Delhi poll: BJP promises lower power rates, cheap vegetable

Reduction in power tariff and vegetable prices tops the list of promises of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of Dec 4 assembly elections in the national capital.

Reduction in power tariff and vegetable prices tops the list of promises of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of Dec 4 assembly elections in the national capital.

The BJP’s election manifesto released Tuesday focuses largely on the price-rise issue, promising 30 percent reduction in power tariffs, controlling prices of onions and tomatoes within 30 days, and increasing the number of subsidised cooking gas cylinders per family from nine to 12.

Full statehood for Delhi, mono-rail, health insurance for all citizens and regularisation of unauthorised colonies are some of the other promises on the manifesto, which was made after incorporating a number of suggestions received from Delhiites online.

“Power tariff is the most important issue in the manifesto. We will give the people freedom from Congress’ bad administration,” Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel said after the manifesto was released.

Trauma centres in all districts, and 25 types of medicines free of cost to every Delhi citizen are other promises being made by the BJP.

The party also pledged to form a Madrassa Board and expand Lal Dora area.

BJP’s chief ministerial candidate Harshvardhan, party leaders Arun Jaitley, Sushma Swaraj, Vijender Gupta, Vijay Malhotra and Vijay Jolly were also present at event where the party manifesto was released.
