The thought of living away from family can be an intimidating one for many individuals. Some of us though see it as a necessary step, as it brings us the much-needed individuality.

Even if we move away from our family, we have the utmost respect for them.

Nevertheless, since we move out of our comfort zone, things do not look up initially, as the constant struggle involves distress, too.

Staying away from family has its fair share of positives and negatives. Below mentioned are a few that you will definitely experience.

Without a shadow of a doubt, your family is the closest motivation to you growing up. When you first move away from the members, there is discontent for obvious reasons, but gradually you begin to enjoy your independence. When you are away from family, you have no one around to question your actions and neither are you answerable to anyone for your misdemeanours.

Once you are away from home, you begin missing home food. Initially, you wander the streets in search of any kind of cuisine that gives you satisfaction. You crave food made at home and end up trying different dishes that your friends have. Ultimately, you realise that home-cooked food can never be replaced.

Living away from your family alone is never a pleasant experience. You can definitely get a roommate to share your expenses and that can bring some form of relief. However, you cannot compare that experience with that of a sibling. A sibling has his or her own place in your life, which can never be replaced.

It could be the case that you had your social life confined while living with your family; this part of your life changes. You begin welcoming your friends over on special occasions or just casually over for beer or playing a game on PlayStation. ‘There is no killing the child inside me’ becomes your main mantra. Moreover, you socialise twice as hard as you did while having your family around at all times.

The number of making and receiving calls increases radically during the initial days, as it is just the beginning phase of living away from your parents and siblings. Moreover, when the relatives learn that you have moved out from your home, you start receiving calls from them, too.

While at home, you find yourself sitting lazily on a chair or the sofa, watching TV, while your mum handles all household chores. However, once you have moved out of your home, you take the job upon yourself. Although, initially they all seem taxing, you eventually get a hold, but never stop appreciating all the helps that have come from your mother.

Financial management is another area that takes a hit. While residing with your family, your parents took care of the electricity and cable bills. But now, since you live alone, you have to keep aside a certain portion of your salary to pay the bills.
