Kahaani is being remade in English by Yash Raj Entertainment with Hollywood biggies for Western market. Uday Chopra is the CEO of the company making this remake. Can this help his career?
You guys must be wondering the relation between the two, right?
Let us simplify it for you.
First of all, the good news is that Vidya Balan starrer Kahaani, which earned rave reviews along with fantabulous commercial success, will soon be remade in English for Hollywood’s audience.
Isn’t it cool?
Secondly, the movie will be produced by Yash Raj Film’s (YRF) international division, YRF Entertainment which is headed by Uday Chopra! Got the link now?
Yeah, after Uday’s acting career stagnated at the never-ever-began stage, he thought of becoming the CEO of his home-company. It is definitely better than sitting idle at home and spending stupid amount of time tweeting about his on-off romance with Nargis Fakhri!
Now, YRF had purchased the rights of the remake from director Sujoy Ghosh sometime back, but the project got materialized now. It will be directed by Niels Arden Oplev, the same guy who directed ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’ and will be titled as ‘Deity’. The movie’s script is written by Jose Rivera (The Motorcycle Diaries) and Richard Regen (Tehran) and will be about an American woman who comes to Kolkata in search of her missing husband. While looking for him, she gets embroiled in a dangerous situation only to be resolved during Kolkata’s famous colorful Durga Puja festival!
East meets West kind of a situation, if you may call it so; nonetheless, very interesting and gripping!
Everyone is supremely excited with this news and expressing their happiness about an Indian project being made into a Hollywood one, but also missing a point here. For those who don’t know this already, the climax of Kahaani was straightaway lifted from Angelina Jolie starrer, Taking Lives! Yeah, the fake pregnancy, the fake belly was all lifted from there. So in a way, we lifted the climax shamelessly from a Hollywood flick and now going to sell the same recipe with the same climax back to them!!
Whoa, that’s some smartass marketing, isn’t it?
This could very-well turn out to be the pot of gold YRF guys are looking for as far as their Hollywood venture is concerned given the fact that ‘will-I-ever-be-successful’ Uday is heading it. Don’t know how many guys are expecting wonders from him, but then who knows he might spring a surprise. After all, the whole plot and story of Kahaani is kick-ass, if you leave aside the climax, isn’t it? This just might work for western audiences as well.
It will go on floors sometime early next year. Let’s wait and watch for the final verdict of the western audiences on this initiative of our Uday baba!
