Tragedy struck the world of cricket when Australia batsman Phil Hughes was hit by a bouncer off a Sean Abbott delivery that struck the former’s head.
Even though Hughes, who was wearing a batting helmet, was in discomfort at the time of short-pitch delivery and then fell forward to the ground.
At point blank, Hughes was treated and ventilated on the field by doctors and medics before being to a hospital.
Hughes has been announced critical and has undergone a surgery for the same.
The 25-year-old, who played for New South Wales before moving to South Australia last season, was in contention to play the first test against India next week if injured skipper Michael Clarke was ruled out.
Hughes was batting on 63 when he was hit on the back, left side of the head by a bouncer from New South Wales fast bowler Sean Abbott.
Hughes has played 26 Test matches for Australia since his debut in 2009 but hasn’t been able to cement a regular spot in the starting side.
