Now it’s become kind of mandatory for all movies to have an item song, latest being Priyanka’s number for Ram Leela. But such over use of the concept ‘item song’ has only made it lose its charm. Let’s take you down the memory lane revisiting those hit chartbuster which still bring out the dancer in you!
Mehbooba Mehbooba – Sholay
Helen was considered the queen of dance numbers, doing everything from Cha Cha Cha to Cabaret to complete Bollywood. While she has many iconic songs to her name, we have picked out this classic number from Sholay that set the trend of item songs.
Tamma Tamma – Thanedar
Madhuri is known for her dance moves and has featured in many iconic songs. But we believe this song truly focused on her dancing skills and the surprise element was definitely Sanjay Dutt. Who knew Munnabhai could dance!
Baby Baby Mujhe Log Bole – Khuddar
The original version had the lyrics ‘Sexy Sexy mujhe log bole’ but since the term ‘sexy’ was a taboo in the 90s, the censor board asked the makers to change it to ‘Baby Baby’. Well, sexy or baby, Karisma looks hot in this song!
Koi Jaaye Toh Le Aaye – Ghatak

Isha Koppikar forayed into Bollywood with this epic dance number from Company and managed to make a name for herself
Babuji Zara Dheere Chalo – Dum
Yana Gupta sizzled in this song and soon the song became popular for more than one reason! The best thing I like about this song that it has joined two versions of the same song, one being your regular song and other a club number. In both versions, Yana rocked it!
Ishq Kameena – Shakti
This was Aishwarya Rai’s first item number on screen for the movie Shakti. Paired with Shahrukh Khan, needless to say the two did a marvelous job
Chhaiyya Chhaiyya – Dil Se
Another SRK song but this time with Malaika Arora Khan. And that too on top of a train! With A R Rehman’s music and Farah Khan’s choreography the song had to be a hit
Seekh Le – Munnabhai M.B.B.S
This song from Munnabhai saw Mumaith Khan flaunt her dance moves to a ‘soon-to-be-dying’ Jimmy Shergill in the movie. Truly can be included in top 10 things to do before you die!
Kajra Re – Bunty Aur Babli
And finally the iconic song Kajra Re from Bunty Aur Babli. With a combination of Aishwarya, Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan the song became the party theme and saw many ape the classic moves.
