Will the fervour of Sachin return?

The Master Blaster, Sachin Tendulkar bid adieu to the world when he played his last Test match at the Wankhede stadium on Saturday.

The Master Blaster, Sachin Tendulkar bid adieu to the world when he played his last Test match at the Wankhede stadium on Saturday. He cut an emotional figure as a teary eyed Sachin finally said ‘goodbye’ to cricket once and for all. But the Mumbai crowd didn’t stop there as the chants of ‘Sachin Sachin’ went on and on. As we bid him goodbye, the question that baffles us is, will the fervour of Sachin enigma return? If it does, who could carry such expectations and fulfill them?

The emergence of Indian Cricket has seen many top names take the threshold of super-stardom. In contrast, in those days when only Sachin was the face of Indian cricket at home and abroad, today we see the likes of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, who have left us spell bound with their mastery on the field and panache off it. Talking of this, we must not forget skipper MS Dhoni for l the team through every situation.

When Sachin would came to bat, it evoked a sense of passion. If he got out, the televisions across the country were switched off. The man carried the burden of national expectation for 24 years and gave his best in every game. Alas, as he has left, some might even leave the thought of watching cricket again! Or won’t they?

To these ‘hardcore’ fans, let me remind you my friends, that no individual is bigger than the game. As former England skipper rightly said in his column, “Even though Sachin was termed as God, he worshipped cricket as his religion.”
