2G/3G seamlessly with the CSFB (circuit switched fall back) technology. The 4G SIMs will be offered on sale across all Airtel stores in Bangalore. Customers can also SMS 4G to 53636 or call 121 for more details.

Announcing the launch, Mr Srini Gopalan, director of Consumer Business, Bharti Airtel India said, “Airtel has always set the technology trends in India and was the first operator to introduce 4G to the country. The Information Technology capital of India saw the advent of 4G in 2012 and today we are proud to announce the launch of the much awaited Airtel 4G services on mobile in partnership with Apple. We will together give customers in Bengaluru the power to upgrade to cutting edge 4G LTE technology at no additional cost. As a brand we are committed to enriching lives of millions by giving them the best user experience and invite our data savvy customers in the city to enjoy this world class data experience.”

Back in 2012, when Airtel India had launched the 4G services in the country, the technology failed to gain any significant momentum, primarily because data cards at that time were not assumed to be conducive for users on the move. However, with 4G services now extended onto smartphones, the LTE technology coupled with CSFB is bound to become a valuable asset in the hands of tech-savvy young Indians who are constantly on the move.
